dryer vent installation

Can anyone recommend someone to install a dryer vent. Dryer is in the cellar, there is an opening in the wall to back yard. Previous contractor pushed a flimsy foil duct into the hole, the cats tore it out. I need someone to install a rigid sheet metal duct and firmly affix the duct vent to the exterior.

I got my encaustic tiles from Original Style Tile Source. They are manufactured in the UK but the sales office for the US is in South Carolina. David Malk is the rep, very helpful. They do take a long time for delivery.

I just had my first "life-changing" machines installed earlier this year. It is so great, I still laugh out loud when I am doing laundry. Anytime I want to! congratulations.

If those are the jumbo version of cockroaches, like 2" long, they are waterbugs. They are usually attracted to a water source. Could you have a leak or a plumbing drip in this area?

Check out Eddie's at Grand Ave and Greene Ave. He has major old door inventory.

Yes, post sounds very fishy. No one is happy when the contractor leaves the job unfinished to work on another job. I was genuinely confused by "scrapping", thought they were demolishing the fire escape. This sounds like a "Mr Suba" posting.

House flipping is to this decade what day trading was to the '90s. It is a form of gambling. Unless you can afford to lose the money you using to buy and renovate this house you should choose another form of investment. Flipping was viable when house values were skyrocketing on a daily basis. With the current credit crisis and house prices cooling off, you have sort of missed the boat. Don't believe everything you see on TV.

Let's not get off track. The question is about installing an Aga range, not the relative merits of British industrial contributions.
I had the Aga Companion installed about a year ago. My regular plumber hooked up the gas connection. My electician put in a 220 line and I plugged it in. No problems. It comes all put together in a big crate, just open the box and connect. I love it. It is the best range I have ever used. I got mine at Krups Kitchen and Bath on 18th Street in Manhattan. It cost about 3400., which was about 1100. less than the Aga showroom charges.
Don't be afraid of installing the dual fuel Aga.

Yes, I had one for 14 years, no problems. If you have an restaurant quality range creating very high heat maybe not, but for a standard residential range, OK.

I had a very good experience with Key Tile and Stone on Third Ave and (about) 15th Street in Brooklyn. They installed a marble kitchen counter top and tub surround. The pricing was the best I found, too.

Taimur:

It's not that easy. How will you afford to purchase? You need assets and income to get a mortgage. Why would a bank loan you a significant amount of money, especially now that mortgage brokers are being EXTRA careful? How would you even make the mortgage payments? Where will you get the thousands of dollars in closing costs and legal fees?

How will you make the tax payments? Where will you get the money for the remodeling? How will you know who to hire to do the work? How will you know how to facilitate and schedule the process? It's not as easy as calling a plumber and an electrician and buying a new sink!!

It's also a horrible market for sellers right now. How would you even sell a remodeled brownstone when the market is at it's worst and people are having trouble getting mortgages, keeping their jobs, etc? Additionally, are you aware that you will get taxed when you try to sell? There is a "flip tax".

You need to be realistic about what kind of undertaking this is, the gigantic risk and the staggering expense.

The best lesson you can learn is that real estate is a LONG TERM investment. Invest in real estate by buying what you can afford and buying the property you want to live in for many years.

I agree with the others who insinuated that you should stop being so inspired by the flipper-tv shows out there.

Silly question - how do you correctly pronounce "Aga"? I've heard it 3 different ways, none of which from anyone from the UK, just pretentious Americans. Last time I was in London, I was going to ask, but I didn't want to sound like an ignorant Yank, and no one brought it up in conversation.

Is it Awe-ga? like awesome
Ahh-ga?
or ay-ga? long a, like amen

Posted by: Montrose Morris at August 27, 2008 6:05 PM in response to Aga ranges

It's pronounced Ah-Gah, MM. And I am definitely NOT a pretentious American, Aga owner and all! :)

Townhouselady, it was Dittoburg who brought up the Brits and he listed the luxury items they make then indicated Americans make or do nothing of quality. Dittoburg's snobbery is what I was reacting to. Try reading up a little further! Goodness.

Posted by: traditionalmod at August 27, 2008 7:08 PM in response to Aga ranges

This is what Dittoburg said that I responded to, which confused and enraged Townhouselady so much. But CMU's post ended up between Dittoburg's and mine:

"Also CMU, the British gave us Bentleys and Aston Martins, and many of those jet engines that hold you aloft are Rolls Royce. We could say that the US gave the world the Ford Pinto and three mile island. Not really fair tho."
