I've eaten here 1/2 a dozen times and it was always average, if that. I'd recommend India House on Court St. for a better experience. There's a nice vibe but the food just doesn't back it up.

I had one decent meal there, but base my review on my iffy feelings on French cuisine, not this specific spot. The ambiance is fantastic and sitting in the garden during the summer is an added plus. The prices were a little high for me but in line with other nabe restaurants of its level.

Great food, central locale, and the cheesy decor somehow adds to the charm. This place has been around for decades, which is a testament to the service and the food. Love it here.

Just ordered from Rooster. Immediate service for an early Friday night (about 10 min to deliver from phone call). I recommend the garlic & herb chicken. Nicely spiced (so was the corn on the cob, a pleasant surprise). That was a highlight. I always set myself up by ordering everyone's mac&cheese...it was ok. But really, I have no complaints. They seemed to have a million sides! Thanks for the rec, now I have someone besides Bistro Lafayette to bug.

Yes, this was Cafe? Restaurant? Orleans before. Keur N' Deye was a few doors to the left. I also couldn't figure Orleans out & had never eaten there, though I'd heard some mixed reviews about the food and service. I think an Ethiopian restaurant can and will do well here. Can't wait till it's open!

I liked this place, mostly for the proximity and price. I actualy had an Italian dish (lasagna? some kind of parm?) and remember having enough to take home. The staff was likable and not overbearing--a great combo. The wine selection wasn't great, but I wasn't expecting much on that end so my I think expectations were reasonable. A good, solid meal at a decent price. And what I always like to find, a boisterous room of happy, chatty patrons. I plan to go back for a weekend brunch.

I heard this happened at around 1pm by a friend who took shelter in Not Rays. Started in car--shooting into the barber shop. Shooting returned out of shop and into street. At least one passerby shot; an elderly man. Secondhand but reliable info. My friend believes 5 people were shot, 1 was killed. Broad daylight, lunchtime. Street still cordoned off when I was on bus a few minutes ago.

Silver Spoon closed for reno, or for the season, I wonder? Their timing was a little off for a frozen yogurt spot (didn't they open in September?).

rehab, Tillie's (sp?) is under new management and has been for about eight months. It also has a new layout.

I was *just* discussing the merits of fake chicken with a coworker. I'm definitely a meat eater, and really miss Buttercup--the restaurant at this location before RB--but in a pinch, I can down the fake wings with a cocktail without much trouble.

That's unfortunate. I like a good chicken patty from Golden Krust. I guess when you live an urban life, you put these things to the back of your mind. Until they're magnified and posted on one of your daily blogs...

On a related note, a friend saw a mouse scurrying through Target a few weeks ago...

Speaking of the "new" Tilly's, does anyone know if Tilly's widower retired? I like the new set-up & choices, but the prices that come with those definitely pinch.

Thanks for flower shop recs! I agree, a bookstore would also be a cool touch. Just to add to Cellars discussion, I saw some construction signs in the Cellars II windows but could've sworn original Cellars was still open (anyone go there when they served free buffet with drinks?). I think there was a death within the family within the year...not sure if that's connected with closing?

I vote for a flower shop. This is also my vote for Fort Greene and Bed-Stuy properties as well, if anyone's paying attention. Deli curb selections are great if you're on the run but sometimes you need something dressier.

Interesting question, A Guest. Are Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights stoop drinkers being ticketed as well (and as frequently)? Wondering...

I've eaten here and really enjoyed it. Pleasant waitstaff, good, spicy food. Sorry to hear they got rid of the glass jars--that was a neat draw. Glad they're maintaining during this economy. I'll have to gather some pennies and try to get there more often.

I'm always down to try someplace new... Glad to hear of new spots opening (if nothing else, we need more choices)!

Meh... I've had iffy service there. Maybe I caught the cashier girl on a bad day. Place was semi-busy but there was definitely a lack of ambience and I felt rushed to make a selection. I'd rather go to Aida's.

I've actually seen this happen on Clinton Avenue (btwn DeKalb and Lafayette) as well. Also an older black woman, although I couldn't tell if she was disabled or challenged. I was stunned particularly as it was around 9 a.m. on a Saturday morning. She opened someone's gate and squatted among the grass and flowers. A jogger went by and did a double-take (as did I). This was around 2005 or so.
