New Blog for 34 Crooke Ave.
I wanted to announce a blog I've created for the new building at 34 Crooke Ave. (Just so you know, I asked permission from Brownstoner.com to annouce this here.) The building is still under construction and we are hoping to close this fall. I would invite anyone with news regarding the building or area to email me at:
34crooke@gmail.com
and to visit the blog at:

THANKS!

How to check for new construction condo progress
Seeking advice / input from people experienced with the process of buying a new construction condo: is there a way to verify that work is being done and that inspections have started? When I go to the department of buildings site I can find the construction permits etc. but I don't see where you can find that inspections are under way or scheduled. I was told by the agents that, "inspections have started" but that's all they said - exactly what inspections etc. I have no idea. Everytime since I ask about the building (since March) I am told "two months" and now realize it's just a stock answer. I was by the building again today and saw no signs of any work being done - granted, a small crew COULD be in there working but sure didn't seem like it. In fact, judging from the location and arrangement of supplies in the visible parts of the lobby it didn't look like anything had moved since I was there two weeks ago. I have a feeling that the GC has moved on to another job and left 1 or 2 (or none) workers to finish up. I would think a real crew could finish the whole building in a week, seriously. So my question is: is there anything I can do to verify that work is under way and that the inspection processes are being done?

I'm pretty sure that is a weight (dumbbell), even if it's not too heavy. I have a friend who has collected several antique dumbbells carved from wood that look similar. I think they may have been fashionable for exercise more for the movement and aesthetic rather than to bulk up.

I'll never forget back in the early '90s when I first moved to NY and saw a person pooping publicly for the first time. It is burned in my memory, unfortunately, and is somewhat of a defining moment of me now realizing I live in New York...

It's a kitchen that is done with the finest materials and appliances and looks amazing but if you walk behind it you see that it's all painted onto plywood and being propped up by 2x4s.

"Only cats allow building no dogs, sorry!"
haha - sounds like the cats are in charge there - they ALLOW THE BUILDING! The dogs are powerless, but he does feels bad about that though...
What is a dinning room anyway?

OMG this person is a NUTJOB! What a judgmental, arrogant wacko. And yes, almost all the grades are A's, if this was a class it would be all rocket scientists and brain surgeons. Obviously NOT grading on a curve. I give this jerk an F at being a decent human being. I would freak out if I got something like this.

Of course they are buying property here, duh. The dollar SUCKS and keeps deflating, I can hear the hiss now as I type. A few years ago when I started doing regular trips to Poland the exchange was about 4.5 Zl to $1, now it's like 2 Zl to $1... I WISH I would have just bought Zlotys back then, I would more than double my money.

You're probably right bxgrl, I better be careful walking my dogs late on garbage night. If they catch a rat, I may become a "local news" and then who knows...even PETA may get involved!!! ;)

SamHall,
Point taken and agreed, responsibility is key. I've owned five pitbulls and had no issues with any of them, but I have also seen many dangerous pitbulls, that I myself would be afraid of and would not want to see roaming off a leash. It is all about responsibility.

Well new2hood, they probably don't look like pitbulls to you because I don't wrap tow chains around their necks and make them run the tread mill to pump up. They certainly aren't poodles!

nice pet family, love that cat's coat!
now that they're banning pits and other big dogs from the projects, i suspect the local shelters will see a big influx. sucks.

I used to think this too - that pitbulls were the same as any other dog and that it was the owners blah blah blah but 10 years of owning a dog in the Lower East Side and a decade of going to the Tompkins Square Dog Run changed my mind. Although there are some nice pits, I do think they are a more aggressive breed and far more prone to attacking and fighting. I am far more cautious around pitbulls, period. Every tragic incident I saw over this time (tragic being defined as the loss of dog and / or human blood) not only involved a pitbull but was invariably instigated by one. I think this is like the NRA fanatics that say "guns don't kill people, people kill people" - well, yeah people do kill people and if they have a gun it makes the job a lot easier, faster, more impulsive and accessible. Pitbulls are dangerous and so are handguns. I have no problem with people owning either as long as they are responsible...
