no., they cant try a little harder. what money do you think gets this built? sorry but i'd rather see this built with my tax payer money than something beautiful like the taj mahal built with with diamonds encrusted if it means it will be cheaper and service a part of our world that needs help?

snappy why dont you just let your fro grow? i let mine!

i get pissy at african-american (black?) ladies who have issues with their hair.

i would trade hair with you in a heart beat!!!

if i let my hair grow out it would get all wavy and curly. and frizzy in the worst way. unless i let it grow out hardcore there is nothing to do with it, but african descendant ladies, a nice light fro on the head? oh my. i like it.

i hope what i said was not insensitive.

tho now that i think about it, Mo's hair let gone freely grown was scary...but i think that movie was racist in a sense. do you know the director?

like the thing is that my grandmother and cher are about the same age. but my grandmother looks old and gross and disgusting and cher looks young fabululous and thing. what do you think makes the difference? oh yeah

$$$

$$$ = soooooo bad for so many people. if everyone had money we'd be a pretty hot Planet. but because 95% of people on this planet called Earth live in POVERTY that wont happen.

the next time you think about how you cant afford a brownstone in X neighborhood versus Y neighborhood, think that damn... most of the world is really living in actual shacks with no running water. it's hard for us to think about because we have everything, including ghetto white trash me, just think... i dont know why im thinking about this right now, probably because it's almost thanksgiving and gack,... the holidays are very suckitude for people when you dont know how to spend them.

i might bake a turkey on my roof.

snappy bite your tongue saying cher and madonna are of the same breed.

oh wait, they are... both latch onto music genres that are popular..

oh wait... ummmm... madonna latches onto them YEARS after they are no longer relevant and claims them their own... CHER does it because she likes to experience the genres and sing that way. i love cher, every 10 years since the 60s she's sang differently. 60s pop/soul, 70s, 80s metal lite, 90s rock, 00's techno.. she never claimed to start the trend, she just wanted to hear herself and let her fans hear her.

madonna on the other hand is a narcissistic person who claims to START music trends :-/ she is always like 3-5 years behind the times, but because she has a huuuuge fanbase she sells lots of music. she's a phony.

in the year 3597 if i were to do an archealogical dig for giant mummified phonies, i'd bring back Madonna.

bxgirl, what do you mean when you say native american is NOT pc. of course it is! american indians is the not pc version. i like that term. they ARE american indians. until america was colonized it wasnt called america anyway, and verbology is verbology. you call something it, that is what it is until smoeone changes it.

tho if i hear another person talk about someone from India (the country) and say "dot indian, not feather" i will shoot a bow and arrow into my left asscheek. that joke aint funny anymore.

ENY LOL thank you! my grandmother was a HUUUUUGE whitney fan. (i know wtf?) she asked in high school once, dont you have any whitney houston? i was like no, sorry. (i did however go out and buy her a whitney houston single... i think it was the lame one from that movie that was really big).

she HATED cher. called her a sl*t
she HATED madonna. called her a sl*t
(the only gay thing about me was that i like cher!)

she HAAAAAAAAAATED Dolly Parton because my grandfather was fixated with her!!! called her a sl*t and a c*nt. like out of no where. the tv would be on with the news and my grandmother would be like dolly parton is a SL*t!!!! and me and my grandfather would look at each other like okaaaaaaaaaay she is just crazy.

ugh i miss my grandfather. he was the only person in my family who i ever shared liking similar things with!

snappy!!! re: bad singers, madonna, etc...

i hate madonna and the people who built a cultural shrine around her, but i often DO like people who sing badly versus people who supposedly 'can sing'. maybe it's cuz im like 75 % deaf in my right ear and like dumb stuff, but i prefer bad singers who are truthful to their persnoality than phonies who have perfect voices who dont sing from the soul. not saying beyonce is like that, ive never found her that amazing or anything. give me left eye (rip girl) over beyonce any day.

for what it's worth, that class i was talking about our final oral presentation was to RAP something. hahhaha. 1.) imagine being terrified to talk in front of a class and then 2.) imagine being white and having to rap in front of a class that isnt a bunch of white people. hahahhaha. i swear to hell that made me stronger than any other college class i ever had. i dont even remember the actual experience of it, other than a teacher MAKING us get out of our comfort zone. i did get an A tho :) (but i think everyone got one)

bxgirl, cuz i like the word Indian :) so i like saying american indians versus native americans. also native americans is veeeeeeeery disingenuous... cuz you KNOW there were people here before them right? the textbooks dont tell you that. who/what was here i have no clue! but there were animals and stuff so they are more native american really. also India is one of my fav. countries and if i was ever to visit somewhere it would be India. and also being called American Indian seems to have more... i dont know, cultural history than say Native American (the pc term). things change tho, who knows, it's how i see it. as long as it's not coming from hate, i dont think it matters. it's like what do we call races now in 2009? we have white people, black people, hispanic people, asians, ? white... black.. wtf? suonds stupid to me. hispanic covers so much that mexicans are even called that. asian is so broad sounding and the one term that sounds actually okay.

i had a class before college, in college, where a bunch of us (i was one of the only few white people in the entire program) where we all had to sit around and throw racial slurs at each other. it was insane. but at the same time it wasnt insane at all, it was awesome because you never know what people think about what they are being called versus what people are saying or expressing based on what they percieve. so on that note i say VIVA LA ( i hate the french btw) American Indians! :)

countdown til someone calls me ignorant. :-/

i dont normally call people out, but steveib is annoying me more than any other poster on the whole internetz has in a while. while 11217's post about preserving the history of america's architecture was kinda, eh, i wont say... how is bringing up the bad parts of our history even f'ing relevant? there has never been a culture of peoples that hasnt had a checkered past and done some wrong stuff. people apparnetly love old architecture (i do too duh), how does preserving that part of our GOOD past have any relevance to the slaugher of american indians (sorry i refuse to say native americans)? you are very trollish in the sense that you seem to be coming after certain people here and your arguments arent even interesting.

ok i need to get out soon!

BENSON! i just read thru this OT just now... you met al gore. i met al gore too!!! i am pretty sure i told this story here before, but a few years ago (after the election and after his documentary i think), he came into my office building and got off on the wrong floor! he walsk in and he's like hello! im like uh hello. he had like 4 guys with him flanked on both sides. he said im here for the meeting. i was like uh what meeting? he then said QUOTE "you know who i am right?" the whole office was watching in like a wtf mood.. i said um who are you here to see? it wasnt for anyone in my office and i totally giggled and laughed at him when we shook hands and everyone in the office was laughing too. definitely a funny office day. kinda sucks al gore is like the only famous person i ever got to shake hands with. (the funny thing was that he put out his hand and it took me like a good few LONG seconds to decide to shake it or not)

omf! crackheads get balconies now?!

just kidding, this is a good thing. i think they should leave the cornered balconies open space and now window it.. having an open space balcony would actually be psychologically beneficial for people in supportive housing, versus having to look out thru thick paned glass reminiscent of hospitals, jails, and rehabs.

how is the bar scene down there? im just curious because there seem to be sooo many bars opening up all over in this economy, just wondering how many bars a neighborhood can sustain and for the bars to do well? drinking never seems to cease in a bad economy tho i guess so maybe it's one of the few viable businesses that can open?

still waiting for someone to open up a cheap 40 ounce bar! even if they charged 5 bux for a 40 ounce, that would be great!! regular beer bottles are too tiny they need to supersize that sh*t

also, benson saying this board raises his blood pressure is just that he gets a visceral reaction to what people say here. it raises my blood pressure too!!! but i think that's why i like it. if i wanted to be calm and mellow and just exist i'd go join and post on the My Little Pony fansite or something.

i think a lot of you who claim to like "diversity" are phonies. you see diversity only as a mixed group of race and religion, but never realize that true diversity is being around and interacting with people who have differing opinions and worldviews...

that said, what the f am i doing here on my DAY OFF!!!

Posted by: Butterfly at November 20, 2009 1:37 PM in response to New Cafe for The Heights

wow. so benson had a differing opinion than the majority and he gets dog piled :-/ i mean i know it's human nature and all to trounce on smoeone with a different opinion and tell them if they arent in complete agreeance with the majority they "should just leave" but if you step back a second and think about the you should just leave sentiment you'd realize just how farked up that is to say.

that said, coffee cafes and wine bars are the new check cashing places and nail shops. which is funny but sad at the same time. and i hope someday, hopefully soon, a new group of people will be all like omg those places are SOOOOOO ghetto and tacky and shouldnt be in our neighborhood, so the carbon monoxide bars and metal head plate shops can move in.

1.) this free months rent bullcrap HAS to stop. there should be a law against it.

2.) the prices.. 2400 for a ONE bedroom. okay.. it could work for a regular couple... but a single solo person, the average one in nyc, that would even POSSIBLY want to live here cannot afford 2400 a month, sorry, and if they could they wouldnt be living in f'ing greenpoint.

3.) jacked up prices because of "amenities". BARF. sorry, but if i want to go to a gym i'd join one, if i wanted to go swimming id go find a pool or the ocean, if i wanted a yoga room i'd go take a yoga class, if i wanna see a movie, um ill go to the movies, f*ck your stupid screening room and you just know all that will be playing is Finding Nemo anyway... cuz you know, those are the ways you meet people and interact with people... the crux of nyc living, no? if you want everything including in your own building where you dont have to leave to do anything, why not just move to a f'ing gated community somewhere?

i would LOVE a 5 hour a week job part time washing dishes, im pretty good at it.. but oh hells no, i'd never be hired :-/ oh well, maybe they think id roll my eyes too much.
