Looking for Rental Broker Recommendations

I'm looking for a large one-bedroom or 2-bedroom apartment in the Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill area. Moving in November or December (so I've got time).

I would greatly appreciate any recommendations for reputable "neighborhood" brokers. Thank you.

mtarch's right. An inspector will take samples of the materials and let you know if they're hot. Most inspectors can prepare the ACP reports required for filing the job with DOB (the Department of Buildings).

If you want to spend the money, I recommend Joe Maffucci at Certified Asbestos Removal Corp. (718) 331-4160 Tel.

Joe's fees are very reasonable and he's quick.

I recommend:

Scott Schnall, P.E.
178 Atlantic Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11208

718.875.2036 T
718.858.7165 F

He's the "Mr. Brooklyn" of expediters. The only catch is he's VERY difficult to get a hold of.

You can just check the building code (online). Why would you want to waste money?

Ethan, unless you relish the snark--and hey, it's you're life--might it not have been more useful to say, "You can just check the building code (online). You might find that you don't need a consultant." You could have tacked on some reference to personal experience and providing the URL for the building code certainly would have been helpful. Have a nice weekend.

The fence height limit is 6'. Your local district Dept. of Sanitation can probably answer your question about trash enclosures, if there are any requirements.

Thanks for the responses - would still like some more recommendations since it may be hard to find someone available. I've downloaded the code and reviewed it and don't trust myself to interpret all the different exceptions and conditions - that's why architects use code consultants - it requires a more thorough knowledge of the codes than most architects want to spend their time on - they'd rather be designing.

I've e-mailed DOS regarding bin enclosures since I couldn't find it referenced anywhere - I hope I get a response and will let the forum know if I do.

If your house is in a landmarked district, you will need LPC permit for trash bin enclosure. See bottom of page 32, Approvals Required for Work: http://www.nyc.gov/html/lpc/downloads/pdf/pubs/workguide.pdf

I can second the recommendation for Certified Asbestos. Recently had to remove some in our basement and found his name on this board and they did a great job. Fast, reasonable and they knew what they were doing.
