Door Replacement for Modern Building

We need to replace the double front doors on our small multi-unit building because of security issues. The building has a modern brick-and-glass look to its front, and we're looking to replace the current version (think cheap patio doors) with something more heavy duty. We'd like to use thick security glass or a wood and glass combination that could work with a magnetic security closure that can interface with our existing buzzer system.

Can anyone help with leads on vendors or contractors that could get us started? Thanks!

Mopar -- describing Monterey and Pacific Grove as "ordinary and uninteresting looking" is way way off the mark... When was the last time you were near Washington Park? Pacific Grove especially is full of historically relevant architecture.

The historic flavor and charm you cite about Carmel-by-the-Sea comes at a price -- maintenance on those houses is astronomically expensive despite their small size. Ramshackle is hardly affordable!

Plus, it's hard to imagine a more strict set of environmental regulations than Carmel's tree regulations. This level of sacrifice-for-way-of-life could never happen here...

Non-biker, non-driver purposely remaining agnostic on the age-old struggle of wheeled vehicles for asphalt space, but hot diggity I'm happy there's a chance that bikes will get off the PPW sidewalk.

I definitely see good reason for the NIMBY backlash from the regular posters, but surely you guys haven't forgotten about pre-gent Red Hook -- overwhelmingly minority, probably accounting for 99% of the 40% asthma rate, and certainly didn't "choose" to live there. There are already two cement factories (that I pass by -- there may be others) running full tilt, and the link between cement dust and chronic respiratory disease is rock solid.

Oh my burger god so burger good. Burger. Definitely a contender for best in Brooklyn -- yes it's that good. Burgers aside, the Dram Shop is a good place to grab a quick bite when not crowded. Good beer selection. Friendly bartenders.

Excellent combination: late night dining, eating at the bar with excellent bartenders, best fried chicken in Brooklyn, oysters, cocktail-o-rama. Brunch menu rocks. Agree with the volume issue inside, but heck, if that's the only issue to have, I can live with that.

Since the management change, the Belleville has been heading up. Much more attentive experience and friendly atmosphere than its predecessor. Chef is better and more consistent. Good wine list at reasonable prices. Outdoor seating now. Comments on the old place are definitely accurate -- the resto was being run into the ground. But really if you haven't been here in the past 6-9 months, your information's way out of date.

I know that the feds increased the conforming limit to $729K for high-value markets like NYC. But at least at Wells Fargo a couple of weeks ago, they were sticking to the existing $625.5K conforming limit, because that was the limit that Freddie and Fannie would repurchase mortgages. Has there been a change? Which lenders are actually using $729K now to write paper?

Yep -- lame...just as lame as the Parks Department's enlightened treatment of the Red Hook vendors. Trex or a substitute could be promoted as a "green" initiative. All bottom line all the time makes the City a dull boy. *sigh*

I agree -- Park Circle without lights means almost certain pedestrian death.

What I never understood is why the DOT has never tried properly timing lights and enforcing the posted speed on periphery streets. Traffic occurs from too many cars arriving at a bottleneck at the same time. Nobody should be surprised that there's traffic at Grand Army Plaza, Empire Blvd, and Park Circle when cars go 40-50 mph down PPW or flatbush to beat lights along the way...

Have been at least 20 times over the past 2 years -- food excellently prepared and a solid meal each time. The market menu is the perfect amount of food for the price point; a la carte is a bit high, but not outrageous for what you get. Service (including seating when crowded) isn't perfect unless you're "known" to the owners or staff, in which case they take care of you. But you know, to each his own on service -- if the food rocks you should be able to look past a few warts. If not, eat in Manhattan. But I disagree that there are many comparable choices in the neighborhood. Yes, there are other good places, but food-wise, SP comes out at or near the best.

Okay -- well what if there is no neighbor to talk to, but an out-of-town developer about to begin a teardown of a lot which shares a common driveway? And what if the DOB permits aren't in a visible location, so the neighbor can't even ascertain what's supposed to be going on?
