Need Structural Engineer
We need recommendations for structural engineers who can identify causes of leaks in newly built masonry extension. I tried home inspectors who want to charge $600 to run a hose on the roof. We need someone who really understands construction and the ways of water. Neither our contractor nor our architect's attempts to find the source of the problems have panned out.

Try to get a recommendation from your real estate attorney. They work with a couple of people all the time, an informal vetting.

I had very bad customer service from KnobsandThings.com. They had a very high restocking fee for a fixture that had a piece missing. Their customer service reps have the "I hate this job and I'm not going to be the least bit helpful to you" attitude.
I ended up buying all cabinet hardware at Restoration Hardware after searching at Simon's, Gracious Home and several online sites.
If you sign up for Restoration Hardware email you'll start getting $100 coupons good w/ purchase -- they seem to be in a lot of trouble and looking to dump inventory.

thanks for the reco. I had tried Lowe's but could not even get a salesperson to help after waiting around for a while.
I'm using a fabricator in Red Hook based on a recommendation from someone at Dykes.

Thanks Otis - any recommendations on who to contact? I've seen Metro trucks/signs and watched their workers who have not inspired confidence. Would appreciate any advice on the Go To firm for troubleshooting/problem solving. I am not interested in filing a law suit I just want a dry house.

A structural engineer will not be able to help you. What you need is a waterproofing consultant. The majority of new construction suits are the result of poor weatherproofing.

So who is a good "waterproofing consultant" in New York? We have a similar problem and have had no luck finding the leak source.

I used Heights Woodworking. They did my staircase in red-oak and popular and stripped the banister and spindels. Price $5,000. They did an excellent job.
I then used Joe Salem to stain and poly the wood of the stairs, molding, casings and windows. Great guy and very reasonably priced.

How did the fabricator in Red Hook work out? If the quality of their work was good, could you give me their name.
