I hired Verazzano to do my mom's ground floor of her brownstone several years back. The team worked in a hurry and did a subpar job. They ended up only doing one coat of Poly which eventually wore down to the wood again after only 2 years. I'm guessing since they saw my elderly mother as the client they decided to just do a rush job. I regret hiring them.

For my own brownstone in 06 I used Carlos from Inti Interior Design and Wood Floors. He was very detailed, cost effective, and gave me recommendations for stain colors. Overall an honest and nice person. I'm using him again for I just purchased a property in Bergen County, NJ and he'll be doing my floors, railing, and steps. Carlos can be reached via his cell number at 646-281-2659, tell him Adam recommended him.

Good Luck,
A.K.

Hi, I hired AllRenovation to gut renovate my 3 story brownstone in Windsor Terrace. Here is a link to my personal before/after of the parlor floor.

http://picasaweb.google.com/kidronadam/BrownstoneParlorFloorRenovation?feat=directlink

Before I hired them I made sure I saw at least one current job site and 3 previous projects similar to mine. They had excellent references and best of all their estimate was line itemized. The other companies I was considering didn't even come close to how detailed AllRenovation was during the bidding process. I highly recommend them, ask for Pietro - he's the owner and he managed my project.

You can see more of their work on their website.

If you need more detailed info you can email me at adamkidron@hotmail.com and I'll send you my contact info.

I'm recommending AllRenovation, they are based in Staten Island but they do work mostly in Brooklyn and Manhattan. They gut renovated my 3 story brownstone in Windsor Terrace (Bklyn) and recently finished a beautiful victorian frame house in Midwood. You can find out or see more jobs they've done on their website...

I just got a quote from EBA for the following item...

Frigidaire
Model PHSC39EJSS
Stainless steel

They came it at the lowest price, beat AJ Madison, PC Richards, Sears, etc. They even beat eBay pricing. The item was quoted at $1507.00 I can't find it anywhere cheaper. I also bought my SubZero from them in 2005 at a low price (they beat drimmers pricing as well).

If you go to the store ask for Tom.

Good Luck,

Try AllRenovation, they recently refaced a Brownstone on President St. in Carroll Gardens in addition to a gut of the parlor. I saw it in the recent issue of NY Living magazine (November Issue). They worked on my brownstone in Windsor Terrace in 05/06. Give them a buzz, you won't be disappointed with the quality of the work and customer service.

I used AllRenovation for a gut renovation job on my Windsor Terrace brownstone in 06. They were the most reliable in terms of returning phone calls and meeting with me several times to go over the estimate. Also out of the four contractors I interviewed they were the only one who presented me with a professional itemized estimate with prices attached to each portion of the job.
The projected timeline that was proposed was kept and they were extremely professional, on time, cleaned up daily, etc. All in all a great experience for the newbie that I was. They have some pics from my project on their website but I've got the majority of the pics on my picassa account here (before/after/in progress shots)...

My friend recommended Verazano Flooring when my mom wanted to redo her original pine floors of her garden floor brownstone apartment. They came in and did a quick job which I though was routine since I had never had this type of work done. Within 2 - 3 years the poly in high traffic areas dulled then literally disappeared. I had not noticed but they may have just given her 1 coat of poly. Looking back the job was sloppy and very rushed. I would not recommend them.

I have used Carlos from Carlos Wood floors previously and he did an excellent job. He worked with me to suggest proper stains colors and his people did the job the way it was suppose to be done. I really felt like they cared about the quality of the work. Carlos can be reached via his cell number at 646-281-2659. He has since partnered with another interior finishing company called Inti Interior Finish & Wood Floors. I just hired him recently to do the floors of a new home I purchased in Ridgefield Park, NJ.

Hi,

I just signed up for Terminix's pest control services, they were offering 10% off on their website. You have to ask them to honor it over the phone and they will. They are set to come over to my brownstone tomorrow for the initial treatment, thereafter they come every 3 months or whenever you need them to come as you'll be signing a 1 year contract. Pricing is subject to your home's square footage and if it is a multi-family or single family. I'm paying $400 for the initial and $160 quarterly as I have a 3 family. I decided on Terminix as they seem very professional, especially helpful when I mentioned I have newborns (twins) in the home and they assured me the treatment would be safe or non-hazard for the children.
I currently have 2 tenants and I needed an option that would squash complaints about ants (in the summer), house centipedes, and now they saw one roach. I'm just to busy to deal with local exterminators so I chose this option. I'll let you know how it goes.

Good Luck,
Adam K.

Why would you do business with a company who's representatives are 99% curt ALL THE TIME with their customers. Drimmers was as will always be a nightmare unless top management changes or the company is sold and reorganized. I had a budget over 20k to spend on appliances and they still treated me like a piece of sh*t. I would never recommend DRIMMERS to anyone. Period.

Posted by: adamkidron at September 20, 2008 6:55 PM in response to Unfortunate experience with Drimmer's

I went through the same nightmare of first calling Drimmers and getting the worst customer service (why would you hire a rude person to answer your calls?) then I tried visiting since I'm not that far by car. They are even worse IN PERSON! They made me feel like they were the only people with high-end appliances in Bklyn so I had to go with them. Fortunately I found a random company through a friend called EBA WHOLESALE BROOKLYN. They carry almost ALL of the same items, their showroom isn't as nice but they definitely were better customer service oriented. I made the initial contact via the phone then went in to check out the store, again...nothing to write home about BUT the prices were great and I got my high-end appliances without using DRIMMERS! The delivery was normal - had to pay a fee since they had to bring it up my brownstone stairs - $100. Here is the info, not sure if the salesperson I used TOM is still there but he was very helpul. I purchased a Subzero Fridge and 2 Kitchen Aid professional series stove and overhead mircowave as well as appliances for my rental apartment. Everything worked and is still working after 2 years.

Here is the info and please stop giving business to those RUDE DRIMMER people!

Call EBA ask for TOM, you can reach him at 718-252-3400 X136
or email him at salesdesk1@shopeba.com

I did all my research with pricing online then had them match or lower their prices...they had the best prices.

A.S.

The selection is limited to none, most of the "good" sit-in restaurants closed shop in the late 80' - 90's (Scarolas, etc.) We are now left with mostly take out Chinese/Mex places and pizza shops. Korner Pizza which has been around since the 60's does make a mean slice...best in Brooklyn!

AllRenovation worked on my Brownstone in Windsor Terrace in 2005. I didn't have a problem with cost in relation to their quoted estimate or final contract numbers. I eventually had 2 change orders but that was due to some additional work that I decided AllRenovation could also handle. So my experience was not negative when it came to honoring their prices. The only numbers that changed were due to me requesting more work to be done (ie. HVAC work, cement work in my backyard, installing basement washer/dryer + boiler vent, new roof flashing, etc.) You can email me at adamkidron@hotmail.com for my contact # if you need more specifics. They were extremely honest workers and did a tremendous job so they deserve a good recommendation from me at the very least.

I am just completing a three-month renovation of a Cobble Hill brownstone. The work included digging the cellar framing, plaster work, fairly extensive plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, painting, kitchen renovation and all sorts of other small and large jobs.

I used Tim Curran as a manager 917 450 8230. He handled all the fees, permits, architects and managed the contractor JCL Construction.

I can not say enough good things about Tim and James, the owner of JCL. They were absolutely always professional always hardworking and equally importantly, always available. I spoke to them on the weekends and at night and could not be happier with their work, attitude and price. Give him a call.

I am an architect, specializing in sustainable design, and I've done a number of brownstone renovations in Park Slope and the Upper East side. I can highly recommend at least one contractor with whom I work over and over again. His name is Ronald Baker of RHB Design Build. He's a great guy to work with. Extremely conscientious and affordable. Email me directly at jim@urban-pioneering.com and I'll give you his info.

See posts on "Old Oak Flooring". Sean only does floors. His prices are fair and his craftsmanship is excellent. My house had old floors with sections of plaster patches (covered by carpet). He re-used/salvaged wood from rooms where I had to replace the entire floor - and used these pieces in other rooms that only need a patch job. He did this to ensure the flooring was a near match. The finished job looks great and you cannot tell where the patch is.

I had a horrible experience hiring Nayci Contracting for a large project. The father/son partners (Ayhan and Matt Nayci) sold themselves as a design/build firm and touted their own "architect." They said "yes" to everything we asked, we agreed on price. In the end, we were left with a half-working heating system, leaky plumbing, crooked framing and a poorly installed toilet (with 2 wax seals to make up for the height difference between the sewage pipe and the tile floor!). After we threw them out (much too late), we discovered that their plumber, "architect", and heating subcontractors were not licensed. It has been over a year now, and we are still paying to keep the results of their poor workmanship from destroying our home (leaky toilet, poor heating installation, etc.).
