What? Going into Manhattan to get to Williamsburg? Are you daft?

How long before someone starts whining about the type of buildings that are going to go up in their place? You know, the usual bitchin' and complaining. Does anyone want to start a pool?

Consider me done with this thread and this topic.
Nothing but a bunch of whiners and lunatics.
You all need to get over your over inflated sense of self-worth and just get on with it.
Peace. Out.

I wonder if the folks in Bay Ridge complain about the profligation of their neighborhood by Dunkin' Donuts?
Do they complain as much about gentrification or do they just get on with it?

A question for the neighborhood historians - what sort of debate went on when the Clinton Hill Co-Op buildings were initially proposed and then built in the neighborhood?
At the time I'm sure they were viewed as being horribly out of scale for the neighborhood but now they seem to viewed as a housing complex that forms the backbone of the neighborhood.
Just curious.
P.S. Rosie look mighty hot in that outfit. I'll have to look out for in the nabe.

Go to The Bicycle station and talk with Mike.
Order a Jamis Commuter. It's under $300 and comes with 3-years (THREE YEARS!!) of free maintenance. A friend bought one two years ago for his commute from Park Slop into Manhattan.
As for there being "too many frakking bike geeks in spandex terrorizing dogs and children as they whiz around."
Please.
The people who terrorize the neighborhoods are the idiots who ride on the sidewalk like they own it and the complete retards who ride against traffic with their iPod on and no helmet. Bonus points for the ones with the doggy in the front basket. Those folks are dangers themselves and to those around them.

There's already a brilliant bike shop in Fort Greene. It's called The Bicycle Station and they're located at 171 Park Avenue on the corner of Adelphi Avenue.
Of course with it being at the corner of Park & Adelphi that area might be a bit too "sketchy" for some of the regular posters on this blog. But if you're brave enough to venture over you'll find some folks there who are passionate about bikes and who provide excellent repair service at a very reasonable price.

Let's hope the net result is that it's a positive addition to the nabe.
Given the current financial climate I'm quite surprised that they're moving forward with it.

FtGreeneCorey,
Opinions are good. Informed opinions are better.
Cheers!

FtGreeneCorey,
is Oklahoma City now a "major league city"? Is Seattle now less of a city after having lost the Super Sonics? What about Montreal, Quebec after the Expos left? Have the Washington Senators now made our nation's capitol more of a "major league city"?
Brooklyn is a city of neighborhoods. That's what makes it cool. Manhattan is a city of tourist attractions. That's what makes it annoying.
I'll try not to get up too high on my soapbox here but you really should do some real research on the economic impact that professional sports teams have on a local economy. In a nutshell they are not worth the millions or billions of public taxpayer dollars that are poured into them. They're economic impact is negligible, at best.
But what about all those people who will go out for dinner before the game and/or out for drinks after the games? All that is doing is shifting when and where I spend my disposable income. If I give my money to FCR and the concession stands inside the arena I won't have that money to give to the local restaurants and establishments that make Brooklyn the great place to live.
Since FCR, the Nets & Barclays are going to be pocketing all the profits for this venture let them build the arena. If a businessman wants you to take all the risk for a project while he takes all the profits doesn't that tell you something about that venture?

LimestoneKid wrote a review about Maggie Brown on December 17, 2008 4:12 PM
We stopped going two years ago because the service had deteriorated to such a stage that leaving a tip was no longer warranted.
That's a shame because the back yard space was to die for during the spring and summer.
Oddly enough we've found that we could get food faster if we had it delivered than if we were actually in the restaurant.
I contacted the Historic Preservation program at Pratt Institute in order to make them aware of this travesty that is going on right in their back yard.
Who knows what, if anything, they can do but to me it seems like a property that is a prime candidate for landmark status.

Get over yourself will you.
Well said 5:53. LOL
I'm surprised the Rat would want to be that close to the PJ's.

"Just too damn close to those PJ's."
"Um. It's far from the subway."
You people are a joke. A JOKE!
It's farther to the PJs than it is to the subway!
Get a grip people. If you want "nicey nice" move to Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis.

We also received some during the period when the alternate street parking regulations were not supposed to be in effect. We appealed them and they were all overturned. Instead of going through all the hassle of appealing more tickets we simple went back to following the old regulations even though we didn't have to.
It seriously made me wonder whether the people who issue the parking tickets are all part of some great big conspiracy or whether they're all just incompetent. Maybe it's both. I'm sure they were able to collect on a number of the improperly issued tickets.
