Computer Hacker

I just want to give everyone the heads up….. Someone hacked into my friends online e-mail account. Using his e-mail address the hacker sent an e-mail to all his contacts stating that he was robbed of all his personal belonging by a taxi driver while on a seminar in England, and asked that he be wired money. I almost fell for it had I had the extra cash to send!

Door Won't Close

A few days ago I wrote about a water leak that transpired from my 2nd floor toilet down to my basement. Well anyway the 1st floor door casing leaked out water from above and seems to have expanded. Now the door won’t close. What recourse should I take? Should I see if I can bang the casing to it’s original position, take off the door plate and see if it would close and it so do a slight wood shaving under the plate and if that doesn’t work have someone shave one side of the door? Does this make any sense? Can you offer any suggestions?

Door Expandsion from Water Leak

Now a new problem..... from the post below (toilet valve.) When the water seeped down from the 2nd to the 1st floor I believe that it traveled between the sheet-rock and the 2 x 4's and I noticed alittle water dripping from the top of the door casing. NOW I just noticed that the door won't close. Could the wood have expanded? Is there anyway to rectify the problem?

Toilet Overflow - Valve Position?

Yesterday I made the mistake of flushing my toilet a second time after it clogged. I wasn’t aware until almost an hour later that the toilet was continuously overflowing. An abundance of water leaked out to the adjoining rooms, through my wooden floors of my 2nd floor and down to the basement. I was amazed how the water traveled in totally different directions throughout the floors. As the water was leaking I panicky turned the shutoff valve in all directions until the overflow stopped, and now don’t know the correct positioning. Presently when I now attempt to flush the toilet it doesn’t flush, but instead it pumps water into the toilet and 10 minutes later the toilet is completely empty. I definitely don’t want a recap of yesterday’s event. What positioning of the valve would correct this problem?

Don't trust him! I know its difficult, but rid yourself of him now. He actually had his license revolted from The Department of Consumer Affairs and is not supposed to be working. His fines are accumulating daily. His establishment will soon be padlocked. If you wish to speak with me further leave your number and I will reach you.

I second Nayci Contracting has being a very deceiving company.I just won a $85,000 judgment against them in Consumer Affairs Court. Sucker1 I would be interested in knowing if you filed any charges against them.

I have an 1875 house that had that problem. When I had my original parquet floors redone the workers just built it up and leveled it, than installed the parquet flooring. What a difference!

That is very surprising! I have dealt with them during my 3 bathroom, kitchen renovation and they were more than accommodating. I constantly brought samples home. I know that they just got a new gentlemen working at their place and I believe that he manly deals with kitchen cabinets, perhaps he's a private contractor renting space. Ask for Jennifer. She can give you wonderful ideas!

thecomputerguy I really don't know much about computers, so when you mentioned that I should start by plugging in a network cable from one of the ports on the back of the netgear to network port on the Pc I'm lost. There are 2 things plugged in the netgear one clip-in in the yellow and another (roundo)?

Do you not think that it's a problem that the opening at the ceiling still exists, and 2 layers of bricks from the floor to the ceiling are missing and only the bricks of my neighbors house separate our homes?

Posted by: Giovanna at March 30, 2009 6:51 AM in response to Unfinished Brick Work

Actually after a huge Noreaster in April 2007 there was a flood through the chimney that came through the opening and down to the 2nd floor. The chimney was then removed.

Posted by: Giovanna at March 29, 2009 7:52 PM in response to Unfinished Brick Work

I'm thinking that it's more than just supporting the top bricks. I'm presuming that the bricks shown in the photo are actually the bricks from my neighbors house, and that I'm missing 2 rows of bricks belong to my house.

I 2nd the recommendation for Joe Salem.

By law 6' is correct, however as long as the neighbors don't complain there's not a problem having a higher fence. All my ajoining neighbors and I have 12'fences. You'll be surprised how many people will actually joy the privacy at your expense. Also if you want a higher fence another option may be to have 6'closed fence and than an extra 2' in open lattice.

They said they will put my name on a list and notify me within a few weeks when they become more familiar with the plan and if I qualify for something else. As far as modification I don't remember hearing that mentioned. What's the difference? I continued with a 30 year fixed rate.

Dear Roman,

Please do not pay another cent and force them to work until the next installment. Once you have accepted the fact that you will loose money and Nayci will not complete the project, you will sleep better. After he abandoned my job, I have founded a wonderful and honest contractor to take over the project. I had interviewed over 15 contractors until I found my current contractor. I would say about 12 of them were crooks or unreliable.

I know what you are going through. You need to stay on top of him to complete as much work as possible from the money that you had paid that Ayan and his bastard son, Matt.

Sincerely,
A.

I read somewhere (bricks and brownstones maybe) that 6th Ave until 4th St is one of the longest most original stretches of "brownstone" streetscapes in NYC. Personally, I think the side streets are more quaint.

Posted by: pmmtenement at November 15, 2009 9:29 AM in response to Need recs for Park Slope tour

I'd walk around the side streets in the North Slope near the park. President, Carroll, Montgomery, etc. Some of the grandest and most interesting architecture in the Slope. And then Third St., toward the park entrance with the mountain lions.

Yeah, 3rd btw 8th and PPW is my favorite.

Posted by: denton at November 15, 2009 9:55 AM in response to Need recs for Park Slope tour

On a block for block basis, the North Slope is definitely a beautiful and compact area for a walking tour of Park Slope. The Brooklyn Historical Society's got this brochure (though parts, like the mention of Henington Press, are outdated): http://brooklynhistory.org/publications/download/BHSParkSlopeGuideTours.pdf
If your walk extends late enough in the day, you'll enjoy the advantage of early nightfall and be able to peak at interiors too. A really great site with photos and other information about Park Slope is: http://www.nyc-architecture.com/PS/PS.htm

Posted by: vinca at November 15, 2009 10:02 AM in response to Need recs for Park Slope tour

Square bounded by Carroll Street, seventh avenue, first street and prospect park. Polhemus/Fiske places. President between 8th and the park. Woodhull mansion and ethical culture society on ppw between 1st and 2nd. Agree with third street and montauk club as well. Maybe the Litchfield villa in the park too.
