Open house TV: SevenBerry vs Oro

Today WNBC-TV Channel 4 is repeating the episode of “Open House NYC” that features 7 Berry and the Oro. For those not familiar with the program this show, sponsored by developer K. Hovnanian and Buick, features (expensive) real estate around the city.
In this episode the house hunter is taken to both places by her agent giving us a chance to see the inside of both of these condos you might not see unless you had about 800,000 to spend. At first she liked the Oro better than the Developers Group condo but ultimately her Manhattanite snobbery took over and she rejected both. I was struck by how crappy the D group’s condo was for that price range. (check out that view!)

The episode airs again at 12:30pm today but if you miss it you can follow this link to view it. http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid285076654/bclid291684297/bctid1328193884

New Traffic light on Liningston

DOT finally put a traffic light at the intersection of Livingston Street and Gallatin Place. This will allow a safer crossing for people of the Brooklyn Tabernacle and
New York City Transit who share offices in the old Workmen’s Compensation building and the refurbished 177 Livingston. The poles were put up this weekend and the light was fully working Tuesday. They may have to tweak the timing and add a crosswalk but in the end it will be a safer crossing than the nearby corner of Smith where there are vans, buses and a lot of turning traffic.

Make sure you get one from a store with a good return policy. We had to try a few before getting one that did not ring unexpectedly. All sorts of frequencies can set them off. But the one we have now is very reliable. Sorry I don't have the name with me.

" the global credit crunch will only serve to slow things down further."

Good point, but I think 3 years is still a possiblity.

"more bang for the buck at Concord Village..."

More pollution too. It is right over all that none stop Brooklyn Bridge traffic.
At least this building is on a quiet street. Easy to get a cab and only a block and a half from the nearest train station. and you don't have to cross eight lanes of traffic to get anywhere.

This will not be as big a problem for these developments. I was down by the site of Edge is weekend. It is only 4-5 blocks from the Bedford Ave station on the L. Northside Piers is a block down the street. So people living in these buildings will have an option if the water taxi dosen't work out.

A market the size of a Garden of Eden, Dean and Deluca or D’agostinos would work here. It would not really compete with a Trader Joe’s they are not that close. It would serve people in the new building as well as the neighborhood as it is a long walk uphill to the food stores on Montague or Atlantic.

“A market by a park (i.e lots of pedestrians, kids, strollers, dogs) that will be accessible only by car?”

Most likely after the park is built there will be public transportation routes created such as shuttle buses or a bus route extention.

"what is getting torn down for this -- is this on the east side of the street? Or is this replacing part of Metrotech on the west side? According to the CityMap, it's right in the middle of Myrtle Avenue next to 4 metrotech, but I don't see how it fits."

2:38, This building is east of Metrotech on the east side of Flatbush Ave. A few little stores, a fast food lot, and a grocery store were torn down to make way for development between Flatbush and Asland. But I agree with you either this building is going to be THAT ugly or that is the WORST rendering I have ever seen.

There are plenty of people living in this area, University Towers, the housing project, some small homes. The difficulty is services such as supermarkets, drug stores, and drycleaners are a longer walk than some residencial areas but they will come in with the new building.

As for "roll out of bed" convenience 2 words...

FRESH DIRECT!

I don't think it will free up much parking downtown. Many of the legal spaces are reserved for Police and judges even going into residenial streets. With this many transportation options during the day they need to cut down on some of the reserved spaces. Court officials that work the night court should still have some reserve parking But they don't need much since competition for space is less at night.
