Hmmm. . .and to think it's the gesheft area that's most prone to injury if one stops short on a bike. . .well then: There's your irony!

If you think chickens & bikes are a strange combo, I believe I have a topper:

Several years ago, while coming down the steps of the Brighton line Avenue U station, the crowds were treated to the sight of a tiny, very old Asian woman, sitting on a milkcrate.

She was skinning & selling eels to her left-with brassieres for sale to her right. She carried on like it was the most normal thing in the world. I didn't stay long enough to see if anyone bought either product, & never saw her again.

I am NOT making this up, & still can't help but wonder what connection, if any, there could possibly be between these two very different commodities.

Doing lines of denture adhesive powder (on a fully unfurled Depends®) makes for a very unsettling image. . .

What memories. . .

Take a closer look at that old rusted swinging sign: "Adelphi Hall" is what it says, in Old English type, as I recall.

I was a small child when we moved to 201 EP from 392 SJP, a lived there from 1961-1966.

Over the years, I was saddened to see the gradual removal of the wood tudor detailing, as well as the large "artists" type window embedded in the East Wing's roof slope trim, also long gone as you can see in the photo.

I also remember the carved lobby furniture, including 2 throne style chairs my sister & I loved to sit in & play king & queen.

We were in apt 2K, in the courtyard facing Lincoln Place. We also experienced the blackout off 1965 there (just after returning from Guider Park across the street), with my mother bringing candles to an elderly woman down the hall & to one of the infamous "two sisters" who lived next door. My mother was trying to calm down the hysterical sister, convinced her sibling was "was walking the train tracks somewhere".

There were a lot of kids in the building, & we all did our share driving the doorman crazy running in & out of the lobby.

I also remember the mulberry tree in the front, with the squished berries on the sidewalk every year.

My father took plenty of stills & home movies, so we have some great images preserved.

Just loved living in that "castle"!

I can see it already: "The Taking of Robotrain Rock-Park-Eighth", where the train is remotely take over by an irate MTA IT person, who only wants an unlimited Metrocard as part of their compensation package. Watch the L speed out of control at the warp speed of 15MPH!!! Thrill to the [un]surprise ending, as the train stops dead in it's tracks due to budget problems!!! YES!!! A MUST SEE TOUR DE FARCE!!!

The funeral home reference is ironic, considering how the phrase, "I'm so sorry to hear about your loss" can now be applied to real estate these days. . .

In short, a beautiful place to "chill" (any way you choose to define it!)

I can hear the groans already. . .

But they only got their voicemail since both were closed at the time. . .
