Ah, it was just a Seinfeld reference. I think I do too many of those in my daily life.

Slope Farm:

It's ok to eat bacon if the pig is killed by the rabbi in a certain way.

BRG, I feel like I know you (or friends of friends, anyway...). Of course, there'd be a better chance to find us @ Muffin's than Benley's.
People on here don't realize that "Saturday Night Fever" is the neighborhood's holy grail/style guide.
Bridgeview is fine, but I always preferred Tiffany's.

You call it tacky, I call it Hometown, USA!

I Haz:

I'm an ex-pat Brooklynite, and have been out here in Columbus for about 4 years. I like to call it "A nice place to live, but I wouldn't want to visit here". It's pretty low-key, more cosmopolitan than you'd think, and quite affordable. The who place kind of revolves around Ohio State (50K+ students), which give us a good arts scene (Wexner Center, plus a movement to make Cols. the "indie arts capital of the world). Economy here is pretty recession-proff (unlike the rest of Ohio), since most folks either work for the University, the state government (we're the capital), insurance (Nationwide & others headquartered here, or retail (Limited Brands & DSW headquartered here).
I will say this: real estae in C-Bus is CHEAP. You can buy a 3bedroom house in Clintonville (closest thing here to Park Slope) for under $200K. Columbus was also voted most gay-friendly city in the Midwest, and #9 city for business by Black America Magazine. I don't fit into either of those categories, but I think it speaks to the diversity here, and (lack of) racial tension.
Restaurants aren't great, but they are getting better. Downtown needs work: not dangerous, just deserted after 5pm.
For more info, look up the following neighborhoods: Clintonville, German Village, Victorian Village, Grandview Heights, Bexley (technically suburbs).
Also, check columbusunderground.com , a cool website along the line of that Buffalo one...

Check out Columbus, Ohio...SERIOUSLY.

I used to live there. Nice, quiet, clean neighborhood. Area I was in was mostly Italian & Chinese (West streets). Quick trip to Coney, bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, etc...Choice of N & F trains was good, too...

What about Bushwick? It would tie-in nicely w/the brewing history of the area. A restaurant/beer garden could do well there, too...surely there's ample commercial space there to support such an enterprise, right?

Where I come from, it's called "Lace Curtain Irish", which means you've made a step up from "Shanty Irish".
Lace Curtains being used, of course, to cover up the mess behind the windows.
Luce, thanks for the addition to my vernacular! Now, I'm off to the Irish Riviera! (See The Times' Sunday Real Estate Section).

Sixyearandcounting ain't wrong.

That said, it's an ugly house.

I'm proud to see all of the attention being paid to my hometown. I'm not sure, but I think this house was rumoured to have belong to Steve Lawrence & Edye Gourmet at one time (no, I'm not kidding). Possibly Vincent Gardenia? My memory fails me.
There are some beautiful houses along 11th Avenue. This? Eh, not so much, but not all that uncommon for the area.

My band has played @ Freddy's, so we were responsible, in part, for some of the unpleasant noise.

I feel I MUST contribute here. Dyker Heights is lovely. Pretty much no crime. Very clean, good schools. Plentiful street parking, and only a $5 car service ride (we don't have cabs out here) to Bay Ridge for restaurants & bars.

Coming to America was set in Queens, but the aprtment Eddie & Arsenio lived in was actually in Williamsburg. (Hope Street, I believe, right off of Broadway).

I grew up across the overpass from Bay Ridge. It's a solid, middle-class neighborhood. Lots of bars, restaurants, good shopping. A decidedly low-key vibe. Safe area, whre you'll get more for your money than Park Slope. Cool? I don't know about that: it's still got the neighbor-hoody vibe with old ladies & their wheeled carts out on the avenue during the day, and younger people out at night, especially on the weekend. Lots of parks, too.

Love him or hate him, this place would be a lot more boring without The What.
