"401 k contributions r taken out of your pay check before taxes" CG that's the whole point and that's actually a good thing--unless u enjoy paying taxes. Saving and investing your money tax free is the same as receiving after tax income every 2 weeks ? Really ? Why r 401 k plans so popular? Financial hardship might be what one encounters when you're 59 and relying on a broke gov't

Why would u opt out of 401K...it's free money...u don't have to buy equities...u can short them(SDS)...u can buy gold...u can buy a money mkt fund....it's tax free money 'til Congress takes it away.....Slopefarm turn off the lights the party's over....1st stop SPX 920...the forecast calls for PAIN....lots of it

statement's not ridiculous...people who own rather than rent have more vested in neighborhood.....building's that r owner occupied are better maintained than those that r subsidized....concept really isn't that hard to get a hold of....Larrry Summers himself once said that no one washes a rented car...

...."noise from the bqe is the bane of bklyn heights" really? r u looking at a map of bklyn heights or have u spent any time in bklyn heights?? if there's a "bane" to the Heights it's car and pedestrian traffic related to courts Monday thru Fri...Clinton St is clogged. BQE becomes a factor on Hicks St in Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens..the noise in this area is secondary to all the Staten Island/secondary traffic that blows thru at 40-50 mph....BQE noise in my humble opinion is only really an issue in DUMBO where there r no barriers to noise or exhaust fumes...i've lived in area 14 yrs...BQE noise is barely noticeable in Heights even standing in middle of Promenade..

Bxgrl,

liberals don't even call themselves liberal anymore. Feminists were more frightened of Sarah Palin than Al Qaeda. Why do all women have to think alike ? Everybody relax. The Democrats won didn't they ?? Why does MSNBC and media have such a hard on for Rush Limbaugh? you control both houses of Congress and the Presidency. Pass whatever the f*ck u want already......Quit moanin'....

Carroll Gardens + Gowanus on fire....gotta be COUGAR related

Posted by: bklyn14 at September 8, 2009 12:39 PM in response to Last Week's Biggest Sales

Deck + WBF + Garden pl = 700......i've often felt that apart from 2-3 streets, bklyn heights is way, way over rated rel to park slope-cobble hill-carroll gardens. i spend a lot of time between Dumbo and Red Hook....6 days a week bklyn heights is extremely congested..a lot of court traffic and employees and a zillion people who don't live in neighborhood or r free loaders(rent controlled, elderly u know who u r) HOWEVER GARDEN PL-SINEY-No heights fruit streets...these r 4 stars and deserve a premium..they're quiet streets that r real easy on the eye 12 months a yr..these streets aren't this week's flavor of the month...they aren't up and coming....these have been some of nicest streets in city for a 150 yrs...this apt is for a single person/couple..compare what's offered in 700's in manhattan vs Garden Pl....700's not a stretch

Splenda,

i'm up to about 8 months now with Wells...they don't respond to e mails, leave dozens of messages with this numb nuts in minneapolis....what's amazing is that when u move on to another broker u have to formally withdraw application from another bank...it's really not hard to see how these pricks lost so much $....no due diligence when mkt is screaming...now they're all being hard as$es when mkt's on way down....Collateral? Credit ? the only thing these mothers understand r FEES

i love red hook...ride bike there all the time...i follow real estate closely and am continually blown away by Red Hook...it has fared much better than Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill or Bklyn Heights over last 18-24 months...it's definitely not kid friendly, a little out of the way and i i believe prices build in way too much "potential"...however very few people anticipated that Ikea would be a net + for area.....it's more interesting than a lot of neighborhoods in borough but i think quantity of broken glass and pit bulls might be a turn off for people with kids.......

I got a good one. Large branch falls from tree in CG partially obstructing traffic. NYFD comes and blocks off street. 5-6 fireman remove branch from tree and begin cutting it up. Homeowner exits home in front of fallen tree with child in stroller. Homeowner returns 20 min later and tree is chopped up. Fireman gone. Truck gone. Homeowner's bicycle which is chained to wrought iron stairs is stolen by someone with bolt cutters. I've chained bike to my stairs for 4 yrs. I have jr high kids walking by house 9 months a yr. Never had a problem. School has been out 2 weeks. Several people on street have bikes chained to fences on same street without any problems yet when the Happy Hookers show up i lose a bike. Coincidence??

love the sequence of above blogs.....is it really true to quality of house to quality of neighborhood to renovate or not to renovate to whether or not MB is gay>> i mean come on what's there to argue about? It's a nice house...they probably got an awesome deal...they're probably more time sensitive than price sensitive(they have kids and they're rich)...who gives a sh!t if they gut it..
(they're probably not giving me an invite to check it out anyway) BUT it sure makes recent sales/avg home price sales look great at Corcoran(and for egos of all bklynites esp homeowners)...also why does someone find it so f*cking "cool" to be seen with your kid(Steve Bushemi)....i've been with 2 kids for over 12 i'm not looking for a medal..and i also have it from a decent source that MB plays for BOTH teams...

perhaps do u live in CG ? it's a 4 block walk...do u need assisted care ?? If not sit in back of F train..when u get to Carroll St get off...walk 2 blocks to Henry...take a right on Henry and walk 2 blocks to Degraw....that ain't so FAR...BIG BIG DISADVANTAGE....(i need your problems)

I never considered myself a die hard member of team bull or team bear...i try to be somewhat objective...despite equities rallying i'm not feeling the over-all CNBC/Obama induced love that the general population feels towards the economy or SPX or even real estate....but i gotta ask...why r u such an incredible asshole ?? why r u so fucking miserable?? why don't u just rent? or short banks? or short real estate? or jump off the bklyn bridge? --THE WHAAAAAT...SOMEDAY I"M GONNA GET A LIFE !!!!! jagoff

McKenzie, i hear u...i lived on corner of Clark/Columbia for 2 summers..the immediate neighborhood would love to see fireworks moved to West Side or Jersey.....most Promenade folks aren't real big on outsiders(especially Manhattanites) occupying area for 8-10 hrs, pissing on sidewalks, public drinking. loud obnoxious bastards...the following 2 days streets r filled w/ garbage and it's usually about 85 degrees..............

i saw the gowanus/CG house about 2 months ago...i live about 4 blocks away and wanted to know what mkt looked like...it was listed at $1.45 then and i believe that price was reduced from a few months earlier...there's an incredibly awkward addition already on house that results in a foot or so difference on the first floor...u enter thru basement...the place is small with a lot of dead hallway space...there was 1 tenant on top floor-she couldn't be paying more than $1,500.....the addition looked awful....across the street is a stop and go condo project that the Corcoran rep conceded wasn't too popular w/ some of the immediate locals...i too am shocked that this place traded at $1.45 but i've said it before in this price range(maybe $1.2 to $1.8) u could probably look at 50,000 co op/condos in Manhattan or maybe 15-25 houses between atlantic ave and huntington....between hicks and 4th ave...go on line, buy the sunday nyt, hit a few realtors up or better yet ride a bike around here....THERE'S NOT A LOT OF HOUSES ON MKT AROUND HERE

The Layout is unusual...not awful...look at drawings...partitions can easilly break the large openings between 2 rooms...the maintenance is brutal in this environment but the location and condition of place will sell to someone....u gotta remember u r selling to 1 person not 135 people on Brownstoner...it's not "standard" fare but it will get foot traffic and someone will pay near ask(if u want to call buyer an idiot fine but try peddling a conventionally laid out 1300 sf pad anywhere else in borough...go to 7-8 open houses on a Sat...7-8 open houses on a Sun and u will remeber 2-3 places tops....this will be 1 of 'em.) ......$899,999

McKenzie,

i'm neither 17 nor an aging hippie...most people who desire full service amenities tend to live in manhattan not bklyn though some people like feel differently. no problem.. why don't u just buy the place, make a sh!t load of $ and enjoy your clogged drains, broken phones, sticky windows, slow toilets, appliance, furniture and cable guys....no one's stopping u.....sounds pretty delicious....

i hear u. the lucky buyer gets to drop 180K and spend $5,600/mo for 30 yrs...assuming maintenance never goes up and nothing unexpected ever happens. The owner gets an intermedary to announce friends and tell u when the pizza arrives. i always thought people who got off on "full service buildings" were the same people who enjoy dormitories, student gov't and co op board meetings ....but that's just me
