Shooting - Monroe & Nostratd, Bed-Stuy
I have to admit, a murder 30 feet from my apartment five days after I move in is pretty disconcerting.
Are we allowed to report shootings on the Brownstoner?

Painter and Landscaper Needed
Remember me? I found a place that took my three dogs (with a 2.5 month deposit, just for them). I will be among you Brooklynites soon! I'm very excited.
I would like to paint my rental, and I also need someone to come clear out the massively over-grown backyard. Craigslist is making my head spin.
Do you have suggestions for me?

I Have a Problem Finding an Apartment... MY DOGS!
I can't seem to find an apartment that will work. Am I asking too much? I'm not sure. here is the situation:
We're 26, married, no kids. HHI is $90,000 per year, so we would like a rental of $2000 or less.
We MUST HAVE:
washer/dryer in unit
an exclusive, fenced-in/walled off backyard (the bigger the better)
one or more bedrooms
a first-floor apartment
an apartment in: western Williamsburg, Downtown Brooklyn, DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Red Hook, Gowanas, Boreum Hill, Park Slope, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill and maybe lower, western Greenpoint.
We would love to have:
a "busy" neighborhood
easy parking
really close access to a subway
We have three wonderfully trained and housebroken dogs with no plans on getting rid of them.
Am I never going to find what I need?

They're not permanent? Oh thank god.

Weird. The NY Sun DOES have it listed as Quincy. I'll ask my husband, he's one of the online media staff at the Sun.

For the love! Why would I be a troll using my real name, with my real, four-year old blog in my profile, if I was a troll? Furthermore, and more to the point, why would I make something up that you can verify is true? Do people actually do that to the extent that it would be "likely"?
I believe it was drug related, but I'm not sure; I'm going by what the neighbors said. There are a lot of drugs in the nabe, which sucks.

it wasn't; they haven't been to Brooklyn yet. I'll take them there and then never take them back to our old house, and I'm not ready to do that yet. We'll move in two weeks.
Thanks for the heads up! I'll make sure not to be one of those dog walkers that gives dog owners a bad name.

We moved to Bed-Stuy. I was dead set against it, but it's not as bad as I heard it was. I really love the neighborhood, and everyone seems to be receiving us warmly.
I didn't think to ask my LL for a recommendation. Thanks for the heads up!

there is no way in hell i'd buy a house without one.
i just bought my GRANDMOTHER'S house and i had a home inspection. I lived there for several years of my life and have no reason to believe that my grandma would deceive me, but a home inspection showed things that even she had no idea was wrong.
it is so, so worth it.

in the unlikely event it fell during a storm, it would be considered an act of God, and you would not be liable.

Guys, thanks for all the advice. (Sarcastic people, get a life!)
I had NO CLUE that a washer/dryer was asking a lot; I really thought the dogs were my biggest problem. I'll check out some local churches and small newspapers.
I also have never heard of laundry services!
Aggiemare, you've given me hope!

Where would they offer valet parking?!
I currently own in Connecticut and know nothing of Brooklyn's rental market; I'm going mostly by what others have told me and what I've seen online.
Thanks for the ideas; we might end up looking farther out now. (Even, um, in New Jersey)

Try Housebroken - info@housebrokenny.com. They are one of the few services that goes as far as Crown Heights, so they may also cover Bed Stuy. They are pretty flexible and so far we really like them. We couldn't believe how hard it was to find a walker in Crown Heights - good luck!

Not sure if she serves Bed Stuy, but she seems flexible and open. She and Danny are terrific.

Eduardo Sanchez has done lots of painting and minor repairs (and one fairly big remodel) for me. Always does a great job and is a joy to work with. His number is 347-489-1605. You can also call me for more info on his work. Katherine 917-837-9613.

OT: has anyone used dina @ pawsitivelyperfectonline recently? she took care of our cats a few weeks ago when my husband and I were out of town.
we've tried contacting her to get our keys back and a week later we've had no response. she seemed super reliable so it's a bit of a mystery to us... you can email me at pesch79 at gmail dot com

Man, if there was ever a case of "Don't tread on me." this is it.
My friend and i split a bottle of champagne on my front stoop area and she was worried about it. I told her the cops should be more worried about the crack dealers down the street, and so they were. A foot patrol went by and merely nodded at me. I drunkenly waved back.
