By the time this storefront is finished, everyone's pet will have died of natural causes! Work here has been moving about as efficiently as a state agencym.

MM, the NY Post writer obviously meant that a high percentage of the student body falls within the poverty level. And, yes, Bed-Stuy still has a lot of poverty. Even you can admit that, so stop with the self-righteousness for once.

Benson, you are expecting too much from this crowd.
This will be worthless once AY is built...

Good going frsq and be rude. You actually silenced bxgrl. You always know you've won a debate when the other side backs down while calling you names. Good job!
I find this hilarious. In a few weeks, the decison will come back in favor of FCR and idiot Goldstein will finally be gone from our neighborhood. Too bad it took so long.
Not that anyone should be worried about him. He and his family are quite wealthy and can easily eat the financial loss. In fact, his wealth is what has afforded him the luxury of waging this fight. Otherwise, he would have accepted Ratner's offer years ago and moved upstate where he belongs.

I used to frequent the Landmark in the early 90s. The old broad was a superb**** who knew asbolutely nothing about operating a business. Still, we had some good times there, especially one New Years Eve.
I agree fully with frsq. One day this POS is going to collapse and all of the morons who could have helped prevent it will be the first in line to shriek and froth.

Tara, that's how Tish operates. When it comes to anyone classified as "oppressed" she blames society and nothing else. She is not capable of rational thought in those instances.

Again, Franklin is his best best. An upscale restaurant on Nostrand might attract a few yuppie types, but it wouldn't turn the profit that a Franklin Avenue location would. Maybe in a decade or so, but not at present.
Posted by: Big Jugs at November 11, 2009 5:20 PM in response to Mamary: Crown Heights, Greenpoint Ripe for the Picking
MM, I think it'd happen on Franklin sooner than Nostrand. Nostrand is still too much of a stretch for the type of restaurant that he typically opens.

The TLC might surprise you. About 10 years ago, I reported an asshole cab driver and they actually fined him $500 and suspended his license until he contacted them (he was a "no show" at the hearing). As long as you're willing to go in and testify, you probably have a good chance of winning.

Only a moron would think this locaton is bad. Right around the corner from Vanderbilt, where a new restaurant or bar opens each week. The basketball games getting "enthusiastic"? Talk about coded language!

Babs, you are a moron. The Unity Plan has no funding and corey is correct in saying that if it were ever attempted, the same DDDB zealots would protest it out of existence. Rest assured all, AY will happen, and soon.

I, too, read the DDDB press release and found it to be the most unhinged, insane rambling to date, no small feat when you're dealing with Daniel Goldstein. He and his cronies have always been desperate, but this release is in a category all its own. I got a huge belly laugh out of the phrase "major court challenge".
This deal conclusively eradicates any financial problems for the project and in a few short months, the eminent domain case will also be history. Dan, pack your family and move upstate (where you probably already live).

DDDb is purely reactionary and hates everything just for the sake of it. Even if Ratner agreed to build the UNITY plan, DDDB would still bitch and moan. There is simply no pleasing them, ever.

I live in Letitia James's district and can assure you all that she is just as lazy as Al Vann. Like many politicians, she's fond of showing up to garner attention, but her sense of reality is seriously lacking and her list of genuine accomplishments short. If she were given stimulus money, she'd surely piss it away on some rinky dink local agency or daycare center that is at half occupancy. She's all show and no substance and you can bet your life that any efforts on her part will do absolutely nothing to address the problem raised in this thread. Her biggest problem is that she has poor skills when it comes to building bridges with influential people. Her combative approach to any and everything ultimately alienates those who could help her get things done. That is why she has been a failure and why, for example, her advocacy will not be able to stop the intake center from being moved to the armory.

So, instead of owning 88% of the land, FCR owns about 85%. Thanks, OCD Oder, for another job well-done. Have you considered what you'll do once this is built? Talk about empty nest syndrome...

Yet another Meier unit that makes this list. I'm still confused, as so many on this board have insisted that this building is a failure...

I always find these threads amusing. So many people claim to care for the poor, working class, etc. and pontificate about what landlords and property owners should do, but these same people, many of whom own property themselves, surely rent units in their buildings at the market rate and would never accept a section 8 voucher. Do as I say and not...

Another long-winded, poorly-written "column" by blogger Norman "OCD" Oder. I chuckled at the insinuation that these anti-AY types offer "proof". In fact, DDDB, No land grab and ay report do nothing but cross-reference one another. On any given day, 50 to 60 percent of the posts are simply links to the ay report, which is the biased ramblings of a guy who probably hasn't been laid in the past 10 years.

Even if this plan were viable, it'd never see the light of day. The MTA can't even finish the 2nd Avenue subway line after several decades, so how could they ever finish this? Bob Diamond has been fantasizing about this for years now. Silly.

Crown Heights is still dominated by dollar stores, take out joints, nail salons, etc. The only renaissance in Crown Heights exists in the minds of those like Montrose Morris, who want the value of their property to increase. That is the main reason he/she opposes the armory/homeless project.
