Where are the best places to buy light fixtures?

We need several fixtures for formal and informal spaces in a 1880s brownstone. Period to modern. Any recommendations in BK or Manhattan? Txs!

Does anyone know where to buy moving boxes in BK

We need new moving boxes. Manhattan OK, but rather buy them locally if possible. Driving no problem.

ISO Room to Rent

My mother is in search of a room to rent in Ft. Greene/Clinton HIll for 3 or 4 weeks (beginning next Wednesday) while some work is completed in her apartment. She's 65, really nice and quiet, completely responsible. A room in a private house or a studio sublet would work well. Please contact me at ajd32@columbia.edu with any leads. Thanks! April

Smelly New Radiators

We bought two new radiators (Governale - gov-free) back in October but have kept the valves closed because they smell so bad when on. It's a sort of a chemical smell, hard to describe. We've tried to "burn it off" with no luck. We plan to call the manufacturer but are wondering if anyone's had a similar experience or knows what the smell is and how to correct. The radiators have not been painted if that's relevant. Thanks.

There's a storage place on Flatbush, near Third Avenue, right next to the Army recruiting office, that sells boxes. Also, of course, UHaul on 4th Avenue (across from the Novo, I think).

Why Brand New Boxes April? They are expensive and such a waste of perfectly good trees. I have also done the craigslist thing and the boxes are typically in very good shape and clean. If they are not, you can just take the ones you want.

Just what we need in the City, more garbage and wasted trees...

Sometimes people give away moving boxes for free.
Try wwwfreecycle.org or craigslist

In case you can't find them locally, we used uline.com. They deliver the next day and they're much cheaper than anything we could find locally, even with shipping. Their packages are especially handy--boxes, tape, bubble wrap, packing paper, etc. The only thing is you have to buy in bulk, usually 20-50 at a time.

Local moving/storage places like UHaul are outrageously priced. Uline is good, try the yellow pages (remember them) under packaging supplies.

It would be great to be able to get free used moving boxes... but with frequent reports of bed bugs, and other assorted
"creepies", who would want to take the risk of moving more than yourself into your new home! :)

Uhaul has boxes. They will also buy back what you don't use.
