New Store on Fulton

Walked by Elaa Juice Bar on Fulton Ave (next to Follicies) and noticed a bunch of workers in there. There is a tiny sign on the window that reads a new cosmetics store is opening in it's place.

This is great news!

I disagree "boerumite", I believe the competition to rent a luxury building is more crowded then to own. Besides I just read that Be has some new German owners looking to start selling again in '10.

If and when all these rentals fill up we will be comparing Dobro to Murray Hill.

This is huge! This news will steamroll the project and talks of Lebron are around the corner! Particularly how Lebron wants to be a billionaire, and the potential of being the global face of basketball must have him salivating.

Posted by: ReMiXxd at September 23, 2009 2:54 PM in response to Nets Will Have New Owner; FCR Will Have New AY Partner

Really? The majority of the episode was filmed in Manhattan. Only 3 scenes in Brooklyn in this go. The opening scene with his girlfriend moving out. He lives above a black family. Then he goes to Smooch and has coffee with his friend. Ever been to Smooch? the demographic portrayed for that store was accurate the first time around, and comedic the next. BTW look behind the strollers and find a totally mixed crowd of mom's and nannies.

Next time watch the show in it's entirety before making the typical (that's not real) comments.

A chance to step away and meet with the DDDB

or

A hip up and coming firm to add "World class stadium" to their growing portfolio.

What would you pick?

Posted by: ReMiXxd at September 14, 2009 4:18 PM in response to Closing Bell: DDDB's Letter to SHoP

The statements of it looking like a grill, or spaceship are stupid. When will you be in a helicopter and fly into Brooklyn at that angle to see the stadium in that way. The straight on and underneath the awning views are what locals and visitors will see.

Posted by: ReMiXxd at September 10, 2009 11:41 AM in response to Ourousoff Weighs In On Barclay's Center Design

Tax payer dollars get misused everyday in hundreds if not thousands of different ways.

Injecting 18,000 people into an underdeveloped area in the DDDB's opinion doesn't aid the community in any way? The optimistic chance that even half that crowd nightly gets hungry or wants to celebrate with a drink after the game should be a boon to the local economy.

As for the traffic, If Manhattan can close off Broadway at 42nd street, why wouldn't brooklyn be able to handle more flow?

This affordable housing thing is becoming a broken record. The stadium will bring more development. There are too many amenities surrounding this area for affordable housing to be front and center. luxury Rentals are the only thing that is worth building right now. Even the Ingersol houses are slowly emptying, StuyTown anyone? Affordable housing should not have such a luxury as to be near so many trains. Take a bus to the train or rent in a brownstone or flipped condo.

Make Downtown BK a real Downtown!

Posted by: ReMiXxd at September 9, 2009 4:17 PM in response to New Barclay's Center Design Revealed

It has a unique facade that will put it on the map. It's not glassy and gaudy like a Gehry design. It will not dominate or disrupt the skyline.

Bottom line, this is the best rendering and concept for the stadium to date.

With a only a few months left to stick a shovel in the ground this is it.

Love it or loath it, it will outlast you, so get used to it.

I agree these prices are insane, but with 3 colleges including NYU/POLY in walking distance I don't see a problem with them being filled up.

The construction in front of the bank is public improvement, as is the whole Fulton Mall streetscape, and not part of the Citypoint site.

Posted by: ReMiXxd at July 30, 2009 11:07 AM in response to City Point: Half Now, Half Later

Makes sense. Especially with the renovation of the Fulton mall.

Posted by: ReMiXxd at July 30, 2009 10:18 AM in response to City Point: Half Now, Half Later

Is this the fall back location being that they pulled out of the dollar dream space on Fulton? Or was this location always planned?

Posted by: ReMiXxd at July 9, 2009 11:24 AM in response to Union Market Coming to Court Street!

Oh well, I guess a stadium is all we will get. At least the 20,000 people attending events will spark a flood of bars and Easy on the wallet eats.

Posted by: ReMiXxd at June 10, 2009 12:03 PM in response to More Renderings of New Arena Design

It won't bring non stadium goers to Brooklyn to see it, but it will suffice as a home to entertainment. Besides, supposedly Gehry is still attached to the housing, so there is still a slight glimmer of hope for high end architecture.

Posted by: ReMiXxd at June 10, 2009 11:14 AM in response to More Renderings of New Arena Design

see ya

Posted by: ReMiXxd at June 5, 2009 11:17 AM in response to Gehry Officially Off Yards Project

100% agree.

Although the rendering is kinda weird with all that stuff in the foreground, the article compares the design to Conesco Fieldhouse which isn't so terrible. It's not going to dazzle, but isn't an eyesore either.

I walked passes the store the other day while they were stocking up. run of the mill Marcal toilet paper and floor to ceiling socks. At the very least this dollar store could have been more the like of a Dollar tree or Dollar general. Sad.

Posted by: ReMiXxd at May 21, 2009 1:01 PM in response to 80 Dekalb Tops Out

All three of the ones I mentioned in the first post were meant as rentals from inception. As for what your saying about the condo market, I'd rather have put money money in NY real estate over any stock or 401k investment.

Posted by: ReMiXxd at May 21, 2009 11:25 AM in response to 80 Dekalb Tops Out

Dekalb, Livingston or Avalon, should be interesting to see which of these big rentals, (reasonably in the same location) will fill up first?

Posted by: ReMiXxd at May 21, 2009 10:38 AM in response to 80 Dekalb Tops Out

If Fort Greene needs a 99cents store why not put it in Fort Greene? This location is zoned as the developing BAM cultural district. Residents need dollar stores, meanwhile the closest ones are in luxury condos. Not to mention that in about 2 years the Strand Theater and TFANA will be more of a reason why this space should have held out for a proper tenant. Hopefully the lease on this dollar store is short, so it can be bumped out when the economy picks up.

Posted by: ReMiXxd at May 18, 2009 10:44 PM in response to Streetlevel: Former Dollar Store to Become...a Dollar Store

Right, so hundreds of people exiting the Harvey theater will get great use out of this dollar store? Might as well stick a bodega under Forte' while you're at it.

Posted by: ReMiXxd at May 8, 2009 3:06 PM in response to Catsimatidis Talks 202 Myrtle

I was at this meeting. The hiatus for this project only means that that shell of a liquor store will remain there even longer.

On a positive note, renderings and schematics for the Strand theatre were on full display. The front space that is cemented over will be all glass with an inside/outside feel with works from the glass blowing studio on display. As well as news of a street scape project for Ashland place, btwn Fulton and Hanson. The ideas presented were 1/2 spaced one sided cobra lighting on the east side of the street and cemented manhole rings creating a pattern in front of each attraction.

Unfortunately the Grand Plaza and arts plaza in front of TFANA are directly linked to the buildings so are delayed until construction begins.

I feel they are trying to create the success of the Third st Promenade in Santa Monica

I've been there, it's really nice. There are street performers everywhere. The street itself is closed off to traffic which I believe will need to be done on Fulton to really create a change.

Whats up with the sidewalk at the intersection? The cones in the street extend the walkable area on that corner a good ten-15 feet. Is there any chance the sidewalk will get built up to give the owners more outdoor space for seating?

I was looking forward to seeing the all glass Gehry buildings, but this new design makes more sense. Honestly I'd hate to say it, but this brownstone looking design works better with the surrounding Parkslope/Fort greene neighborhoods.

EEk 11217, I'm not biased toward any new building. Like onevalianteffort posts, I also think that anything to boost Brooklyn is a plus.

Sadly your opinions are tainted in your love of your new purchase. Congrats! Your biased makes your comments even more petty.

Toren, Oro, Forte', Hanson Place etc will all double in value once BAM, Barclays, CityPoint and the likes are built. When someone buys a property it is because THEY like it. If they are looking for a flip then in THEIR opinion it is worth it.

Posted by: ReMiXxd at August 27, 2008 12:17 PM in response to Closing Bell: Top of the Toren

Agreed with Zinka. The amenities of Toren are great, but are segregating. The true amenity of the building is it's height above the lower buildings. But alas, this will only be for the duplex and higher unit owners.

Based on the DBPartnership BAM map it looks like this building is set back on the land with some open space in front of it.

http://www.dbpartnership.org/lookingahead/bamcd/

At the corner of lafayette and Flatbush next to the Mark Morris dance center seems to be a nearly completed public park/open space. It has a winding path that may wrap around what seems to be a fountain? Does any one know any more info?

In particular, I am interested in what the renderings of the Grand Plaza will look like.

Posted by: ReMiXxd at August 22, 2008 9:28 AM in response to Gehry Ousted as BAM Theater Architect

About a third of the Forte building is occupied. Though prices have slipped, it is still more expensive then most of the condos over on Flatbush. There is an open house with a tiki bar on the roof deck every wednesday. Worth a look, even if it's only to se the view from up there.
