When we renovated our kitchen, we just moved the fridge to the living room until the kitchen was done. We just set up the microwave and toaster oven on a table in the living room also.

There was a lot of salads and sandwiches on the menu.

If you have outdoor space you can grill for hot food.

We did the same as jg with the addition of a hotpot. We ate a lot of pasta.

Our appliances were in our dining room for the first four months when we moved in, last fall. Only the fridge was plugged in, we were dunces and didn't think to plug in the micro. Anyway, Fresh Direct prepared stuff was a lifesaver, salads, pasta salads, wraps, etc.

In our case we were toying with the idea of moving our fridge, but in this case it would have to move up two flights of stairs. It is a big GE profile fridge and I am just not sure it is worth it.

Eventually the fridge does end up moving into the basement as a secondary.

Has anyone ever taken out their microwave that is built in and used that on a table? Is that even possible? If so, far superior to my buying a new table stop one - love to avoid if I could help it.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

You could use an actual camping stove (propane) and/or a hibachi and cook outdoors. That's what an old friend of mine did for a few months in the summer when he renovated his kitchen. He moved the fridge outside and plugged it in through the basement or a window or something with an extension cord. Security wasn't much of an issue though in his location.
