Fort Greene clothing donation

Just did some spring cleaning and have a good amount of clothing (as well as a twin mattress, if accepted) that I would like to donate to a nearby facility/charity/church. Does anybody know of anything?

One of my favorite restaurants in BK. Delicious, well-priced seafood, BYOB, beautiful space. Can't go wrong ordering either tartar, the crab chowder, the fried oysters, and bargain basement priced ciopinni! Yummy..

Best sushi in Brooklyn? I don't know, Im a huge fan of Blue Ribbon Sushi. But this give BR a run for it's money with lower prices and its extremely tasty rolls. Plus, the guys behind the sushi bar are pure entertainment!

The obanzai was delicious and creative - especially the pasta salad. Sushi was fair. My boyfriend did not like the pressed sushi, but I thought it was tasty. The hot tofu might have been great, except it needed instruction on how to eat it.

My boyfriend and I went the first Friday after the write-up in the NYT. To our surprise, we were seated right away. The pleasantries ended there. The service was slow and lacked any sort of charm that might come with a small, neighborhood spot. The food wasn't memorable. And the drinks, which all sounded interesting and exciting, tasted anything but.
Wouldn't recommend James, especially considering the bill.

FortGfemme wrote a review about Abistro on January 5, 2009 12:49 PM

Yum! I love the food and the vibe at abistro. The tucked-away nature of the place makes for a more intimate dining affair. The service adds to this quality - super friendly and welcoming. I can't help but the order the trout every time I go. My boyfriend is in the same trap with the Senegalese Fried Chicken. I find that the sauces they whip up for each dish is usually the ultimate "wow" factor.
Can't complain about the BYOB, either.

cobblehiller:
is it on Court Street? Or a side street near Frankie's?
there are some good bars near there.

Any ideas for New Years? I am hoping to find a nice prix-fixe in Fort G, Clinton/Cobble/Boerum Hill, Carroll G, or Park Slope local - that could spill over into drinks at a bar nearby.

The best city pizza I've tried - my other favorites would be Patsy's of Harlem, Denino's, and Lucali's. I like the square pie with artichokes the most, but I'll take anything I can get. The wait can be frustrating, but bring a bottle of wine for your wait, read some of the articles, and make sure to flirt with Dominic! You can't beat the price as far as I'm concerned - whether it be a $4/slice or $28/pie - for the best pizza in the city, it's well worth it.

The food and drinks, in particular, the arepas, ceviches, and the watermelon mojito, are simply wonderful! Each bite is better than the next! In my opinion, the service is a tad lax, though quite friendly. I always wonder why the drinks come out at such a leisurely pace. And, unlike many people who have posted their reviews thus far, I find the decor to be a little off for the neighborhood. Overall, this is a restaurant worth trying out and then returning to again and again. Consistent and delicious!

FortGfemme wrote a review about Blue Ribbon Brooklyn on October 17, 2008 2:20 PM

I have nothing but wonderful service each time I have been here. I do think they are overpriced, but in that "finer dine" way. My boyfriend and I love the crawfish, when they have them. Stay awaaaay from the Oyster Stew - it's more like potato soup with some shellfish garnish.

FortGfemme wrote a review about Olea on October 17, 2008 2:07 PM

I am not impressed by Olea's food. Other than their brunch items, which I would rate as decent, I have never eaten anything delicious or creative. I have been snubbed by the service every time I have been there - either letting people who cam after us sit first because they know some of the waitstaff, or being rude and standoffish during the brunch rush. That being said, I am in love with the space itself - beautiful interiors and a lovely little corner to set up shop!

Great brunch! Other than that, not much to comment on..

FortGfemme wrote a review about Five Front on October 17, 2008 1:57 PM

I went there over a year ago. The food was not memorable in any way. Neither the service. The location, however, is great! An upscale restaurant in DUMBO, a few notches down from The River Cafe, is refreshing.

FortGfemme wrote a review about Al Di La on October 3, 2008 4:14 PM

Sdrubbins: I was comparing the restaurants on the "Best Italian" Zagat survey, as 11217 had brought it up in an earlier post. The "human error by the server" was a big blunder that would not hack it when compared to the other restaurants at the top of this list.

By the way, I prefer Di Fara, Babbo, and Roberto to the beloved Al Di La. Not a fan of Lupa. Never been to La Villa. Looks as though it belongs in a strip mall.

FortGfemme wrote a review about The General Greene on October 3, 2008 12:59 PM

What a lovely neighborhood. Rivaling the Manhattan scene.

Service at the bar, by Nate, is a delight. Table service is not as on point. A little awkward, even.

The mixed drinks are at the top of my list, up there with Brooklyn Social and Macondo in the LES. The Heirloom Tomato Salad is not to be missed. As well as the candied bacon (and I'm not even a meat eater!). Usually any special should be ordered.

I am waiting for additional menu items or a change of menu with a change of season.

Prices are decent. Decor is alright. The crowd is refreshing.

Sounds like brunch is a no go. But I'll see for myself sometime soon.

FortGfemme wrote a review about Al Di La on October 3, 2008 12:44 PM

Actually 11217: Zagat rates three Italian restaurants higher than Al Di La. Deservedly so. Roberto in the Bronx is far superior.
Also: Zagat's ratings are compiled by their editors as well as Zagat members. This leads to "falling prey to local pride and grading on a generous curve."
I'll give you this, 11217: all this done not explain the New York Times review. Which, by the way, was written over two years ago.

VERY overrated. The tables were set up quite close to each other. I felt like I was dining with the couple next to me. The service is lackluster: I ordered the special risotto of the day - very excited about the squid-ink. About half hour after ordering, I was told that they were out of the special. They offered me an alternative of asparagus risotto - which #1: is nothing to compare to calamari and black squid-ink, #2: my boyfriend and I had already eaten an asparagus appetizer. Both our main dishes were nothing better than boring.

I'll give the restaurant kudos for it's fish soup appetizer, which was phenomenal. But, in my opinion, Park Slopers are over-hyping this common, unsensational restaurant.
