Just an arena, one short office building (30 stories) for related business. Plus 20 story residences, including middle-income. No ugly Gehry post-atomic bomb designs (the emperor has no clothes). Enhance the neighborhood, not overwhelm it!

Somebody explain to me how constructing a new building creates jobs. Do new businesses sprout from the air? Isn't it just old businesses moving to new locations, and people are hired to replace now unemployed workers who decided/could not move to the business' new location?

Inside that high school building is the best middle school in District 15, I heard, but the elementary school down the block doesn't seem that hot.

Did they get government funding for this project?

Ugly building with glass the wrong shade of green; but if you're buying, it's the inside that counts. Maybe the interior design puts people off.

Are there enough retired-age people to buy all the new apartments in this City, the age group that is most suspicious of the quality of construction?

It seems that young families are still transient and are saving up for the wooden playset in the backyard of their suburban McMansion. These developments aren't attracting enough potentially permanent (20+ years) residents that give a sense of neighborhood and make Brooklyn, Brooklyn.

Perhaps the realtors should advertise to European companies to buy for their temporary US employees.

Conway and Strawberry are three blocks away already. A store with a range of good lawyer suits to backroom dress-casual that can compete with the nearby Macy's stock could work; most cheap versions of nice clothing in the small stores Downtown fall apart after first wearing.

However, we really need a Staples that's near a train station or BedBathBeyond.

Gehry is the emperor with no clothes. Overrated and applauded because he's different. Different is not enough. Undulations are a waste of potential useful space. Have to wear a hard hat when walking by and dodge the falling pieces. Please, almost anyone else but Gehry. As long as the stadium looks better than the detention centers-- sorry, I meant malls-- across the street, we'll be able to live with it.

Heard near Brooklyn Hospital, police car loudspeaker to two bikers likely coming home from Manhattan:

Police: Stay in the bike lane, stay in the bike lane. Stop at the red light.

(Bikers and police stop. Very few pedestrians cross, then quiet. First biker attempts to go over crosswalk line)

Police: You gotta stop at the red light.

(No more pedestrians. First biker puts feet back on pedals)

Police: Stay until light changes.

(light changes, all head to DeKalb)

@ennulater Corrections:

PS 372 is inclusive - mixed general and special education

PS 261 is in Boerum Hill, far from Bed Stuy

Everyone, read www.Insideschools.org reviews for schools in which you're interested.

@bohuma -- [Sigh] Not knowing anything about Jeffries' background, Bohuma, note that many people have names with "Islam heritage" origins but their families' religions are far from Islam. Parents may have liked the sound or meaning of the name. Don't start stirring the pot while looking for the meat; it could just be clear broth.

Gehry and his fans are the realization of the emperor with no clothes story. There is probably a great imaginative architect out there who does not bully, brown-nose or schmoozes and can design a beautiful arena/business/residential center. But talented people don't get hired by untalented people. The new designs are better, but these self-serving developers are turning Brooklyn into some nondescript mid-western college city.

The Toren is ugly. Driving/walking by Myrtle is scary; it appears as if the thing is going to transform into a robot and attack Downtown Brooklyn.

Never attracted me; looked like a boring deli from some college town -- safe food without creativity or adventure. I'd love a full Italian deli/hot pasta/salad bar place with a more earthy, rustic or ethnic decor. Boar's Head's deli was too bland-generic-American-city.

Disagree completely, katieb, 11217 and etson: The Toren looks like a vertical metal junk yard. Every time I drive down Myrtle I expect this ugly building to transform into an evil robot and destroy everyone.

Like many architects who get work today, the emperor has no clothes.
