Kngsway Exterminating Company deals with many city contracts and has been in business for several years - here is their website - http://www.kingswayexterminating.com/Default.asp?cookiecheck=yes&

I would at least call for an estimate?

LisaTheCityPlanner wrote a review about Sancho's on January 14, 2010 2:02 PM

Sancho's is one of my favorite places in Bay Ridge. Sancho's has the best paella I have ever had, but more importantly, this place is always consistent. My family has been going there for well over a decade and we have yet to have a bad meal there. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. The paella and veal extremena are superb!

The new edition was done with (I believe) the head of Harvard's Graduate School of Design. There was an interesting article in the NY Times earlier this year (or maybe even last year) about the process to complete the 5th edition and the vast differences (especially in Brooklyn!) that have taken place between the editions! It is definitely worth looking up!

I've been here for dinner...once. A group of four, none of us were too impressed with our selections. In my opinion, the food is overrated and there are much better restaurants in the neighborhood to patron. Definitely not the place to go for a quiet, intimate night out. I believe it works better as a bar/lounge than a restaurant.

LisaTheCityPlanner wrote a review about Hinsch's Confectionery on December 9, 2009 12:10 PM

I used to go here when I was little all the time - great memories. A great mainstay of Bay Ridge. The ice cream sodas (black and whites) are fantastic. Even today, twenty-five years later, I still go back to Hinsch with my mom for the ice cream sodas when in the area.

Just saw the news piece on this on NBC at 11 PM, as dirty hipster references.

Last time I checked, it was legal to move to whatever neighborhood you so choose and also legal to ride bicycles in PUBLIC CITY STREETS. "Hipster Vigilantes" - keep on riding your bikes, sans lanes or not. It isn't against the law.

Minard is correct - the Lott House was almost lost. I am aware of a prospective developer wanting to buy the whole site to construct....UGH...condos. It is a HUGE site.

Were there any other threats I am not aware of?

As always Montrose, fabulous and insightful article! Can't wait for the rest of them!

My suggestion - continue to ride your bikes on the street as if the lanes were there. There is no law saying cyclists can't ride their bikes in the street. Well, not yet anyways...

HYPOCRISY ALERT: The City/DOT has poured tons of money and manpower into bicycle lanes/parking/etc - and now they are REMOVING lanes? Doesn't this contradict their goal?

In my opinion, CONTEXTUAL ZONING/REZONINGS as well as CONTEXTUAL DESIGN needs to be redefined. Beautiful neighborhoods are being ruined by builders posing as skilled architects, erecting heinous buildings that threaten the character of a neighborhood.

Much like Joe from Brooklyn, I don't live in an "architecturally historic" neighborhood - not Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, Fort Greene. In fact, my neighborhood is NEVER mentioned on this site, despite Brownstoner's tagline being "Brooklyn Inside and Out" - THIS should be amended to "Trendy Parts of Brooklyn That Only Well-to-Do Non-Native NYers Live In - Inside and Out."

I live in a neighborhood developed in the 1930s/1940s with homes built and designed in a concentrated scheme. As a result, nearly all homes resemble eachother in scale but the design/prototype changes from block to block. My neighborhood has character which is threatened year by year by horrible builders and developers. Sad to say, I think if I were to foreshadow to 20 years, my neighborhood I have called home would be unrecognizable. It's a shame.

Moral of the Story - when developers are erecting PURE CRAP they should be called on it. Long live forums such as this that allow us to do so (even if only certain parts of Brooklyn are featured on here, and others ignored entirely).

Joe from Brooklyn: I agree with your selections! I live in the neighborhood and am a big fan :)

Christ Church by Richard Upjohn in Cobble Hill is a beauty. I also am always mystified by the Masonic Temple on Lafayette Avenue and Clermont in Fort Greene...it is an attractive building with such a secretive past.

The horrendous condominiums built along Emmons Avenue within the past few years are overpriced, hideously designed and mostly empty. Therefore, I don't see how this building will fare. If parts of "trendy" central/northern Brooklyn aren't fetching these prices, Southern Brooklyn sure isn't.

Within certain blocks of Vinegar Hill (especially within the Vinegar Hill Historic District) retail/commercial establishments are prohibited. I believe this blocks is only zoned for residential use. Many of the homes here were originally used for commercial but are now private residences. Thus, VH residents don't have to worry about businesses coming to their blocks.

She has a gift. She was 100% spot on with my boyfriends fortune...he did NOT have pizza for lunch (we had burgers).
