Automatic Arms Fire on Monroe

I just heard someone empty an kalashnikov or kel-tec on Monroe or maybe Madison between Classon and Franklin. Three volleys. I called it in. What the hell!

Oh, and tell him Ben on Classon sent you. :)

Joe O'Shea saved my bacon on two deals now. The first thing he did was to advise me to walk from the first deal when it started going sideways. Didn't want any money from us, so he was acting _against_ his best interest, which is rare for NYC lawyers. The second deal was with a real piece of work and he drilled right through all the crap and made it super-easy to get everything we wanted. Call him before the other party nambs him first!

Oh, and if you don't know wine and want to talk about it less? The yum house wine is priced by the inch! No excuses for bad vino here.

It is a bit expensive and complicated. And I was never so pleased to not have to go all the way into Manhattan for a special event meal.

Oh, and just hand them back the green stuff with a smile when they try to put it down. :>) Everything else is divine!

They have one of the best wine programs in the area and the genial hosts can have an hour debate about the pairing benefits of their bottles and will talk you _down_ into a more reasonably priced selection. If you insist, they will bring out the really expensive stuff that ain't on the list and they hesitate to actually part with.

They are lovely. If for no other reason, they are ours.

White Glove Elite. (212)684-4460. Used them for years.

Ask for someone who is experienced in cleaning an entire brownstone. There are some fabulous cleaners out there, but there are some slow and lazy ones too.

Sorry, it was some sort of an assault rifle.

Do nothing this week. Banks aren't even lending to each other! You will waste your time and have the black mark of declined application.

GAP is now a huge waste of space. The wooded north end is unusable and dangerously blind. The tiny islands of arch and fountain are surrounded by cobble and blacktop and are otherwise featureless and wheelchair/stroller inaccessable. The traffic pattern wasn't designed around aggro NYC drivers and pedestrian crossings are barely an after-thought.
Minimumly, there needs to be under/overpass access and landscaped paths around and linking the islands. Burying traffic can cost big, but understand how the Atlantic Yards will forever change the big picture in a few short years, it may be unavoidable to bypass traffic controlled intersections.

If you think you will be renovating, take it as it comes. If you hesitate at all here, freakin walk. There are SO many condo/coops in inventory that you should not settle for any shinanigans. Walk!

Well, a Kalishnikov would probably be AK47 or one of its variants, which takes 7.62 (.308) ammo, while most Kel-Tecs take 5.56 (.223) ammo. The discriminating 'hood dweller should be able to tell the difference.

A few useless facts:

1. AK47 = Kalishnikov. It's the name of the gun and the name of the Russian who designed it.

2. Based upon "heartbreak ridge" (the clint eastwood classic about the invasion of Grenada), the AK makes a distinctive sound that is easily identified.

Our housecleaner, Judith is a really nice lady and very hard working. Her number is 347-406-1215. Her rates are reasonable as well. Tell her Jen in Bay Ridge recommended her.

Just be careful that your cleaning person understands that this is a house (multiple floors) and not an apartment. Over the years, I've been surprised that my apartment friends recommend cleaning folks who wither at the reality of climbing ladders, running up and down stairs, and dealing with all sorts of ornate woodwork and moldings. It's really hard work.

imho

We use two excellent, reliable, thorough and trustworthy cleaning women. They are available on Mondays and/or Wednesdays. They work all over the city, but clean many houses in Park Slope. Highly recommended! Contact Verna and Margaret at 718.450.1737.
