Meeker Avenue Flea Market Sucked

I happened to be walking by that new flea market in Williamsburg called the Meeker Avenue Flea Market so I decided to check it out. What a joke. It was literally a bunch of tube socks and toothpaste and a someone selling some gross-looking health sandwiches. A total waste of time.

I'm glad to see this. Price cuts are key, but I think people are also realizing that the park is really going to happen and be amazing.

Nice idea but a tough sell in this climate. I hate to see organized religion carry the day though--they get enough breaks as it is.

Eh, why not give the guy some credit. He's clearly trying to do something fun and interesting. And a 1br shared by a couple is pretty affordable at $825 per person.

Entitlement? To what? Newcomers get accused of being "entitled" if they want crime lowered, the streets beautified, etc. What's so bad about that? I would have thought everyone wanted those things. Obviously there are some culture clashes--like loud music on stoops at night where, at risk of oversimplifying things, the old and new may part ways, but, come on, new people are not moving in looking to push out or disrespect the people that are already there. it's paranoia.

Can't say enough. Incredible food, fairly priced, great vibe. Run don't walk...

Bunch of haters...Give this guy a chance. I think he sounds very thoughtful.

mckenzie, this is one small piece of the park. sometimes it seems like some people just like to knock the park, like they want it to fail. i just don't get it. this will be great for brooklyn. we should all be hoping it succeeds.

One of my favorites. Still don't really get the green dip they start you off with, but otherwise I can't recommend it enough.

Looks like a good turnout. I couldn't make it this weekend but will definitely come by this Saturday.

Yes, Brownstoner, this risks giving the impression that fires happen all the time in Brklyn Heights; I am offended that you would print this without comprehensive context of how many other fires happened around the borough in the past year. You are printing this to create fear and generate hits to your website!

I don't know, Sam. I bet if you asked the store and restaurant owners in Dumbo they'd tell you that more density is precisely what the neighborhood needs. You're going to see a lot of these places closing in the coming months.

it's okay. food is not as good as you want it to be given how "authentic" the place feels, but satisfactory for its price. i usually get the pork with rice and beans. probably been 10 times and only had an upset stomach once.

$779K

Maybe that was a bold assumption, (and this will betray my position of privilege so bombs away) but I don't know anyone with kids in Brooklyn who doesn't have a car--and use it frequently. In my experience the people who are quick to tell you to just take the subway have not done it with a couple of small children in tow.

Given the size, I'm guessing there will be some kind of wholesale side to the business. Friggin' great for the neighborhood. And if any Brooklynites will be able to buy flowers during the recession/depression, it'll be Dumbo-ites.

I get why people would buy at Northside Piers or the Edge, but Schaefer Landing just doesn't do it for me. I feel sorry for that older lady in the Times article though.

You'd have to be insane to buy a house in East NewYork right now. A bank would also have to be insane to lend on a house there.

I've only eaten here a couple of times--and not for a while--but I remember it being quite good and quite reasonably priced. it's small, though, so sometimes hard to get a seat.

I'm a little biased, but I think Atlantic corridor and surrounding blocks are only going to keep getting better and better. It's already past the tipping point for destination boutique shopping.
