Need Termite Exterminator Rec
We have just discovered a termite swarm in our house in the floorboards and are in search of a recommendation for a good exterminator based in Brooklyn.
Has anyone had a good experience with a company? Thanks.

ISO Flooring Contractor for Parquet Floor Repair
We returned from vacation to find that a rather large leak had damaged a significant portion of the parquet floor in our living room.
Does anyone have recommendations for flooring contractors who repair parquet?
Thanks

Brownstone smells
Our family lives in a garden and parlor level duplex. I am pregnant and much more sensitive to smells than before. I've started noticing musty/moldy/mildew-y smells on the garden level. I experience so strongly that it sends me running to the bathroom and now I can't sleep in our bedroom. Of course, my husband doesn't notice anything and thinks I'm insane. Has anyone else experienced this and have any suggestions for addressing the problem? It's going to drive me to my wit's end that I can't track down what's causing the smell. It's seems to be coming from inside the walls (and it's not a dead rodent). Help!

The coffee is great but I was disappointed by the pastry. If your business is about selling coffee and pastries, shouldn't they both be good quality?

It's true, between speeding and running red lights, the cops just look the other way. I was crossing the street last week and a car plowed through a red light. A cop was standing right there, too busy reading a magazine to notice, while a bunch of us pedestrians yelled at the driver.

Zinka, if indeed the speed bumps were meant for Berkeley Place, what was the rationale for ordering them? Lincoln between 5th and 6th has them, but there's a school there...
I agree that the bumps are mixed blessing (people do speed up the street, but people speed everywhere), but how can they allow those signs on a side street in a designated historic district?

There are only two-speed bumps, but yes, 8 hideous signs!

We have Sprint and have no problems with reception - lower duplex of a brownstone.

Wow, this is my dream house! I love the kitchen corner window.
Paul Cha needs better photographs of the project on his website. They just don't do it justice.

12:38 - You and many others, including the media, completely misunderstood Beyer Blinder Belle's master plan proposal (meant to be massing models and not designs) for the WTC site. Do us a favor and educate yourself before misguiding others.

I went to the Berkeley Place open house and did not think that the house was in tip-top shape. The kitchen was tiny - one of those extension kitchens, but only half the width of the house. But maybe it was the decor/jumble of furniture that made it seem like it needed more work than it really does. The original woodwork and stained glass were certainly beautiful.

As much as I hate the thought, it probably will go for the asking price. When someone's got that much money to spend on a house, do they really agonize over a couple hundred thousand?

Thanks for everyone's comments -- I am definitely looking forward to having my normal, not-so-acute sense of smell back. In the meantime, thanks for the suggestions. The garden level was completely re-done by my husband about 8 years ago, and I hope (and trust) that he resolved any mold/rot issues before sealing up the walls.

I've walked by recently and think it looks quite nice. Though the materials and look are modern, it doesn't clash with the neighboring building.
They did a great job.

Is this news? I'm tired of reading all these insipid articles about Park Slope. Maybe the Times should hire reporters who live in other neighborhoods so that we can get some real stories.
Though this article is completely obnoxious, as a coop member, I do question the logic of maintaining the same work requirements when number of members has soared. It's absolute mayhem in the office and no one knows what they're doing because there's too many people to train.
