Creaking wood floors
Anyone have any ideas as to how to remedy creaking, groaning, 90 plus year old floor boards? Our loft only squeaks and creaks horribly in certain spots (of course right outside of sleeping children's rooms is one of worst offending areas!) but it is a real pain. We've heard that the way to fix is by locating the boards below - crawl space - which we do not have.
And does talcum powder actually work? Or make it worse...
Thank you in advance!

Ack* The south Elliott Place house is horrific inside. Ultra-staged in ultra high gloss white for what... are they anticipating what they imagine to be the taste of rich, hipster Tribecca parents? The St. Felix place looks good, but not sure about that block. And the Sterling Place home, we've seen. Nice enough inside, but no backyard to speak of and a really uninspired block. It just doesn't have a 3 million location. No way.

The What, what's up? Chin up buttercup. Nothing north of 3!

2:22, It does appear that the house has much potential. Many details intact, those that are not appear salvageable. Don't know much about that area, so can't really add to the question as to its seemingly low price. Love the welcome. Harmony.

Just to do my part in pushing this thread along toward 200 (I recall someone offering something tasty?) I'd like to address 10:02's questions about what we all think. For me:
Sterling Place: Nice house, nice woodwork, tiny backyard and less than so-so block. Just wasn't diggin on it. And for 3 mill., you simply must love the block.
South Elliott Place: Plan to see it Sunday. I recall that the block is quite nice. Charming, leafy, close to park etc. Hate, hate, hate the apparent flip job done with its innards. Reminds me of a glossy white store window display. Or someone's bad idea of hipster taste. No earthly idea about the backyard. Is there a backyard?
St. Felix: Again, plan to take a looksie Sunday, but not holding breath. Don't believe the block will be for us. Too close to AY and One Hanson, Flatbush, traffic, malls etc. Certainly seems to be on the very edge of Ft. Greene's charms.
Madison St: No opinion. Apologies.

Seriously, is that the Bada Bing? I recognize the parking lot from that incredibly disturbing episode in which the prostitute/stripper/gumah of Paulie, (I think) is beaten to death and her murder is quickly covered up. Is that where it was filmed?

Well, it is official. Didn't think it could happen, but this was the most depressing and infuriating string of male thought I've ever encountered. Two kids, thinking about a third, love my husband and love my body. Love sex, and sex with him. Trust him. Completely. Had never really contemplated the idea that my body was now like *ahem* dipping one's equipment into water. And now - to quote an old romantic movie (When Harry Met Sally) its out there. Just hanging out there, and you can't take it back. Thanks a lot guys. Thanks a Fuckin' lot. I kind of hate you all right now.
with the exception of Kuroko, of course.
So go ahead. Rip away. Let me know how naive and ridiculous I and other women who love children AND our husbands have been. Assholes.

Oh my God I actually spit out my coffee when I read the Scooby Doo comment! LOL. It does look like the house on Scooby Doo. Having a four year old helps with that reference too.
Anyway, we were told to look at this place by a broker we've been working with and who didn't seem to know that it'd been on the market for MONTHS already. We'd already walked past several times and nixed it. The main thing detracting from its feasibility (aside from being about 3 hundy over priced and a huge mess/potential money pit) is that it is smack up against a large apt. building which blocks sun and views from front windows. It just looks funny and wedged in there. Really a shame. There is a gorgeous mansion on Clinton Avenue that reminds us of this one, but which has room to breath on both sides and in front. Oh well.

Oh Jesus CHRIST! Enough with the unbearable inanity of the 5:09ers and 4:36ers. Stop with the baby and mom bashing already. It is truly absurd, particularly when we're speaking about a fucking flea market. Get yourself a therapist and cease with the endless, hate-filled and tired projections.
Nice job on the flea. And I think Steve of Gowanus (10:17) had an excellent suggestion regarding a consignment booth. Surprised no one has commented on it yet. Many people are clueless when it comes to selling anything on ebay and this could be a great option.

I was thinking the same thing as 2:46 with regard to layout. Hmmmm. Why does the spiral make the heights different from front to back? Sounds undo-able.
The picks this week are uninspiring. I was hoping for 129 Prospect Place, which has an open house this weekend. Anyone know anything about it?
