Mural doesn't mean art. A memorial, sure, but just that.

In case no one has noticed, both the brick facing and the rest of the construction of Avalon Myrtle halted 2 weeks ago at 32nd floor. Any lowdown on this? Meanwhile Catsimatidis is showing progress and is well into the sixth story of his mixed-use bldg on Ashland/Myrtle.

In the past in Little Italy, the lines doubled for hanging lighted decorations, which came in handy during the San Genaro festivities. In Bangkok and a few other Asian cities incl New Delhi, they double for clothes lines even if it's illegal to do so. But so far no one has been known to have been fried, except for one kite flyer.

I believe most artists in Bushwick call it East Williamsburg, but people in Philly think they're one and the same.

There are growing concerns that arson is on the rise because of the swan diving economy. Insurance agents are busier than ever in reviewing authentic and false claims.

Soho will be prime for a long time unless it's decimated by a nuclear bomb. Only then it goes back to the pre-70s cheap cast iron spaces where artist and galleries took shops. As it is, a wholesale economic $$$ collapse, if it happens, will be that bomb. And you can move in.

Remodelista really does great work. But we'd like to see Francesca's white kitchen one more time. Why she freaked out doesn't matter. Alas, this oughtta be a nice appeasement gesture after yesterday's mystery.

Theory, and my conjecture only: B'stoner hoped that featuring the BH kitchen would drum up some ad business. Doesn't Remodelista already have a banner on this site? Owner Francesca's privacy is at issue here. I'd prob feel the same. So be careful what you wish for.

Posted by: cb6 at January 28, 2009 12:46 PM in response to Open Thread

Yes, what happened to my favorite kitchen? Mr. B's getting slapped with a cease and desist?

My supposedly previous post:
"Well, there you go RAR/Remodelista! Great attention and conversation today for your outfit - very clever. Scrolling down your website one can see that Francesca's house is beautiful and regardless of what everyone says, if you're a designer and does a great job, the attention is well deserved. Awesome. Congrats!"

CH is Switzerland compared with BH and CG. Nice, quiet and bland. Found a nice place on Clinton St years ago, but decided on Carrol Gardens instead for its access to most things incl the Cobble Hill theater and bistros.

A little creativity and tasteful design always go a long way to make a building look less than dreck. Novo could've been a novelty on 4th Ave at the same cost. And drab it is.

New York's coming back to its senses again. Why is/are graffiti equated with "worse"? Only the up(their a--)tight class see it this way. Graffiti reflects the realities, the zeitgeist, and at times the hypocrisy of a culture; made NY world famous and even brought in business after the white flight.

I prefer the old design. But the reactive nimbys will finally get what they wished for. A retrograde coliseum that will look like the old Columbus Circle desired only by philistines.

If it's an 8 story mixed building, they'd posted the beams only for a street level business like it used to be. Unless, the crane and the steel haven't arrived, only several men are working on site. It's been like this for a month.

How about them MTA workers: I witnessed this cleaner pour a gal of clorox bleach on the "Q" platform on 34th St station in front of everyone, my train doors open, the fume was toxic and I got teary eyes! Then he walked away and didn't come back. Wtf, guess they hire real professionals at MTA.

Pull it out to see what's underneath - whether glued directly or padded and how thick. Doesn't look nailed on a subfloor, more like glued gone bad. The thickness of the wood will tell you if it's engineered, laminate or real hardwood. If floating, there was not enough room to contract (1/4 of an inch off the wall) on all seasons. Padding is moisture barrier for floating, w/out it, any flooring will eventually buckle bec concrete absorbs moisture, and the woody doesn't like it.
