Plumber needed
Can anyone recommend a plumber in the Brooklyn Heights Boerum Hill area?
Garage Parking
I currently park my car on Boerum Place near Atlantic Ave and pay $300 per month. What are the going rates that people pay its hard to get straight answers from the garages. BTW my car is an SUV. Thanks

Great Painter
I just recently bought a place in Boerum Hill. I placed an add on here several weeks ago looking for a painter. Someone recommended Jaime Grubb to me. I called him and he came by and did an estimate and gave a very fair price. I decided to go with Jaime and he got the job done in a very timely fashion and did great work as well. Its obvious he takes pride in his work. I highly recommend Jaime for any painting needs. His number is 917-446-5175.
Hardwood Floors repair
I just bought an apartment in Boerum Hill and need the hardwood floors cleaned up there are some gaps so I need the flooring to be evaluated. I would appreciate any referrals. Thanks

That is weird. Here is what I dont understand how they were allowed to open aa office like that in a condo building???
Dont you think the association would fight that. Or maybe threaten to not pay their dues?

Does anyone know how that Mortons is doing? I have never stopped in but curious if there is a crowd there on weeknights or weekends.

Its just weird when you get to the end of Joralemon and cross Furman its very suspect for that type of price they are charging. But to be honest walking home at midnight could be suspect. I bet there is not alot they can do with Furman St now.

I went to go look at an apt this weekend again at 1BBP. The apartments are awesome. Even the ones facing the BQE. You dont even feel like the highway is there because you are so high above it. But the location is weird. You need to go under the BQE then walk past that service road that is like a higway. And the sidewalk is like 3 feet wide so it feels like cars are coming right onto the sidewalk. I can understand for dealing with the location for a one bedroom but to pay 4 mill for a place there is a tough call. But again I am sure those views are worth it. ANd another plus is no work is needed.

dave in bedstuy - I really dont think its the wrong side of Atlantic. State has some great spots. You should venture dow nthose parts before you make a comment. And its closer to subway.

MR. MOIST zip it. Is this location that great? What is so intriguing about this building besides its taking forever.

There are a million buildings going up all over Brooklyn but we need to hear about third and bond??? What is so great about this building?
You should do a Bar of the Day as well as the Restaurant of the Day tha you do. God knows we have enough booze bags here in Brooklyn.

Seriously who gives a crap about this building. Why are you guys pumping it up every week???
They must be throwing this website a bone.

Could this be a common trend like what Hecho en Dumbo and Patois are doing? Places leaving Brooklyn and going into Manhattan. With commercial rents going down I am sure there as some good deals to be had. Lets hope its not the trend.

I have walked by there a million times and never went in. I need to give it a shot to watch a football game this year.
Downtown Bar and Grill a few storefronts down. What is wrong with that place? I love the inside. They have a ton of TV's and great beer selection. But they have 2 major problems: It is so expensive that it is comical and the service is always bad. We were the only ones eating there for lunch one day and the same guy is always there and he is just standing there not coming over when we have empty drinks and he does it every time. The only reason we have gone back is because the food is good. Ate there about 5 times but thats it never going back.
Been there twice. THe place is open the wings are great.... ITs a must try.

Its hard to go into Pacifico-Trout-Snce 1963 because they look so dirty. I live in the area and want to like these places but you have that empty spot next to Pacifico with all that garbage and crap just sitting there and all 3 places seems like the need to be torn down and start over. Its hard to feel comfortable eating there when the outside is a mess and it seems like they just want a quick fix to have these restaurants to start working. On another note Pacifico's ritas are awesome.

What are they doing with the buildings that are on the park site? The ones right next to One Brooklyn Bridge building...It would be great if they flatened everything.

I wanted this place to work so bad. Went in there a few times and every time was very stressful. Watching people not know how to make a sandwich. ANd the fact they had 15 people behind the counter not knowing what to do. The best was the 2 mangers walking around watching them struggle and never stepped in to help. Id rather make the trek down to Los Paisanos Meat Market on Smith Street. They atleast know what to do and use the best stuff.
Its a joke how poorly run that place was. It was confusing you never knew where to pay or what counter it was a mess from Day 1....Its a great location hopefully something good comes.

bmfesq - areas change. Just because something was in that location in the 50's doesnt mean it should always be there. Areas change and evolve. Rikers Island is the answer...

BIFF you are really missing the point. Its almost embarassing. at 110 you are getting a brandnew apartment with awesome amenities thats in mint condition. That means something. So I will say it again I dont see too manty apts in B- Heights that are as nice as this one. Yes I am not talking about brownstones. You are completely missing my point but I guess wit ha name like BIFF it makes sense.
BTW I am a chef.

Biff I live in the area as well and am not a broker at all.
Why dont you look to see what is avaiable in CHARMING-VILLE aka Brooklyn Heights for under $700k???
I would take an apartment in this building alot faster than somewhere in the Heights for that price.
Posted by: THAL at June 25, 2009 3:13 PM in response to Condo of the Day: 110 Livingston Street, #6W
Biff Champion you are a complete MORON! Its obvious you have no clue what you are talking about. Yes I agree it is Downtown Brooklyn but that location has so much around it. With Boerum Hill/Smith Street and Cobble Hill/Court Street and cross Court and you are in B-Heights.
I think everyone understands that its not in the heart of B-Heights but take a look whats available for sale in B-Heights and unless you are buying a Brownstone or want an older co-op with a crazy high maintenance there is nothing avaiable. 110 Livingston is a block from Borough Hall and has brand new apartments that are in mint condition and common charges are great comparing to everything else.
It just cracks me up when clueless people make comments about something they have no clue what they are talking about. BTW no matter what happens this building will always be a 2 minute walk to the subway.
NO MANS LAND????
Restaurants on SMITH STREET
Restaurants on COURT STREET
Restaurants on ATLANTIC AVENUE
Restaurants on MONTAQUE
THE LIST GOES ON and ON...

Action Jackson seriously shut it. Bottom line the area is over rated and Boerum and Cobble blow it away... There is nothing like driving or walking by Target and the rest of that horrible shopping area. It is a joke.
Posted by: THAL at February 18, 2009 9:59 AM in response to Fort Greene: City's Best Nabe?
First of all what the hell is this person talking about. Fort Greene is ok but its is not even close to being the best area in Brooklyn. Driving in and out of Fort Greene is horrible. Anywhere near One Hanson Place is a complete mess. YEah they have some good resataurants but nothing near the level of Smith and Court.
Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill all blow Fort Greene away. Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights blow Fort Green away even more.
I guess if you are into hanging out at shady havan outpost than go for it Fort Greene is for you. I just find that area very suspect and very hard to get in and out of. Its always a complete cluster fu*k.

First of all some people on here are clueless...
EXAMPLE:
"but owning my own building a little further into Brooklyn definitely trumps only owning a duplex in BH. Honestly, I don't even like BH that much. It's kind of boring. :)"
People buy a place to be in an area. There are a ton of brownstones in bedstuy and crown heights for 500k but who the hell would want to live there. Or buy a house on Long Island 1hr from the city then you can have youir own yard. People want convenience and a great area. I dont live in Brooklyn Heights but its by far the nicest area of Brooklyn yes it doesnt have a ton of restaurants/bars but its one stop to city and borders BH and CH and Dumbo...
Or you can go buy a house In Bensonhurst... People are so clueless sometimes. What about co-ops on Park Ave???? I guess those people should buy a house in Queens to own there own space...
I cant believe I even replied to this person but whateva...

I need to try Saul and Grocery and Chestnut they all look real good.
Smith needs a good sports bar...That would be great if something like that went into the Trout space...
Downtown Bar and Grill is too overpriced....

WHat will happen with TROUT space now???? Hopefully something good comes in....Becasue that and Pacific is a dump...

I love how these people dont want change to the neighborhood at all. I bet all these people were against Metro tech as well... When that was the best thing for the area ever....
These people put no money into the area, vandalize the area, keep the area dirty, but dont want change they want to live in a mess. Now developers are building new buildings, getting a new type of person to the area and everyone is bitter becasuse: a)they cant afford it and b) its not affordable housing or something for free...
When the people moving to the area in these new developments are hardworking and will put money into the community. I understand some developments may be ugly and could be built better but what do u want SOHO to be like it was in the 70's and east village to stay the way it used to be. Times change get used to it or get out.....

TROUT had all the potential in the world. Great Location. Great Space. It was obvious the owners did not care about the place over the past year. The outside and inside was always dirty food in consistent. Pacifico is a joke as well. Dirty and rude staff. When you walk by both they are filthy and undesirable. They have the Pacific Pizza its never open it just makes no business sense the way they ran it.

In Boerum Hill/Cobble HIll what does a monthly space go for. I pay 300/month and it seems rather high when some people in Manhattan pay 250/month

Just Wondering -
WOW you solved everything. Its so simple. JACKASS...
This place should be torn down. Why not put it in Red Hook or the Navy Yard???? The area has changed so much it should not be there anymore.

You cant compare areas of FLA to NYC. People work here there will always be a demand to live here. Get a clue. Prices will probably come down more obviously but armageddon is not coming.

MISS MUFFET
Here is my problem with his statement he is hoping that real estate goes down 50% so he can buy in an area. Everyone knows that real estate needy to correct alittle but some people want people wiped out so they can get a deal of a life time. I just bought a place a few months back and got a discount of about 15% of the appraisal and was pretty excited. Who knows where real estate will go from here probably down a bit but I hate reading people hoping everything forecloses becasue his 25k salary cant afford an apartment. Thats my point.
Here is my question prime brooklyn(B-Heights and Boerum/Cobble Hill) I dont see prices getting smoked that bad. Especially for 1 bd becasue there is a demand for them. Are you telling me that apartments can come down another 50% (YOU ARE DREAMING) ITs a pipe dream.

THAL wrote a review about Lobo on October 17, 2008 2:36 PM
I just moved this summer to Boerum Hill and realized there is no good mexican in the area. Lobos drinks are great but food is just ok nothing special. Pacifico is just dirty and suspect inside. They need a place like ALMA in the area. I do like the drinks at LOBO and chips/salsa/guac but food is just blah... The area needs a fun solid mexican place. Like Canyon Road or Florencia 13. Good chill mexican...
Fatlenny and ingo are clueless...
THe time to buy is now in the stock market and RE... I luv how u said once it hits bottom then u buy. Becasue its so easy to find the bottom. You need to get a clue. This is when money is made when things look like they are falling apart and that is whats happening. People dont realize apts are negotiable get a good deal and see what happens builders may throw in incentives. There is not too many times in NYC you can negotiate and also remember rates are still low compard to history. Its amazing how many clueless and negative renters try to give advice. Just like the stock market when the RE market corrects it will be so fast you dont know what happened and you tried to time it month to month which is stupid... When u feel is a good deal go in...

DOW8000SP800,
We are not even close to a depression because during the depressions there was no government intervention and obvioulsy with the $700 billion bailoutthats another story. The credit markets will eventually start lending and the market will come back.

BH76, 53 Boerum is in a great location with great access to subway and B-Heights, Court and Smith street. The Be@Scher is in a pain in the ass area but building looks ok. I like 53 Boerums location much better.

bowl of dicks,
There is no need for anymore condos at all. They can make that strip retail(with restaurants/bars) or with apts above or like the State Street town houses or maybe a small park. There are a million different options but to just double it makes no sense. And btw I live in Boerum Hill and I am not a business owner.
Posted by: THAL at October 1, 2008 3:06 PM in response to Plans for HOD Go Forward
I am confused why people want the HOD reopened??? I understand why the HOD was put there in the late 50's but the area has changed drastically. I love how people say these Nimbys and so on but people have invested alot of money in the community and I see this as a major set back. Doubling the size is crazy and everyone knows it. Atlantic ave is finally flouishing and by putting something else in this spot would only connect the two sides of Atlantic Ave and really make it great. It seems like it all comes down to Bloomberg and if he gets elected again...

my apt is in Boerum Hill. The building is a few years old and has some gaps just not sure how much it would cost to get repaired? Where is yours?

ORESTES - Do you get out much? Your comment makes you sound like a complete ass.
I love people like you who do not want neighborhoods to ever change. I think we all understand we live near courts and the HOD but that doesnt mean the area still can not develop in the right way. ANd to put a bail bonds in the bottom floor of a condo building is a dumb idea. Especially for all of those people that invested in that building.
"suburban aesthetics" please again you are lost.
