If I remember correctly...after G&T closed it became a TGIF for a short while. So were THEY in line with the landmarks? I would be suprised if they were.Or did the landmark take effect afterwards? Whatever opens...Best of luck to them.

I hope the victim is ok. WOW ! This thread is C-R-A-Z-Y with some of these comments. It's a strange & hostile world we live in. Take williamsburgguy's comment about the cops gun going off...or FGCHill backing her up. Some scary stuff ! Seems like Bklyn is fulla' thugs, eh ? ps...i like that word...ilk.

I beleve I remember this happening in midtown Manhattan on the west side when Trump was building a hi rise. I think the hi rise that he was building in front of sued him but I don't remember the outcome.

BklynPEZ wrote a review about Tillie's of Brooklyn on December 1, 2008 9:33 PM

I never was much of a coffee house person but I went with my frend...she stopped going after twice seeing large water bugs on the counter.
Also it was one of the first "new wave " of places BUT dont forget that way before Tillies was an idea, there was Cellars, Chinos, Joes on Waverly as well as the Pizza places & diners. So I also wouldnt exactly call Tillies a pioneer. One of the old new places is Ruthies Southern cooking near Ashland Place...Great food. And there always was Juniors.
So in all fairness, I havn't been to Tillies in years. It looks like a nice, relaxing place to hang.

Still doesn't beat Ground Zero !

I think it is a nice design BUT for a historic district , this aint historic. It changes the overall look & feel to ... windows. It goes from Mom & Pop store to National Corp. Bank look. Not to mention it being a different Style of architecture design from the original as well as the surrounding buildings.

If I could ever afford $3,200,000. for a place to live I surely would want a kitchen that I could turn around in let alone maybe sit down to drink my tea.

It seems a good idea to me... but as with everything it boils down to $$$. I wasn't able to find any details on the Pratt students project. But I'll bet it is just that, a school project. So I hope someone involved has the savy to help it become a reality.
Also I noticed that here Brownstoner states, "Pratt Institute architect Brent Porter and his students have designed a plan for Admiral's Row". But in the Brooklyn Eagle linked article ...

http://www.brooklyneagle.com/categories/category.php?category_id=27&id=18939

“We’re trying to please, I think, everyone, as much as possible,” said Diane Smith, a student in Professor Zehra Kuz’ architectural design class."
Brooklyn Eagle goes on to say Prof. Brent Porter is also Chairman Of the Clinton Hill Society of Landmarks Comm.

So time will tell. I do hope History is remembered.

Would be nice if I could spend 2.4 MILLION but I can't. Evin if I could I would want more for my buck. It is 2 blocks from the G train or 8 from the C but if I could afford 2.4 I don't think I would be ridin the rails. It is a nice 'hood. And it's Washington Avenue not Street as sam called it. Washington Street is in Dumbo. All the luck to them.
