where to find old photos of your house?

Hi,
Is there a resource in the city for finding old exterior photos of your home? We are buying a house that has been altered and would like to know how it looked before the changes a previous owner made. Any ideas?

This marble is disgusting. Is this Tony Soprano's house?

Agree with others who say your lawyer should be pressing harder, and that you should ask him/her to give them a deadline. You don't have to be nasty, just give them a date. Good luck!

If you do NOT want a house that needs work, don't buy. If you are willing to put in the time and money to give the place some TLC, use it to negotiate a lower price (unless the place is already priced appropriately for a house that needs work) and plan on making it your own! Good luck.

Agree you should take them down before showing, the buyers won't be disappointed if they don't know they exist...

My husband and I were really tempted to sell our place ourselves - we live on a highly desirable block in a great building and we knew it would go fast. But we learned it was totally worth it to hire a broker, she was able to create a feeding frenzy for our place that we never would have been able to - we definitely would have ended up taking a lower offer had she not been there to help. Also people can be weirdos, and our bidders and their brokers were no exception. I won't go into details, but let's say we were really happy not to have to deal with them ourselves. Just some food for thought!

You might want to head over to habitatmag.com and check out their message boards, "Board Talk". Lots of good advice on co-op management and legal issues.

Hi,

Yes condos may be easier but one thing I learned about new construction condos a few years back - we had 10% to put down, and couldn't get a mortage because the building was not 50% sold yet and banks would not take the risk. Keep in mind this was back in '03 when the banks were lending money to anyone. Of course by the time the building was 50% sold so was our dream unit and we didn't like the remaining inventory. Just something to keep in mind if you are looking at new construction condos.

I'm about to move out of a 5 unit co-op, and we have hired a part time maint. guy to take care of cleaning and garbage etc. but I don't know that I'd do it again. With so few owners, serving on the board and/or being very involved is almost mandatory. If you want to live in a very small building, you won't have the luxury of just paying maintenance and not worrying about the building at all. Personally, I'm excited to be leaving and not having to talk to my neighbors all the time about when we should paint the hallways and such. As long as you know what you're getting into, it can be a positive experience.

I went to the open house. The place is quite spacious inside and everything is new, but there's no charm and no high end details that I'd expect from a house in this price range. Yes the bathrooms are small and unattractive. Not much of a master suite. Backyard is almost nonexistent due to garage. I just bought a house on the same block as this one so I hope they do get a good price, but in my opinion it's not really worth what they are asking.
And as a new Rugby Road resident, a new French restaurant DOES matter :)

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I've actually found some useful information after posting this question.

Yeah, Newswalk is tangled up in the AY thing (and I'm doing plenty of research and consideration regarding that), but I was more concerned with learning about the problems/conditions in the actual Newswalk building/apts. Finding info about the AY project is fairly easy, but learing about this building has been slightly more difficult...

Thanks
:)

I recently sold my house (a primary residence) after my wife passed, that was earlier in the year transferred to a trust on the advice of a lawyer as my wife was gravely ill, to protect it against medi-cal costs for her long term care. Now, speaking with a cpa, I've discovered I no longer qualify for the 500k deduction, much less 250k (for just myself), since the house belonged to a trust. The cap gains were a little under 500K, and I thought I wouldn't even have to report it on Sched D, much less pay anything.

My question is, what is the level of risk if I go ahead and not report it, assuming I would still qualify for the 500K exclusion? Would it be better to just go ahead and pay for 250K cap gain (as single)? It was not in a trust for much more than a year, and my wife had passed the year before.

"Hey guys the sexist remarks are getting boring!"

Sorry Ysabelle but I am finding them very amusing...It is a little sad for the OP IF this is actually a real post. But I think the sophomoric comments are to be just as expected as the comments I would get If I went to WebMD seeking advice on what materials I should use on my roof deck.

Lighten up - its a blog on the internet, not a waiting room for an STD clinic.

This is totally annoying why don't people take this kind of stuff seriously? This woman is new to brooklyn, but has lived in NY for 21 years, and is really sick and she's on a chat room begging for some strangers to tell her what doctor to go to for a very personal lady problem-- and she's feeling poopie because of the deli meat-- what's funny about that?

If this were a house problem, we'd all be arguing about diagnosing it, but since it's a OBGYN problem, we're all just making jokes. Not cool.

OK- What exactly is the problem? What were the drugs that you were prescribed, what neighborhood do you live in, do you rent or own, and what deli meat was that?

I know a midget witch doctor gynecologist who might be able to help you,,,

,,,,a little.

get it?

Ysabelle, why bother going to the gynecologist your thing doesn't get any use anyway.

Posted by: guest at June 7, 2008 1:43 AM in response to Need a good internist/gynecologist

Natalieroc, try the psych meds, I think if you work on your mental problems, the stomach ones may go away. Also what kind of deli meat were you eating Kilbasa?
