The portions are tiny. We ordered sandwiches/salads and were told that the kitchen was backed up and it would take a little longer for our meals to arrive. It was two o'clock on a Sat. afternoon, and the restaurant was about half full. The simple order to about 45 minutes for them to fulfill. No discount offered (though they offered a discount to our neighbors - did they ask, we don't know). I could have gone to the corner deli and ordered a sandwich and got it in 3 min., and it would have been larger, and probably better. The ice cream is incredible - thus the two for food.

Excellent pizza. Love the BYOB policy! Get there early (i.e. before 6 for the 6:00 seating). I agree with an above commenter, I wish they had more options - even just in toppings. Sausage would be great, but has never been an offered topping in my several visits.

This review can match my other comments about Brooklyn restaurants in general. No matter how many tables are available, or people are waiting, it seems that there is still a wait for a table. I showed up with a party of three, and despite seeing many available (legitimate four seat tables), the host kept on seating parties of four ahead of our party of three. Also, to be told there is a half hour wait with five tables that are totally empty is really bazarre. In the both times I have been there (for brunch) our waitress was totally hungover and did not want to be there. The food was good, but brunch can be better at other places.

The food is excellent! The wine list is also good. A little pricey, and again, typical mediocre Brooklyn service. I agree with an earlier poster - go on a slow night, and go earlier for better service.

I have only tried this place once, and I would like to go more, because it is in a great location! I got the burger, which was just standard for being $16. Also, I sat at the bar, and received horrible service, esp. since the bartender was standing in front of me most of the time. Finally, a roach appeared on the bar next to our burgers, and when we told them, the bartender seemed non-chalant and tried to kill the roach (unsuccessfully, as it dropped to the floor and disappeared). We received no sympathy or offer of a discount. I know roachs are typical in restaurants - I used to work with one - but to receive no apology or awknoledgment that it was at least a gross situation seemed like bad customer service.

The reviews about sum this place up for me. I agree withe DIBS, they make a terrible speghetti carbonara. Otherwise, the food has been very good. The mozzerella is incredible, and the drinks are strong. Good wine and good service!

Great prices and good consistent food. Also, excellent wind! CASH ONLY!
I won't wait for a table at any restaurant, so I only go here when there is no wait - which is not often. Also, they are always out of the tomato mozzarella salad - at least the four times I've asked for it. Good dishes include the roast chicken, and any of the pastas - esp. the gnocci!! Another warning, this place is loud and attracts many neighborhood children. Go later to avoid them, and don't take anyone who is hearing impaired.

I have been to this place twice since it opened. All the food I have tried has been excellent! I LOVE the Guinness Cake. The cheese plate is also wonderful. The raved about chicken was good too. I have always gone here on quiet evenings, and have never had to wait for a table. The service is a little slow - as I find with all restaurants in Brooklyn in general. I liked the bug spray they kept for customers in the back yard (deet and no deet!). Both times I have gone, the wine has not been that great. The best I've tried so far was the Prosecca, and that came in much better glasses than the other wine (which are small and looked they were picked up at a dump boutique). All in all, enjoy the food and chuckle at the hipster atmosphere!
Fascinating!

Babakanoush (sp?) at Sahadi's is fantastic.
Anything at Sahadi's back prepared foods area is amazing and inexpensive.

Read "Fortress of Solitude" by Jonathan Lathem (sp.), who writes about growing up in this neighborhood. Very similar expierence.

I saw this house in the Brooklyn Heights House Tour a few years ago. It is a beautiful house, definitely for someone who is looking for a unique housing option. The house is pretty small, and has NO closet space, and still seems drafty, but is still pretty amazing, beautifully redone, and has an amazing backyard.

This is my absolute favorite place to go! Sometimes crowded, and then that is when the service becomes iffy.

I viewed these about a month ago. I agree with broadwayron.
Also, the closets were practially nonexistant - a two foot depth "Linen closet" in the kitchen, an little slight "groove" with a rod that is supposed to be a closet in the bedroom. Do people not own stuff anymore? These apartments must be going to single dudes who don't want to look too hard for a place, because there are better ones out there, with a lot more closet space and less expensive.
Appliences are nice though.

I have been there on Friday afternoon's after work because it opens earlier than other places. The food is awful, I only order the corn in order to get a table (2.99, decent and can fill up the empty place in my stomach before drinks). Once, we went in winter and it was freezing, and we were sitting by the fire - which was nice, but the staff refused to close the door because they were afraid of losing more customers. How about putting a big sign out front saying - "We Are Open." With those rat stories - I am never going back, never.

Bonnie's is one of the best bargains on 5th Avenue. I love sitting at the counter. I'll echo the commenter above and say, I don't know why the model isn't copied more.
Molly wrote a review about ChipShop on July 28, 2008 1:52 PM
Always slightly disappointed and I don't know why. The vibe of the place just doesn't hit the right note. Also, I can never eat a full serving of whatever they serve, and so I never go. But, if you are looking for authenticity as far as food - you can't get any better!
Molly wrote a review about Franny's on July 28, 2008 1:48 PM
Way hyped. The food is good, but not for what you are paying. Also, like I find with a lot of Brooklyn restaurants, they are unable to organize when they find themselves crowded - no organized list of who is waiting and slow turnover of tables (i.e. lots of unbussed tables and people waiting). As a former hostess at a chain restaurant (I realize not the same thing, but they can be learned from) - my manager would have been very upset.

There is no place to hang your handbag in the eco bathroom (which by the way - are there inside bathrooms in case of rain?) I lodged it somewhere in the tiny stall and it fell on the ground (ewwww).

Worst flight of wine I've ever had. I think that the wine was skunked...at least I hope. I ordered the Welsh Rabbit - soggy. The cheese plate was good.
The service was slow, and there was hardly anyone there. Not returning anytime soon.
