As a former employee of the Department, I feel obligated to say that it is much much easier to post on a message board that not a lot of in depth thinking occurs than it is to create a rezoning with affordable housing and light manufacturing incentives at once. Throw it appeasing artists and historic preservationists and accommodating landowners who've waited twenty years for ROI, and achieving consensus is not easy.
I ran the hell away from DCP because it is a bit of a trainwreck, but I assure you that there is plenty of thinking going on.

This isn't the same building that had the NY Mag article, is it? Because if it is, there goes your market indicator...

I think the appropriate adjective for MAS would be respected. They will have very little influence in the upcoming approval process...

This location is amazing. Does anyone know how/why this has stayed vacant as long as it has? How long was it, 2+ years?
Like most things, Pintchik is not as bad or as good, as described above...

Amazing color range on this. How'd you do it?

Excuse my financial ignorance but why would the banks/lenders jack up the rates on these option ARMs when they know it will only lead to foreclosure? Seriously, I don't get it.
I know they wouldn't want to keep the teaser rate forever, but isn't any revenue stream better than what they would receive in foreclosure?
Anyone care to enlighten?

Say it out loud: It's not elitist to think that the retail mix on Fulton Street is crap. Feel better?
If this were a truly successful strip, the upper floors of most of these building wouldn't be occupied by ceiling to ceiling advertisements, storage, or vacant space. You would have more productive uses above, like reliable office tenants, which granted do exist here.
How can the case be made you NEED two Modell's within 3 blocks of each other? Two Burger Kings? How many Jimmy Jazz? It may be profitable for these businesses (and congrats to them) but that does not mean this area is healthy and/or a lively place to hang out.

Although EnglishKills is being a bit harsh, he/she is essentially correct. The work and community consent for Fort Greene/Clinton Hill was completed under her predecessor, as was the MUCH more difficult Greenpoint-Williamsburg, and she has fairly little influence for Coney Island (EDC and the Mayor drive this one, as everyone knows). Credit should be steered her way for DUMBO (should they ever get this one done), Sunset Park, and Flatbush.
I think it would be more accurate to say the Borough Director (the title) has the power, and not ms. kapur individually. The position has the power to sway "millions of dollars in property value for a single parcel."

I never understood this store. Compared to the similarly lux-priced Greene Grape, these guys didn't SELL anything. A whole chicken, and one or two things on shelves. Just bizarre.
This space is way too small for a bar. I agree, Cellars is begging for a clean up and would be a better spot...

What inactivity? This site has had (active) cranes in the street for weeks. It's actually made walking to the Q train a pain. I appreciate the concrete pour update mr b. but this one's been-a-moving for a while. Below grade construction counts too!

"The height limits do not bar density - they just protect the ambience of the place and make it more livable." - No, by reducing the height you are almost inherently reducing the density. On NY sized lots, how wouldn't this be the case?
On the larger point - there is no neighborhood more self absorbed and irrational than the people of CG. And if Walentas is smart enough to con DOB into approving the bulkheads, that's on DOB, so point your anger thataway.
