The patio at the PS location is nice but the food has been pretty lackluster the times I've eaten there or ordered in. The falafel is weirdly bready, almost like a hush puppy. Zaytoon's is definitely tastier and a better value.
MsBrooklyn wrote a review about Rice on February 4, 2009 12:08 PM
One of my favorite places; reasonably priced and delicious, and good for a mixed omni/vegetarian group. I just wish they would open one that delivers to PH.
Did anyone watch the first episode? I clean forgot about it.

For the last few years I've gone to Sandy at the Irene Dinov Aveda salon on Montague street. I can't compare to top-notch Manhattan salons b/c I'm too cheap to have ever gone to one but my hair has never looked better even when I let many months elapse between cuts. 718-855-5900

I moved near GAP in 2007 after a few years on Pierrepont Street and the extra ~10 minutes commuting each way (and having to switch trains) is definitely a drag and there are a lot of great things about BH (promenade, pick-up distance from Grimaldi's, etc.), but restaurants are much better in PS and the park is awfully nice. If you're close to the B/Q and 2/3 in PS I'd be equally inclined toward either neighborhood, but the farther you get from those trains the better BH looks. Just my 2 cents.

I believe that the conforming limit went up as of Jan. 1 in high-price areas (I was told 725k for 11238), but this class is still treated by banks as "jumbo conforming" and rates won't be as low as for conforming mortgages below the FNMA limit of 417k. Sadly (for me at least) the change does not affect coops and 417k remains the threshold. I am thinking about refinancing with a conforming loan at that amount and taking a home equity loan for $50,000 or something since rates are getting really low.

God, how I wish Caracas were coming to my neighborhood. I think that might be the best restaurant in NYC.

I went to this and had a great time. Lots of neat stuff and very good prices.

I voted at PS 9 in PH. I got there around 6:30 thinking it would be quick and painless but the line was around the corner and down the block. It moved quickly until we got inside and then it was pretty chaotic with everyone trying to cram in and get into the right lines. Took about an hour overall. I knew I'd be too lazy to go after work but I sure am sleepy now.

If I'm not mistaken Verizon closed a smaller location across the street so this isn't a net increase in cell phone stores, even if it's a decrease in antique stores.

MsBrooklyn wrote a review about Junior's on September 19, 2008 12:34 PM
I wanted to like this place but, outside of the egg cream, I didn't enjoy any of the food. Then again, I probably shouldn't have expected veg-friendliness. I do always feel cheered up when cruising by their old-school blinky sign after working late.
MsBrooklyn wrote a review about Noodle Pudding on September 4, 2008 1:25 PM
This may be the most lovable restaurant in New York. The food is terrific, prices are quite low (try the $12 bottle of montepulciano!) and the staff and ambiance are warm and inviting. The only real downside is that it's almost always crowded but if you go early or late the wait isn't bad.
MsBrooklyn wrote a review about Flatbush Farm on July 31, 2008 2:37 PM
I love the look of this place, and the times I've eaten there the service has been spacey but endearing. Other than the tofu scramble though, the veg options are few and far between (especially at dinner) so it's never going to be one of my top choices.
MsBrooklyn wrote a review about Franny's on July 28, 2008 12:33 PM
The food's about as good as it gets IMO and they have great cocktails and beer. Yes it's expensive, but as an occasional treat I've found it to be well worth it. I've always had good service but tend to visit during off-periods since they don't take reservations.
MsBrooklyn wrote a review about Habana Outpost on July 15, 2008 12:42 PM
I love that they have soy hot dogs but I'm not crazy about the frozen drinks. Beer is a good deal at $2.50 though and the place is very fun. I was there on Sunday night for the outdoor movie screening (another plus) and it was packed with good-looking young people.
YAY! I sure hope this is true.

I expected myself to pick the Belltel option but with a serious shortage of windows and closets that unit's not looking so hot.

I used Aura in my living room (I think it was closer to $60 a gallon if memory serves) and aside from its causing no lightheadedness it only took one coat and looks great so it was definitely worth it IMO.

Check your lease and make sure it doesn't provide that the landlord can terminate upon sale or something like that.

Great location, although it's hard not to chuckle at "Apartment needs complete renovation. WELCOME HOME.". Maintenance is high to boot.

Would also recommend PH (although I'm a bit biased as I live there); still walkable to the C train but you also have the 2/3 and the Q/B nearby.

How about this place? No dedicated parking but I live in the area and see open spots more often than one would expect.

it's worth mentioning that although I've not been able to set something up in advance with Arecibo, they have always arrived within 10 minutes of my call, even early in the morning.
Posted by: MsBrooklyn at December 12, 2007 2:06 PM in response to Need RELIABLE car service in Prospect Lefferts Garden
I've had good experiences with Arecibo but it seems you can't really set something up with them in advance so that might not be ideal. You may want to ask/check on the Brooklynian boards as car services are a hot topic there. Good luck!

I also saw 647-649 some months ago and agree that they were just OK; the backyards are split up in a really silly way such that a second-floor unit walks down the back stairs and through a narrow fenced corridor to its little wood-chip-filled plot abutting the auto shop next door. The units are smallish but I liked the keyed elevator entry.
I do somewhat think that Bergen Basin should change its name to something that doesn't evoke "bargain basement," but I guess that's not overly relevant.

It's so nice to see something other than another realtor or bank. The Housing Works in particular is a great addition... now they just need some more decent restaurants.
