I agree with previous post + the GC might not take the job if you decide to go your way. You are asking for trouble.

Any suggestions on stores with good carpet selections for brownstones stairs. What is the correct size for stairs? How much stair should show in relation to carpet.

Try Aiden from Emerald Furniture, he recently duplicated the following door for a beautiful corner brownstone home in Cobble Hill....

I actually copied and pasted it from her site - see her about us page. I was just being lazy! Way to insult someone you don't know, how old are you? And for your information I'm a male so please refrain from calling me Debra! Actually, I know a rugby player named Deb so its ok I guess!

He came to my home to price a job on my brownstone stairs. He promised me a quote in a week, I never heard back from him. That's not acceptable in my book and just sends me a signal that he may not be a responsible contractor.

Hi,

I used AllRenovation for my brownstone in Windsor Terrace, I saw a very beautiful condo job in Bay Ridge that they did before I hired them. Very good honest workers, their quote was very fair and detailed (line itemized) unlike other contractors who just gave me a bulk quote. You can see their work at the following website.

http://www.allrenovation-ny.com

or call them at 718-351-4099

Good Luck,
Adam

I sent J. Mos an e-mail on Saturday, he responded by Saturday evening, looked at the property on Sunday and I received a written estimate in the mail yesterday. I am definitely not in a position to watch over or stay on top of anyone since I do not live in the house that needs the work done and am not physically in a position to check on the work while it is being done. I need someone who is dependable and reliable. I know some might think I'm asking for the impossible: competence, pride in work, reliability, honesty and a fair price.

Posted by: guest at November 15, 2007 9:41 PM in response to Brownstone Authority

We used JMos to fix our brownstone stairs and he did a horrendous job the first time AND the second time after we raised cane. Within 3 months its cracking/peeling and we ended up using Metro to fix those things and their work has lasted well.

I don't, however, question his professionalism. He was very courteous and responsive during the estimates and when we asked him to come back and fix the work, he did it for free...just the work itsself was not quality work for the prices he charged.

10:09 Thanks for letting me know about your experience. Now I might not feel like I am settling if I go with another contractor. I guess it's time to call Metro for an estimate.

Posted by: guest at November 15, 2007 11:13 PM in response to Brownstone Authority

The thing at Hassan at Metro is, as you'll see from other postings, that he's hard to get ahold of b/c he's all over the neighborhood. Everyday when I'm walking the dog, I see at least 3-4 Metro signs...so he's busy, but if you can get ahold of his cell phone number, which i don't have right now, i was able to talk directly to him and that worked the best.

Posted by: spintoto at November 15, 2007 11:45 PM in response to Brownstone Authority

Thanks Everyone! If someone does have Hassan's cell phone number at Metro could you please post it.

Posted by: guest at November 16, 2007 3:14 AM in response to Brownstone Authority

Metro, stop posting yourself. You are doing it again. How can you compare your quality or work with that of Brownstone Authority!
You both did work on my block and the quality of work from Brownstone Authority is superior.
