Did they have to cut down all those huge trees? I was really pissed when I walked by the other day and they had been removed.
They were at least 40 years old, and provided a lot of shade on that street.

I happened to be in the park with a friend one night quite a few months ago when they were testing the fiber optic 'eternal flame.' They had it running, and it actually looked pretty cool. We walked up to monument and got to chat with some of the workers there. Not sure what happened to the flame over the weekend. Technical glitch?

I agree that the lighting and ambiance of the old orange trains is far superior, but the RIDE on the new trains can't be beat.
Apparently it's computer controlled acceleration and deceleration, so the days of being stuck on a train with a 'jerky' driver (stop, start, stop, start, stop) are gone.

I took my brother there a few weeks after it opened as a celebratory Welcome To New York dinner. Of course, having read the review in NYmag, I was expecting good things.
The service did not disappoint. It was prompt but not overbearing; friendly but not annoyingly so. They did well considering it was completely packed, with a wait. However, the food left a bit to be desired.
For example: I ordered a fresh, local, organic salad and wound up with what reminded me of a handfull of leaves from an Earthbound Farms container. Organic, yes. Fresh and local, seemingly no.
The ambiance could have used a few finishing touches. Loud, inconsistent lighting (like, flickering - I know it sounds petty but it was comically distracting).
I might give it another try, but I probably won't take anyone I'm trying to impress.
Right now's the perfect time to seed. I reworked my back lawn in early spring, mixing in lots of dead leaves from over the winter with starter fertilizer and peat moss. Let it sit for a week, and the started seeding. The problem I ran into was flooding. We had a few storms that inundated my yard with water, and killed all the young grass. I had to plant shade tolerant seed to start with, so it was pretty fragile.
I'm going to try again this weekend and hope for the best. I'd like to have grass, but I have a feeling I should start researching into alternative ground cover that's less labor intensive.

Fight it! They need to change the law. It's not working.

If we're talking about the creative class (read: hipsters), the G is definitely the new L.
But since we're extolling the virtues of the Q train, I felt compelled to post. It's by far my favorite train in the system. From DeKalb to Chinatown in ~10 minutes. Union Square in ~15. It's amazing.

I think this is brilliant!
I wish someone would do it for MY block.

This used to be one of my favorite places, but after a few misses with the service, I'm sort of afraid to bring new people here.
That said, the garden out back IS really spectacular. And the food has always been good.

Any one know if there is ground floor retail sloted for this building?
