the food is inconsistent, but usually it's degrees of 'good' we're talking about ... at its worst, it's still pretty good. the beans are outstanding.
my biggest problem with it is the seating. you can stand forever with your full tray in hand, waiting for seats to open up. people tend to sit forever after they're done eating, nursing their oversized jugs of beer. everyone is jockeying for seats, you have to ask people to move over, or scrunch together ... i find it stressful.
i think management needs to get involved in seating people.
I just had an armchair re-upholstered beautifully by Tania Kovalenko in Greenpoint. She has a large shop, lots of fabric, fairly priced ... phone number is 718-383-0792. She may have a website, I'm not sure.

A few weeks ago I ordered a takeout schwarma sandwich from these guys .. the cap from a squeeze bottle (probably for the hot sauce) apparently came loose and fell into my sandwich, and i bit down on it ... ouch ...
i understand this stuff happens. but when i brought the cap back to show it to them, they looked at me like i was crazy, and didn't seem to believe me. as if i was making it up ...
i doubt i'll go there again. which is a shame, because there's absolutely no decent takeout in fort greene.

I've always disliked 'theme' restaurants like Moutarde and Belleville that emerge from gut renovations fully formed as representations of the genre. I've never bought into the idea that you can create an authentic French bistro by simply making it look like one. When Moutarde opened I thought it was a Disney version of a French restaurant. Ditto Belleville.
I've eaten at both, however. The food is merely average.
Cocotte was always my idea of what a French restaurant outside of France should be. The focus was on re-creating classic country french food, not creating some Parisian theme park. And it's food was goooood. Hands down, the loss of Cocotte is the one that hurts the most ...

kosher style deli? it blows my mind that you can't get a katz's style hot pastrami sandwich, knish and dr. brown's black cherry in brownstone brooklyn ...

Once, attempting to kill time before a movie at the Pavilion on a rainy weekend day, I made the mistake of walking into Farrell's with a friend for a quick pop. I had the unmitigated gall to ask the bartender -- an ancient, nasty man, with nary a kind bone in his gnarled body -- what kind of scotch he had. Apoplectic, he sputtered "what do you mean 'what kind of scotch do i have,' I've got scotch scotch, what kind of scotch do you expect?" He wasn't being ironic .. and he spoke loud enough that a couple of regulars heard him and immediately turned their attention to us ... suddenly, an innocent attempt to purchase a drink became menacing.
Screw Farrell's .. another American Apparel would be preferable to its odious brand of local color and history ...

bagel hole rules, i couldn't agree more ... also, bake city bagels on avenue x (couple blocks west of ocean pkwy) also makes a similar small, crisp, very tasty bagel.

i'm a prospect heights resident who has spent very little time in bed stuy, but would like to check it out. what constitutes prime "bed stuy" these days? what subway stop?

Tofu on 7th is also decent ... tiny and odd inside, but the food is fresh, tasty, and they have impossibly fast delivery, at least as far as prospect heights.

I use the cleaners on the corner of waverly and greene, right next to the pizza place, diagonal from speakeasy ... tiny, seriously cluttered, and the dude seems angry ... but they get the job done, at a fair price ...
bubbleworks was sooo expensive ... no loss there ....
