What you have is not a "big" job. A $75,000 kitchen is a "big" job. What you have there is a "pain in the ass" job in the minds of contractors, something they don't want to deal with. Most cabinet makers/ woodworkers won't want to deal with your job because its much easier to build something from scratch than to restore/ retrofit newly built shutters. There are too many things that can go wrong.

ANNIE IS A SWEETHEART AND HEIGHTS DOES AMAZING WORK! THEY ARE AMONG THE MOST SKILLED WORDWORKERS IN THE ENTIRE CITY.

Does anyone understand that there are many slopers with an 'I'm the center of the universe' mentality? There is a growing perception of them as whiny, nosy, self righteous and demanding. Hmmm- wonder why?

i am the original "righteous and whiny" poster, and here's the addendum, Jessica. i think you might find it disappointing, given your strongly positive view of Heights Woodworking, Annie in particular.

I got 5 estimates and it took me that many weeks to round everyone up, get them here, and get estimates back.

Jessica, i hate to burst your bubble about Heights Woodworking, or anyones' for that matter, but this was among the bigger residential jobs Amor had seen, or so he said when he was here, but he NEVER came back to me with even an estimate!
This is going to turn out to be a $75K job for doors, shutters, floors, built-ins and kitchen cabinets.

Incredibly unprofessional.

You can't say i didn't give the guy a chance. I even called three times to see if he was going to give an estimate, and Annie said he would and really wanted to do the job, but he never did.

If Amor can't be bothered to even give an estimate, then don't waste people's time by coming by for an estimate. Also, other, more skilled craftsmen (as defined by references that have worked with both in professional settings), were more professional, gave estimates, and were not so hard to track down.

This has nothing to do with me being self-righteous or whiny. This is a bulletin board where people are encouraged to share their experiences with renovations, and the people with whom they have those experiences. I had a bad experience with Heights Woodworking, and I'm sharing it.

GN Woodwork is a great small woodworking company, located on 6th street and 3rd ave in Brooklyn. These guys can do anything! They can make or restore interior and exterior doors/door frames, make bookshelves, libraries, closets, shutters...the list goes on.
They are very small so they don't advertise, but get their business from word of mouth.
I just looked up their info...

I highly recommend them! They do great work!

I also had problems with several woodworking companies. I had a mantle and shutters I needed stripped, and stained. I was given the number of Complete Woodworking. The work was excellent . I highly recommend them. 646-221-1762.
