Oh gross, this is so sad. If they wanted to live in a white-box mcmansion they should have moved to Atlanta, I hear they have plenty.

Clinton Hillster wrote a review about Maggie Brown on December 15, 2008 12:46 PM
Maggie Brown's used to be one of my favorite places in the neighborhood. Then they changed the menu to something less delicious. The price went up and the food declined. They took the good stuff off the menu and the staff is evermore hurried (unless they are lounging at the bar) and inattentive and they also seem to collectively suffer from amnesia. A "medium" burger is always well-done. Almost always I hear "we were out of your side order" but nothing to replace.
Get it together Maggie Brown!

Every once in a while, i stop in and I always think, "why don't I come here more often?" Once, I took shelter inside the place while a Evelyn car was engulfed in flames across the street; the staff was quite pleasant and the smells were delicious.
Clinton Hillster wrote a review about Tillie's of Brooklyn on December 1, 2008 12:19 PM
I stopped going to Tillie's a couple of years ago, when there were suddenly other options. Perhaps Tillie's has changed their ways, which included unbelievable rude service, stale cakes and pastries, and foul tasting coffee. I would be interested in hearing other thoughts. Perhaps I'll give it a go again.
Clinton Hillster wrote a review about Chez Oskar on October 9, 2008 12:20 PM
As for whether or not they care if you linger, it depends on your server. I have had horrendous service more than once at Chez Oskar. On the other hand, the food is reasonable and usually delicious.
Clinton Hillster wrote a review about iCi on September 22, 2008 3:18 PM
I have loved iCi since I moved to the neighborhood about 4 years ago. Although the menu has changed somewhat, I have always had a fantastic meal and I have found it a great place to take visiting friends because I know we will not be disappointed. Unfortunately, there are only a few restaurants in the neighborhood that can meet that qualification.
Clinton Hillster wrote a review about Madiba on September 15, 2008 4:45 PM
The food is always high quality, but the service and the price often keep me away. The food is pricey, the drinks are even more outrageous, and generally (except for my last lucky visit) the service is terrible, rude, slow, forgetful, condescending...i could go on. It is one place in the neighborhood that i never take friends from outside the neighborhood, and never guests from out of town, it is just too unreliable.

Great burgers. Really nice people. The interior makes me feel ill.
Well, at least the cult...er commune...will have plenty of sugar cubes. Sweet model.

Thanks, bowl of dicks.
I Google searched, high and low, for any alumni affiliations. I think this guy got his credentials from Photoshop and Kinkos.

He is, of course, not listed on AIA NY.
Real winner. Does he really a registered Architect?

Oh know! Woe to Fort Greene, woe to Brooklyn!
Isn't the property owner ashamed? They are not even getting best value!! We need a community board who will stand up for SOMETHING. Good design perhaps?

Between the new Vandy bike lanes and the new DeKalb bike lanes, the area is really coming out of the bad old days of a car-driven society. The What, fake or not, truly needs to pick up an education somewhere. I honestly hope he or she is one of the crazed and frantic drivers who love to cut me off while riding my bike--you all are a dying breed.

Every area of the city should have an intake center. We should not allow manhattan to export their homeless.

on-site power generation is generally much more efficient than the grid. Usually the generators are running on natural gas, which produces far less harmful emissions, and since the generators are owned and operated by the developer, there is great incentive for them to fun efficiently. On-site power generation can deliver electricity at many times the efficiency of the grid (27% percent efficient, in the US).
Finally, why would brownstoner have any interest in shouting the benefits of an un-green developer across the street?

Wouldn't it be a dream, if the parking lot was developed, with retail frontage on fulton and vanderbuilt!

Hopefully some real investment on Fulton Street will encourage some more diversity of retail and with 650 new tenants, some real restaurants.

I stopped in for a glass of wine, and they don't have any yet...the woman who greeted me was very pleasant and told me wine would be coming in a month or so. Until then, bring your own...I like that.

You definitely haven't been paying attention...on the other hand, you may not have left Brooklyn in a long while, which is entirely understandable.

If this owner can't be a good neighbor, then the neighbors don't have to be good bad. Protests, signs, complaints, news media. Maybe the owner will back down. Who needs a car over there anyway. Kind of like that jerk at Cumberland and Dekalb who yells at people hanging too close to the fence protecting his TWO ugly SUVs.

Yessss!
I love new neighborhood bars. Our section of the border of Prospect Heights and Clinton Hill have been languishing with out a decent place to drink for too long.
Right now, I'm really into Noona as my neighborhood bar, but maybe the Kansas City gay bar will be my new place--I really like East Side Company Bar, it was there that Matty made me the most incredible whiskey cocktail I've ever had.

Dear Carol,
On a recent friday night, after a trip to Fairway, I decided to wander down to Columbia for some dinner. Yes, Alma was open, but I wasn't feelin' that place. But not a single other place was open, they had all closed their kitchens early, by 9:45, after walking up and down Columbia street twice, I decided just to drive over to Smith street, where I was able to find a delicious dinner, a cold beer, and other people.

Maybe Columbia Street is dead, because on any given Friday, you may think, "huh, perhaps I'll wander over there after work." Then, by the time you arrive, after a long B61 ride, all the kitchens have closed. While it might only be 9:15 or 9:30, even the greasy Chinese places are closing down. You know, its really not that far, but if restaurants and bars close down early, how can they expect to attract customers...after a trip like that, one bad experience is the end of those customers and all 10 of their best friends.

I'd love burger joint nearby, uncluttered by french bistro paraphernalia. Now, if only the burger joint was moving onto Fulton near Clinton!
More important than sprucing up the magazine shop, let's bring back the cries for a bookstore! I can think of a dozen empty or might-as-well-be-empty storefronts for books.
