Interior window shutters available
Does anyone want some interior window shutters, or know a salvage place that will accept them? I have about 20, retrieved from a renovation down the block. One or two appear to be modern replacements, but most look vintage; painted white; various widths and heights. Came from a late-Italianate house in center Slope, the kind with parlor windows all the way to the floor. I want them out of my house. Free to someone who can reuse them. Leave contact info in the comments.

Ultimately Smith St. will end up with real estate brokerages, cell phone stores, and some chains. Enjoy it while it lasts, people.

The suit was not brought by anyone from Park Slope. The Times merely cited Park Slope by way of example.
As mentioned in the article, the suit was actually brought by a group called the "Citizens Emergency Committee to Preserve Preservation" whose website is at www.savelpc.org.

Nice article. You make passing reference to the role of the Armories in "domestic peacekeeping". However, according to the Encyclopedia of New York City, domestic peacekeeping was the *main* reason they were built:
"A great number of armories were built by the nineteenth century, largely in response to events that took place in New York City after the Civil War and to the fears of social unrest that they provoked among the middle and upper classes; these included increasing numbers of foreign immigrants (many of them unskilled laborers from eastern and southern Europe..."
In short, the armories were a kind of "Homeland Security Act" of the 19th c., aimed directly at immigrants and workers, who were susceptible to such foreign and dangerous ideas as socialism and anarchism. Armories were a form of state intimidation and control, and WE were the target.
