Henry Public sounds a lot like Fort Defiance in Red Hook. I look forward to seeing if this is a new trend (cocktails, oysters, kold draft, great decor, etc) because it could be a great one.

I know a little of Judy Stanton and this is pretty much par for the course. She has spent over 20 years trying to re-fashion an entire neighborhood into her personal ideal and is completely unable to deal with something this with any sense of nostalgia or good humor.

The auto-correct of my spelling of "eminent domain" really could undermine my argument.

Whatever one's feelings are about the aesthetics of the project or the efficacy of imminent domain to obtain the requisite space you would have to admit that a construction development this large would require a workforce that the stimulus money is designed to help create.
Before I'm attacked politically, I am not a trickle-downer who believes that Ratner should get bailed out, I just see a lot of jobs being created by a big project like this going ahead.

"Frightfully dull." I'm choking on my tea and crumpets with laughter.

As a Brooklyn Heights native, I can tell you that Henry's End is a neighborhood institution. People in BH are known to go there at least a few times a year just to insure that it stays open and the staff hasn't changed in my memory. The waitress described above has been there since my early childhood (I believe her name is Mary) and when a neighbor from my childhood died a few years ago, she sat next to my mother at the memorial service. THAT is a true neighborhood place. Viva Henry's End!

No real Brooklynite would ever speak ill of Juniors regardless of it's quality. The place is iconic Brooklyn.

My old apartment's bedroom window used to look directly across the street into LuLuc and I have to say that the food never disappoints and the staff are always cordial and polite. It's also one of the last great early Smith Street spots.

There was a Hot Bird on Montague. It was in one of the upstairs commercial spaces between Clinton and Henry. The chicken was awesome but I think the whole thing was felled by some major health code issues. If memory serves there was a salmonella issue. Also, they used to pay high school kids to dress up in a chicken suit and hand out menus.

With all the IKEA shoppers, Red Hook would be ideal for a show brewery like Guinness has at St James Gate in Dublin.
