Wow.....you have a great memory! If I may chime in.......Downtown Brooklyn was the shopping destination for all Brooklynites.......this was before the "malling" of Brooklyn. It was always exciting to exit the subway @ DeKalb Avenue and race up the block to shop at May's! If my mother had a little bit more money that day, we'd also go to A&S and perhaps have dinner at Junior's. That was a real treat!
My favorite hang-out in the mid to late '70's, though was The Rollerdome on Empire Blvd. Fabulous disco music, slick wooden floor and we all had huge hair and even bigger platform shoes......that goes for the guys and girls. So fun.

Hi......I'm new to posting, but I've been following this blog for a few months. I saw a brownstone at 165 Pulaski Street (cross street is Throop), asking $649K. I'm not familiar with this area of Bed Stuy. Any input is appreciated. Thanks much!

I recently took a long walk through PLG to explore the possibility of purchasing a home there. I hadn't been there since I was a child in the 1960's visiting my parents' doctors. I immensely enjoyed appreciating the classic architecture and I was not at a loss to find people who would helpfully give me directions. It is certainly a neighborhood that I would want to throw my arms around and hug. That being said, it is probably out of my price range, so my search for another property will continue......perhaps Clinton Hill, Bed Stuy or Crown Heights? I am new to posting here and I hope to continue to do so.........gleaning info and insight from the regular posters who are lovers of our wonderful Brooklyn!

Sigh.......love the PLG and WT homes.I think I'm priced out of the Brooklyn RE market. I can't even afford to purchase my current Brooklyn home. I still love my boro, but does the boro love me anymore? Perhaps it's time to look at greener pastures out east and find a lovely little relic there.
