Loud exhaust fan
Can someone pls point me in right direction (links, etc.?)
My bldg just installed some sort of bathroom exhaust fan on the roof. I am on the top floor. Now I can feel subtle vibrations while standing in my bathroom and the noise from the fan/motor is so loud that I can hear it even when I have the bathroom door closed.
I was asked to get used to the noise bc there was nothing they could do about its loudness.
thanks in advance.

Yes there is a code, it was updated in July. This is exactly the kind of noise the city addresses, more than neighbor noise and stuff.
You will have to pay for your own noise measurement though. Which can cost $1,000 to $1,500. A noise expert will write up a report and will say if the noise is above the city limits.
We used Al Fierstein ourselves. He's very nice:

"Now I can feel subtle vibrations."
I'm so juvenile.

btw, there is indeed a way to fix this. They could have hired an acoustical consultant and specified the correct fan for the shaft. The motor running the fan should also be mounted on vibration isolators. They obviously have not done that, or have done it incorrectly.

OP here: I forgot: I am trying to find out if there is a code that states the acceptable loudness level for this type of situation.
