Cabinet spray finisher needed
I'm looking for recs for Brooklyn-based cabinet finishers. I want to spray finish some new kitchen cabinets. Anyone have any recs? They need to have their own shop because I don't want it done in my house. Thank you in advance!

Advice for a Freaked Out Apartment Seller
Help! After many wonderful years living in Brooklyn my husband got a new job and we have to relocate to Seattle. He left me here to sell the apartment and take care of our two young boys thinking we'd have the deal wrapped up and be out there by Christmas. Well, it hasn't quite turned out as we planned.
The broker recommended we price the apartment (a two bedroom walkup on Henry Street in Carroll Gardens) at $595K when it first went on the market almost two months ago. No takers.
After two more price cuts, we're down to $475K. The open houses are always very busy. But NO ONE IS BUYING. At this point, I'd consider any offers. But there aren't any. What should I do? The URL for the listing is http://www.bhsbrooklyn.com/detail.asp?id=960620
Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

Cost to Remove Asbestos
We are currently thinking about finishing the basement of our duplex brownstone condo to create a rec room and laundry. There is asbestos on the pipes. I've gotten a couple quotes and they all seem so high. There is about 250 linear feet and I've been quoted from $2,500-3,500 for the removal job. I know that the remving isn't the real job, it's the disposing. But still, it seems steep. Anyone have any experience and knowledge about how much this kind of work should cost? Much appreciated!

Can we start an online petition to landmark this building? I always saw it from the outside and thought how amazing it was in the middle of this industrial area between the Burg and Clinton Hill, next to the BQE. It would be a shame to have some developer knock it down. Especially that gorgeous chapel. (No I'm not a Catholic).

Thanks, Johnny. We're going for good it seems. With two young kids, I don't think we could afford to come back and have the space we'll need!

I just feel that you never know what shape a renter will keep it in. And we'll be so far away. I feel like I'd rather take less money now and rent it.

Thanks, rh. I can't hold the mortgage unfortunately. We need to buy a place ourselves. Incentives are a good idea...I'll mention the closing costs to the broker.

I would never bother getting a c of o changed when you have a 3 unit c of o. You never know if down the road you might want to rent out another unit. And there really is no reason to change it. The DoB only cares if you are adding an illegal apartment, not if you are underutilizing your property. So I wouldn't bother at all!

It's Carroll Gardens. I think the only reason they changed the name is because they were sick of my son and I constantly coming in and asking for donuts, which they haven't sold for years.

Did they rip off the soundtrack from Atonement for that site? Weird choice of music.

Really lovely. Do you mind sharing your contractor's name and number?

I got a really huge quote from Leinster and Pat Hogan. $3,500 to remove asbestos from some pipes in the basement and $3,000 to reinsulate them. I thought it was madness.
I'm looking for someone else and I'll post as I find out more.

Does anyone have an idea of how much asbestos removal would cost? According to http://accurateinspections.com/asbestosremoval.htm, the cost starts at $800. Does that sound about right for a brownstone basement? Also, is asbestos removal absolutely necessary -- either for health reasons or for legal reasons? It seems that we are all exposed to asbestos at some point due its widespread past use. Is there a minimum amount that is not harmful, or is any amount bad? Finally, I was thinking about getting a do-it-yourself home asbestos testing kit to do the test myself. Has anyone had any experience with these kits -- do they work? I found this kit online -- http://www.prolabinc.com/products.asp?kit=asbestos and it seems to be a reputable company that is affiliated with NEHA (The National Environmental Health Association) and ASHI (The American Society of Home Inspectors). Or would I be better off in getting a licensed professional home inspector to perform the test? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
