Rental Furniture ?

Have friends that are immigrating to the NY area. They have taken on a rental apt. but need to furnish it, temporarily. Their stuff arrives in the US in about two months. Any ideas for rental places or other solutions.

Thanks.

Caulking Question

I've just sanded the gloss off my bathroom walls - couldn't help it bought a Ridgid orbit sander and fell in love - I've also removed most of the old caulk. I'm ready to paint and re-caulk. Question. Which comes first.

Thanks.

The walls were rough and bumpy which is why I went the sanding route - it's a really tiny space, wore a mask - wasn't that bad. Went with Zinser water based primer to avoid the fumes of oil based, also meant I wanted to prep really well. Will cover with Benjamin Moore Aura.

I bought Polyseamseal Tub & Tile Adhesive Caulk - water based latex with mildewcide. Says it's paintable - so I'll apply it before painting. Thanks very much for your help.

Makes a great deal of sense - I definitely want to avoid peeling paint so you've given me serious food for thought - haven't opened my can of primer yet - might take it back and exchange for it for oil. Thanks again.

any preference for the finish on the top coat - eggshell? satin?
want to avoid high gloss - place gets pretty moist - do have a small window - thanks for the tip.

If it is in fact real Linoleum...from Armstrong:

floor care: http://www.armstrong.com/resflram/na/linoleum/en/us/fc_list.asp

maintenance: http://www.armstrong.com/resflram/na/linoleum/en/us/article18262.html

I have not tried these myself yet, but intend doing so - have a a kitchen floor project in my near future.

duh! thanks for your piercing insight 5.48am. Perhaps if you learnt to read you would understand I was asking about furniture rental recommendations as per the heading.

Of course one can also find such online also, but it's always good to hear from those with personal experience in using any of the rental services. Family is moving to Brooklyn btw.

Generally, I've always been taught that glossy paint (which I don't like, either) is stronger, more durable, and more washable than flat finish, especially when you're doing a bathroom. Satin is somewhere in between.

I have to agree with the minority here -- you might be thinking this floor is a treasure just because you found it in YOUR house. If you walked into an open house and saw this stuff, you'd be calculating the cost to rip it out and replace it so you could reduce your offer by at least that much... if you didn't just turn around and walk away altogether.

Leave it to the newbie old house owners to be all about new-new-new. They never lived in an old house before they buy their brownstone and turn up their nose at anything that's not new and perfect.

Old things have a "patina". It's a certain aesthetic many people, especially artists and writers, embrace. That patina is called "dirty" by certain people, but frankly I've always found those kinds of people really very boring. OP, it's your house and if you want to have a touch of original details in YOUR house, go for it. It's also genuinely ecological to keep this material and restore it. As opposed to phony limo-liberal version of ecological like ripping out everything, throwing the debris in a landfill then installing cork floors and calling it "green" building.

i agree, you should shine this sh*t to perfection and love it. don't put down some new hideous pergo and start bleaching all your floors so when you start popping out little kiddies you can breed super germs like all the other super moms out there.

keep the floors! they're great.

Take a look at IKEA - website or store. They have apartment sized kitchens with private label appliances some of which are small.

If it is cut badly you will be unhappy.
Try to get a refund and buy a more suitable faucet.

The selection of faucets is enormous.

Custom work like that will be prohibitively expensive as compared to the price of a new faucet.

Still, George Taylor Specialties is your best bet.
