recommend a car mechanic please.
I have burning break pads. I can smell burnt rubber when I drive and the break light is on. I had this problem a year ago and went to Pep Boys on 4th Ave. I think they are a scam.
Can you recommend a good mechanic around Boerum Hill area who you trust, have had good experiences with?
Thanks

Where can I buy gravel???
Hello, I need to level off my 22x10 back yard area to lay down some synthetic grass. In order to do so I need to lay down about 2 cubic feet of 1/4" minus aggregate (gravel). I went to the Lowe's and Home Depot and they have nothing of the sort.
Can anyone tell me where I can buy this stuff? Being in Brooklyn I have no clue where a rock quary might be or even if they sell such small amounts retial.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Watermellon...

Trying to carpet my stairs
Hi, I would like to carpet my steps. I have about 12 steps leading from my first floor to the finished basement. I would like to try to do this myself as it does not sound like it should be that complicated.
Has anyone ever done this job before, if so can you tell me if it is more time consuming and difficult than I think?
I would expect I can get the job done in one day or less.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How do I get rid of Crachheads in front of my apartment
For some reason or another my buildings stoop has become a meeting point for crackheads. None of them live in the buidling, yet for some reason they always sit on our stoop. They are constantly drinking/Smoking crack and making a total mess of the area. They constantly pick apart our garbage as well. We have seen them urinate in front of the building numerous times.
I have spoken with everyone in the building and neighbors and no one wants these people around. At the same time most people are scared to do anything about it.
I have started calling the cops but they do not seem to care, even when they arrive and the crackheads are still there.
What can we do to get rid of the crackheads?

Great place, the owners are the shiznit. Funny fella's. Great atmosphere and now that they have an outdoor it is probably the best place to drink on Smith Street. I highly recommend it, and they have cheap and expensive options so no one is priced out.
The pizza is respectable, in no way is it anywhere close to the best in the city. It is also grossly overpriced. Good pizza for sure, but I would not wait the time nor pay the price for it.
I really miss Leonardo's on Court where Dunkin Doughnuts is now. They were a great pizza place. Pizza was not the best in the city but still great and cheap.

Was so much better under the Nino's ownership. It is too inconsistent. The pizza is better than Sam's and well priced but you never know what you gonna get.
Sals is the best pizza in the area, but they are too expensive.

nothing to write home about but not the worst option. The neighborhood really needs a proper place to watch football on sundays. Wades is packed and they blast music instead of the games for some ridiculous reason. Downtown is just aweful, you have an order of fries and 3 beers and get a $50 bill after waiting an hour.
The best option would be O"Keefs on Court, they have the absolute best bar food around, their wings kick a$$. It is big and has plenty of TVs. but for some reason they can not get the NFL package. My buddy use to work there, he claims they can not because they need to put a dish on the building they are in and the building is owned by the Jahovahs who refuse to allow them to put such a dish up. I would think there are other ways to get all the games though, doesnt time warner offer an nfl package, or one of the other cable carriers?
Any chance we can get superfund status for the Gowonus Houses? You want to improve the neighborhood blow up those projects and make a nice big park. The real estate around here would triple overnight.

Respectable wings and the delivery guy was very well versed in foreign policy. We ordered one day, he shows up, strolls into my apt and looks at the TV which for some reason was on an interview with Henry Kissenger. The guy says eeeeyyyyyy mon is dat Enrrry Kissemger.......... Dat crazy coconut bloodclot........

I think its a great location for a really good bar or restaurant with those big windows, right on the corner. no outdoor though....
Apologies, my first post said 'cubic feet', I meant 'cubic yards'
Posted by: Watermellon at April 27, 2009 7:54 AM in response to Where can I buy gravel???
THE space is 22x10. 220 sq feet. to make it cubic yards:
220/27 (cubic yard 3x3x3)=8.148
8.148/.1667 (2 inch depth / 12 inches in a foot=.1667)= 1.358
I need exactly 1.358 cubic yards of pea gravel to cover my 220 sq foot back yard at a depth of 2 inches.
This equates to about 55 bags of the stuff at lowes, that is too much to put in one car, I want to get it delivered.

Good place. I like the egg and chorizo wrap for breakfast with a fruit shake.
Agree about them being slow.

One of the neighborhood standards for us. We go almost once a week. Great food, kid friendly, great beer. Can not go wrong. The texas dip brisket sandbo is the shiznickle!

One of my favorite restaurants on Smith hands down. There are so many meals you can order. The steak au poive is a great value at $16.50 (cheaper than a pizza at Savoia), the roasted chicken with mashed is great, the porkchop on the bone is excellent as well, the tuna nicscois (sp?) is quality and the charcheutterie (sp?) is also a good value for what they give you. You can also get a decent wine for $24.
I will admit it is not gonna blow you away but it is quality food for a legit price and the atmosphere is great, especially the back yard in summer.
I am also a fan of that pretty little number who waits the tables with the tattoo on her arm. Mmmmmmmmmmhhhhhmmmmmmm I will order that!
Watermellon wrote a review about Savoia on January 30, 2009 12:56 PM
I like the restaurant but they have gotten too excessive with the pricing. Especially on the wine. They have one $28 bottle, another $32 and the rest is in the $40s or higher. It is not that great a place that they can charge that much for wine, and the wine itself is not worth what they charge.
They lifted prices on everything last summer by quite a bit. I love the Reale pizza, it use to be $15, than one day it was $17.50. That is a lot for a pizza.
The eggplant caponata appetizer is a great value though, for $8.50 it is practically a meal and tastes great. Also the meat and cheese plates are good, will cost $23 but the selection is excellent. They should have more garnish on it though, like figs or apples.
All in all, I would go a lot more if it was a bit cheaper.
Thanks ParkPlace, can you tell me roughly what it cost?

One place I miss was Carlito's Way, the bar that occupied the spot where Wades is now. THey use to have a hot tub where the pool table was and they sold blow out the back window.
now that was quality smith street!!!

Patois sucks! They have really lost any credibility with their pathetic food.
Chestnut, Po, Grocery, Saul, are you kidding. Smith is doing just fine...

I bought a condo in March, have not yet received a rebate check. WHo do I call or check with to find out if I should be getting one?

I bought a condo off of Smith St in March, have not yet received a rebate. I did get something from NYC Finance claiming my mortgage company owed an additional $392 in taxes, not sure what that was.
Who do I call to find out if I should be getting such a rebate???

Great pizza, love the authenticity of the place, the problem is the waiter is a total Dbag. We use to go as a group on sundays, they were always cool. We stopped going after a while, some of the group moved out, etc. I went back on two occasions with the wife, they litereally let us sit there for 20 minutes without as much as an 'I will be right with you'. On both occasions we got up and walked out.
It is too bad as the pizza is really outstanding. There are enough good options in the area that I do not really miss the place. I can find comprable pizza elsewhere.
I called the cops yesterday, spoke with the community affairs officer at the 76th. He was very cool and attentive. I explained the situation and he said he would make sure the beat cops check the spot more often. He also said to call 911 every time we see them there and hopefully something can get done.
I will put up a no trespassing sign as well and see how that works.
I do not talk to the crackheads at all. They are actually very nice, they talk to everyone and even offer sexual 'services' for $10.

Thanks for the info. There is 3 of them, but one woman in particular who is there half the day. She knows I call 911 so she disappears when she sees me but than appears half hour later after the cops show up and leave. I know calling 911 will eventually register and I have asked the neighbors and my building to follow suit.
I like the idea of pouring water on the spot.

This bar SUCKS!!!! The cheapest beer they have is Schaffer in a can for $5!!! If you want to be successful during football season, have some specials for christ sake. We went opening weekend and somehow had a $120 bill for two people. You spend the same time at Wade's and the bill will be $40.
The owner/managment are total d-bags as well. They look at you like you are an alien. And the pseudo-mick bartender with the beard. What a prcik. We walked in half hour before kickoff to get a spot at the bar (which was empty) and he had reserved every spot at the bar for his buddies. I asked how I could get a seat at the bar and he said "You gotta know the bartender"! I should have punched him square in the face.
I will never set foot inside this ripoff of a bar again. It is unfortuante as the space is great.

The return of major league sports would be a great thing for Brooklyn. With the Nets the Islanders are not far behind, along with great concerts and events. More importantly, a space that is useless and blighted becomes a job factory, and more important, tax collecting zone.
As for the court case, the USSC already decided in the New London case (as well as half a dozen others). Governments clearly have a constitutional right to use eminent domain in situations like this.
