mmm...bowl of tots.
In other news, it looks like a pub might be opening on Henry near Atlantic in the old TV repair shop.

Very unimpressive. I wanted to like it, but my pasta dish was drowning in a heavy sauce. I recall the husband liking the steak (?) but it was not worth the price. We haven't been back.
The ambience is very inviting, though!

I've been there a few times. I would love to love it, but it's hard. Food is decent, beer selection is better than most bars, but I wasn't impressed by the service. They have deep fried pickles -- an excellent concept that they poorly executed.

We've been ordering pizza and rolls from Francesco's (and its former iteration, Nino's) since we moved to the neighborhood 5 years ago. Sadly, the pizza isn't very consistent, but much better than Sam's on Court. I recall the pizza being better when the restaurant was Nino's, but they do deliver fairly quickly. Haven't had their pasta dishes in a while, so I will refrain from commenting on those dishes.

After trying both Calexico and Oaxaco last week, my verdict is that Calexico (at least for the vegetarian tacos) was superior. Oaxaco was excellent, but I thought that Calexico's bean tacos had a better balance of flavors. I feel very lucky to live between these two places. Buddy's was always a nice (cheap) treat. the food there isn't bad, but it's definitely more of the "fast food" variety.
I agree about the Chickory space. I've been in the neighborhood for 5 years and for the majority of that time, the space has been closed.
A wing joint with a vegetarian option? Awesome!

I love the Court St location. The appetizers are wonderful, and hubby loves the chicken bastilla (sp?). I've only dined in, but have been quite satisfied with the food and service. And I always leave stuffed. Seeing this post makes me want to go there tonight.
The Snack Shop sign is horrendous. As for Calpurnia, could they serve free wine if they don't have a liquour license? One of the blogs was reporting yesterday that they are still waiting for their liquor license.

If homeowners are seeing a reduction in their mortgage rates, I want my federal loan interest rates reduced. Right now, they are nearly twice the interest rates on my private loans.

I have always enjoyed the beer here, but it's unfortunate that there is so little bar space. Frankly, I feel that they should move away from having a restaurant space; it is just too tight in there. They do have the best French Onion Soup, but much of their menu is a bit of a rip off. Wait staff can be iffy, except for Mary behind the bar -- she is fantastic. And, as others have said, the popcorn is like crack. Overall, a great bar, but be prepared to wait for some of the "regulars" to give up their space at the bar and be ready to put down a lot of $$.
I might "buy" it.

I first visited Downtown when it first opened a few years ago. Then, it seemed like a cheaper, more accessible version of Waterfront. Plenty of TVs, great draft selection and a varied menu. I loved the goat cheese sandwich the first few times I ordered it. However, I did notice that the prices increased rather dramatically in its first few months of business, and my goat cheese sandwich disappeared from the menu. However, a goat cheese salad remained, which, according to the menu description, was a mere variation of the sandwich; instead of a bun, it was served on top of lettuce. I asked the bartender if I could order the goat cheese sandwich off the menu in light of the fact it's carb-deprived cousin was still on the menu. The bartender refused, and I opted for a soggy portobello burger. By that time, the service really dropped and prices skyrocketed. A year or so after that incident, I asked someone on the waitstaff if it would be possible to order the goat cheese sandwich, and was again refused - and rather rudely. I told them that their failure to at least address my request in a friendly manner lost them a customer. I have never been back, and I take some solace in knowing that my fellow Brooklynites have had terrible experiences as well.

Based upon the reviews, I decided to check this place out. I was very disappointed. First, the service was terrible. It was not terribly crowded in the seating area by the bar, yet my spouse and I waited nearly 5 minutes to be seated. Although the wait staff saw us obviously waiting to be seated, we were not approached. When we were finally seated, it took a long time to place our order of 2 beers, the veggie baguette and the steak sandwich. Beers took much too long to come out. The food, however, did look appetizing when it arrived. My husband enjoyed his steak sandwich. My veggie baguette started out promising, but it tasted increasingly greasy as I continued to eat. I suspect that the overly-greasy and flavorless fries were leaching into my sandwich. We were never asked about our meal, and the staff failed to be even moderately courteous. We will not be back.

I guess I'm going to be the lone hater here. I think it's a fantastic display BEFORE these little pumpkins start to rot. Year after year, once they start to rot (atrophy is too nice of a word), I have to avoid the house on my way home from the subway. It never dawned on me that this was an art project; in fact, the first year I saw this, I wondered if the owner had died, leaving no one to clean up the nasty mess.
