structural engineer recomendation?
hi,
my husband and i are looking demo some walls in our park slope brownstone in order to make a duplex out of two apartments, but the contractor recomends we have a structural engineer look at it to see how we deal with the load bearing issue. Can anyone recomend an engineer that they've actually worked with and feel that they are professional, reliable and knowledgable about brownstones? thanks for your help.

I hear that he is an *excellent* architect whose prowess has long been touted here on Brownstoner....

Does Sam Fradkoff really exist? Or is reference to this name an insider's joke on this blog? He is so frequently mentioned here (good and bad).
If he does exist, please someone provide is contact info, as I'd consider consulting him, as I too am looking for an architect. I googled the name, but nothing of use came up.

I hear "he was fishing off the coast of New York, and had a giant tuna on the line. When he tried to pull it in the tuna made a run for it, all the way to the coast of Spain, dragging him after it, still grasping the pole. A 25 foot great white, drawn to the commotion, swallowed him whole. Reached for comment, he said 'It's true. The shark got me. Tell the cops. Gotta run.'"

Dude, relax! That link only proves that you have a case against Fradkoff. It doesn't prove that you won.

yes, but checking the government wesite re licensure does prove fradkoff is not licensed to practice architecture but in his own website he describes himself as an "architectural designer", a title prohibeted by law to those not licensed to practise architecture. so whatever the outcome of samuels v fradkoff, there's a problem those looking to hire should know about.
