Also had the sewer main replaced. Not a pleasant job. Used Alex Figliolia, Inc, Cost about 13K. Used a video camera, very professional and responsive, and very good follow up

Over the past 18 years, I have had to replace water main and my sewer main, both times I used Alex Figliolia. Forget about his personal history, he did his time. The company was extremely professional and honorable, and I cannot praise the work enough.

6%?? That can always be negotiated, especially for higher end properties. Btw, in Queens, it is 3%, and in other places, i.e. New Jersey, it is also 3%.

once a lit lawyer takes the case
s/he is at least ensured of either
winning or losing.
IOW you arent in 4 different courts fighting the same case with 4 seperate law firms, and deciding which firm to accept based on the outcomes.
which is exactly what happens to brokers.
offers get tendered declined renegotiated accepted, but
wait never mind we found something else...thru someone else...
but thanks for your time !
that's just the way it goes.....

We had a water leak on our street that DEP couldn't locate. So they began randomly writing 72-hour shut-offs to houses on the block. At least five houses replaced their mains before they found they guilty party (my immediate neighbor).
These are all identical houses but the prices were all over the map: from $1800 to $5000 for the same job. Moral of the story: shop around.

just stay away from harris water main. They had a bad contract, lied about the work, and in the end I ended up paying for most of the work (3/4) and the main did not need to be changed. Just really uderstand the contract that you sign, and also check DEP when your main was installed.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I guess I won't really know how much of the line needs replacing until I get the video inspection.
When scheduling a video inspection, do you usually use the company that will be doing the excavation work? And how much does it usually cost?

We had a broken line (original ceramic pipe!) under a brick walk we'd laid in our horse's walk, and Harris Water Main & Sewer were fantastic (718-495-3600). They got the permits, managed to tunnel to the spot to do the repair from there to the street without damaging the walk, and had the sidewalk repaired the next day--all included in the price. They even arranged to have the sidewalk guy match the tint in the pavement in the new sidewalk we'd laid within the previous year! I've heard nightmare stories, so these guys are the peace of mind guys.

I used Alex Figliolia several years ago to replace the main sewer. He came (in a chauffered stretch MB) wihin an hour, followed up with an estimate, and started the next day. They were expensive, but very much worth it. Extremely professional, the quality of the work excellent. I had to use them again, 2 years later, to replace the water main, and had the same positive exeperience.
