i live extremely close to this place but most likely wont go. Not a sports bar fan.

^^ the city already does that. People call those places the projects.

Posted by: Santa at November 6, 2009 10:59 AM in response to Affordable Housing on Tap

might be hard to find a place to buy a 40 and a fresh baked muffin at 1 in the morning over there.

gentrification is a figment of your imagination.

Posted by: Santa at November 4, 2009 11:25 AM in response to Closing Bell: Gentrification Indicators

"we live in brooklyn... not afganistan! i cant for the life of me imagine there has ever been a neighborhood anywhere in nyc where there hasnt been a baker, dry cleaner, and a place to get unsour milk. was it that bad at one time? if it was that is horrible.

*rob*"

Rob you complain about gentrifcation and then you pull out this stupid shit? Are you fucking stupid?

here are some photos from the bronx int he 80's

bakery and dry cleaners? you were lucky enough to not get stabbed by a tweaker.

Posted by: Santa at November 3, 2009 5:09 PM in response to Closing Bell: Gentrification Indicators

the grocery stores in park slope suck. I went to a grocery store next to the myrtle JMZ stop and it was great and had awesome produce and a butcher. I was blown away.

and yes Stella is a beer made in Belgium. Just because a cheese is made in Wisconsin doesn't mean its awesome cheese.

Posted by: Santa at November 3, 2009 5:01 PM in response to Closing Bell: Gentrification Indicators

guidos have nothing to do with gentrifaction. They're the only people I know who drink Stella and that was a sign on gentrifcation. And guidos are a sign of all hell breaking loose in your area.

also Rob I work with some guys who grew up in harlem and they were talking about the shitty days and definitely didnt have a dry cleaner or a baker and good milk wasnt easy to come by.

im not believing anyone really drinks stella.

Heineken too?

Posted by: Santa at November 3, 2009 4:36 PM in response to Closing Bell: Gentrification Indicators

seriously people. you guys are complaining about food in bodegas? I have to spend time on the nicest area of the Upper East Side for work and you can find as much soda and utz chips as any fat ass can eat there.

dont worry.

but I guess thats what you people do.

Posted by: Santa at November 3, 2009 4:34 PM in response to Closing Bell: Gentrification Indicators

also gentrifiers work at Bodegas now?

Posted by: Santa at November 3, 2009 4:32 PM in response to Closing Bell: Gentrification Indicators

ha sorry typo- guido.

an young Italian gentleman with sonic hair and tribal tattoos.

also alot of this stuff is just old people complaining about the 21st century.

Posted by: Santa at November 3, 2009 4:31 PM in response to Closing Bell: Gentrification Indicators

only giedos drink Stella

and only white trash drinks diet soda.

so those are both out.

the real answer is "people moving in who have more money than you do"

Posted by: Santa at November 3, 2009 4:16 PM in response to Closing Bell: Gentrification Indicators

I wouldnt say it looks shitty it just looks normal for whats being built around this area.

upscale?

this doesnt scream upscale to me.

"I'm sorry but this is coming from a person whose career choice is to work in Whole Foods, seriously. Just sayin...."

career choice should be used loosely in this sentence. Recession life raft would be a better term.

maybe professionals over 30 that dont like blowing loads of cash on shit they can do themselves use craigslist.

Posted by: Santa at November 3, 2009 1:29 PM in response to Last Week's Biggest Sales

well I make 30k a year thus use craigslist.

W00T!

also any idiot knows which ads are fake and which are real. Does anyone really try to rent apartments with Real Estate Destinations?

Posted by: Santa at November 3, 2009 1:22 PM in response to Last Week's Biggest Sales

im sorry but if you want to find a cheap apartment you have to dig on craigslist. only idiots and rich people go to brokers.

Posted by: Santa at November 3, 2009 1:07 PM in response to Last Week's Biggest Sales

i was just on craigslist and thinking how some of the prices were really cheap looking for park slope.

also most of those window ads are for bullshitters.

Posted by: Santa at November 3, 2009 1:00 PM in response to Last Week's Biggest Sales

It seems like a year or two ago 800sqf floor thrus were 2400 and now depending on if they're one or two bedrooms range around the 2200 range. If they're in awesome shape and have nice stuff in them them more and a yard would bump one up into the 2600ish range if your lucky.

the problem is that most the time the bed rooms are tiny if its a 2bed room.

Posted by: Santa at November 3, 2009 12:44 PM in response to Last Week's Biggest Sales

ive lived in two apartments in prospect heights which were both closer to flatbush. The first was on st. marks and was more than double the size of this place and it was $3200 and the current is on bergen and its similar but bigger with a larger kitchen for $2100.

why would I want to buy this place when I can rent for so much less?

haha

lala land.

its a fucking grocery store. They wouldn't pay you 8 bucks an hour if you knew everything there was to know about onions. Don't expect your stupid inflated income to translate.

so don't get too happy and think you're the poorest person on here.

the veggie pattie at Christies is better than their beef. Also the bbq chicken pattie at Lil Miss Muffin and her Stuffin (that might be the name) is waaay better than anything at christies. However the coco bread at christies is mindblowing.

I got a job in the high upper west side (96th st)and have to drive to into harlem sometimes and I was surprised at how nice and swanky all the new buildings are. While most have alot of glass they are sleek and have nice lobbies and overall seem expensive. This is in stark contrast to 4th ave which everything new is ugly and cheap looking.

this place looks like a holiday inn.

Posted by: Santa at October 14, 2009 8:51 AM in response to Development Watch: 433 3rd Avenue, Now and Later

if you're feeling happy the bodega on 9th and 4th ave has 3 dollar OE 40's

Posted by: Santa at October 8, 2009 11:30 AM in response to StreetLevel: New 4th Avenue Bar On Tap

bxgrl2, I can understand that. Even the less than desirable areas have very lively street life. I wasn't here in the 80's so I cant relate to the emptiness but Bed Stuy and Crown Heights are always packed with people during the day. I guess I was asking more along the lines of the working class nature of the areas.

Posted by: Santa at October 5, 2009 11:55 AM in response to Boerum Hill: In a Nutshell

would it be correct to say that many areas of Bed Stuy and crown heights have a similar feel that Boerum Hill did 20 years ago?

Posted by: Santa at October 5, 2009 11:30 AM in response to Boerum Hill: In a Nutshell

anyone read Clockers?

Posted by: Santa at October 5, 2009 11:03 AM in response to Boerum Hill: In a Nutshell

pete, there's a place on 5th ave and degraw (around there) that repairs appliances. The outside is yellow.

also there might not have been Hannah Montana but ABBA was going strong.

Posted by: Santa at October 5, 2009 10:55 AM in response to Boerum Hill: In a Nutshell

Robs ranting is getting tired. There are plenty of areas in this very city that are still shitty and dangerous and even more places around the country that are even shittier.

If you want to leave NYC all together, Philly is only a short drive away and you can hang out with crack heads and hookers till yr dick falls off. You can even by a shitty little row house for 80k.

Posted by: Santa at October 5, 2009 10:47 AM in response to Boerum Hill: In a Nutshell

every deli in this damn city has delicatessens in its name. How is having gourmet any different?

that supper club is in 6th street.

just to take attention away from 7th street.
