Move to Stuyvesant Heights?
My husband and I are considering a move to Stuyvesant Heights from South Slope. We have a three month old daughter and are interested in learning more about resources (i.e. playgroups, etc.) for children--can anyone share their experience?
Thanks...

we love them too -- we go to the boerum hill location and have had a fantastic experience thus far.

Woo-hoo!

We live more or less across the street from these units. Used to be Corcoran. The building is really really ugly (no offense!) and 20th street is not pleasant. We are happy renters, but would not buy on this street due to the fact that it's a two-way truck route.

Thanks for all of your comments--always stressful to consider a move, especially when you're a new parent. We are hoping to move to the neighborhood as renters with the objective of buying over the next couple of years.

Union Market is lovely but take it from me you DO NOT want to get in the habit of stopping in on a regular basis. It is absurdly expensive and we over use it because it's open until 9. In looking for ways to cut back our monthly expenses--two words: "Union Market."

We used flatrate two times and felt that they were very professional

Used Flat Rate for two recent moves and they were very good - professional, on time, careful with our stuff, no hidden charges.

We used Sterling Moving and Storage. Not the cheapest in town, but worth every cent. They were meticulous, and prompt. They packed up the old apartment, put everything into storage for a few weeks, and delivered to the new place. Not a scratch or a smudge on anything, nothing missing, and all done neatly. Very happy with them.

movers not shakers did a fine job for me. not a single thing broken or scratched.
my only recommendation is that (if you have a lot of stuff--full closets, etc) have them come down and do an on-site estimate.
they opted not to do it in my case and they grossly underestimated my move. it worked for me in that they honored the lower price, but the move took much longer than i expected and that was kinda stressful.
i'd also recommend that whoever you use, in addition to your valuables, you pack a weekend bag/box with clothes, toiletries, and even some food items. take it with you personally or at the very least put it on the truck last and in a very conspicuous box. chances are you'll be very happy you did.

I have used Shleppers twice now and had a wonderful experience each time, most recently to move out, store my furniture for a month, and then move it all back in for a renovation. They have been on time or early each time, completely professional and hard-working, and completely upfront about costs (the first move some years ago actually came in below the estimate). They were the best, most reliable part of my renovation. And they were almost half the price I was quoted from Flat Rate.

R-Way is a great family run moving company. They aren't particularly cheap, but they will stick to their estimate. They've moved everyone in my family multiple times. I one time I used someone else, I regretted it.

We were very pleased with Rainbow Movers for our last move. I would never use Movers not Shakers again (we used them three times total, the third time was a nightmare).

I posted about them before, but I've used Applause Moving twice now and was very satisfied.

We used the super movers (http://www.thesupermovers.com/live/) just two weeks ago and they were fantastic. All of our stuff made it in perfect condition and, perhaps most importantly during the hell that is moving, they were upbeat and fun.
