Bathroom Recaulk & Mold

Hi all --

We've got a bit of mold in the caulking of our shower tiles and planned to replace it this weekend. But we just noticed that the baseboard adjacent to the tub is a little worse for wear -- some slight mold around the bottom, and some softening from moisture. We want to be sure to deal with the problem adequately. Can anybody suggest a good, honest bathroom contractor or mold guy we can bring in for a consult? Or any other advice? Many thanks!

Small area wood floor reno

We have a section of maybe three feet of loose and saggy floorboards in a hallway alongside an old radiator. It may call for the installation of new subfloor or some other structural fix. Any suggestions on a high-quality floor contractor who will accept a smaller job?

Many thanks.

Wood floor repair?

We have a stretch of very creaky and loose floorboards in a hallway. One of the boards is cracking and probably needs to be replaced, and there may be a problem with the underlying subfloor. Anybody have a favorite flooring contractor in Brooklyn? Is there anybody I ought to avoid? And any idea what a reasonable quote should look like? The troublesome patch is about two feet by three feet.

Verrazano Flooring hot or not?

We have a few very bouncy floorboards, maybe an indication of a cracked joist. The squeak doesn't bother us, but we want to address the problem before it worsens and a floorboard cracks. I've read mixed reviews of Verrazano Flooring. Can anybody recommend an alternative?

Floorboard repair?

We have a few loose and very squeaky floorboards in our pre-war apartment. They give a little spring to your step when you walk over them, which I don't mind especially, but one board in particular shows signs of strain, and I'm afraid that it may break down the line if we don't take care of the problem. Can anyone recommend a good floor repairman? Any ballpark idea what the repairs might cost us? Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions -- I think the problem may require more than just talcum powder. The floorboards are pretty bouncy. Any suggestions about a good floor person who could re-seat the flooring to the joists if that's what's required? Any ideas about what it might cost?
Thanks!

depending on how bad the dip is, you might be able to just use some shims to get the squeaking to stop. basically shim between the joist and the subfloor.

if it's really bad, you might consider sistering the offending joists, which isn't that tough of a DIY project (if you're into that kind of thing)

It could be anything from a cracked joist to dry rot to termites. Best to call a flooring company like Verrazano to check it out.
